Several years ago, when talking about Shanghainese, most fellow-countrymen held a low opinion. In their eyes, being shrewd, mean and narrow-minded is typical of Shanghainese. Shanghainese are penny wise, but pound foolish. However, in recent years, the image of Shanghainese has undergone a gradual change. One of my friends who come from Sichuan told me that after nearly 2 years' study here, his stereotype of Shanghainese has been totally broken. We now have another reason to love Shanghai and Reeb Beer is not the only choice.
As we all know, the World Expo is a gala on which not only scientific achievements and new inventions are displayed, but also are the culture and the city spirit of the host city. As a sports fan, I'd like to illustrate the lovely Shanghainese by introducing three Shanghai sports stars.
Yao Ming represents the height of Shanghainese. Here by height, I don't mean he is tall only, what I emphasize is his lofty sentiments. Yao Ming receives great acclamation because of his modesty, humor and amiable disposition, which displays to the world Shanghai's fine qualities. Shanghainese are now more tolerate to accept different cultural element, thus treating others with modesty and equality. Yao Ming's another asset is patriotism. Despite persistent voices that he should stay in the United States to play in the summer league, he came back to China every summer at the summons of the Chinese National Basketball Team. In 2003 when SARS was indulging in willful persecution throughout China, Yao returned regardless of the danger. It is none other but his patriotism that makes Yao Ming a national idol.
The speed of Shanghainese is presented by Liu Xiang in the Olympic Games in Athens. Following Liu Xiang, Shanghainese have worked wonders one after another in many aspects with great speed. The Oriental Pearl Television Tower and Jinmao Tower have been standing steadfastly and become the emblem of Shanghai. With the collaborate effort of all Shanghainese, Shanghai exceeds other cities and has become a fast-developing city. With such a high speed, Shanghai, no wonder, is finding its way back to a charming metropolis in the Far East.
The wisdom of Shanghainese is presented by Chang Hao. The wisdom and creativity of Shanghainese have infused new life into Shanghai, making Shanghai one of the most promising markets to attract foreign investment, as a result of which over 300 of the Fortune Global 500 have entered Shanghai.
Shanghai is one of the most cities with developed economy due to this many people come to the town to find work. During 1983 and 2000 years the number of migrant workers increased from 0.5 million people to 3.87 million people. A large percentage of migrant workers work on manufacturing (25.8%). 19.6% and 13.9% people earn money on construction and trade, respectively. The United States and China are two very large countries that have cultures that are well known throughout the world. There are many differences between the United States and China, but there are many contributing factors that shape the cultures of these two countries. Language is universal, but there are different meanings and sounds, which vary from one culture to another. In China, citizens speak many languages, but about 94% speak the Chinese language. The difference in dialects was overcome by the written word and eventually a version of Mandrin became the “official speech” (The Cambridge Illustrated History of China, 1996, p.304).
Tianjin, as known as one of the four cities administered directly by central government of China, is becoming a modern metropolis in the north costal area of China. However, Tianjin dialect, being unique and unaffected by any of other neighbor dialects, is often regarded as a cultural thing. I am going to talk about my experiences as a Tianjiner. Furthermore, several opinions and reviews are provided from my point of view.

For those new to Shanghai, what attract them most may be the dazzling neon lights, stylish buildings, great variety of commodities or delicious snacks. The Olympic Games plays a significant role in the world. The relationship between it and host countries is important to investigate for comprehending cultural studies. According to Xu and Kirby (2008), the Olympic Games has a considerable impact on the expression of national identity. For example, London applied this approach to promote its national identity. This can be discovered from the BBC video called James Bond escorts The Queen to the opening ceremony in 2012 (2012): an amiable identity is perceived by the audience through presenting corgi at Buckingham Palace. Moreover, China is no exception. There is an image about the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympics, it shows a spectacular drumming performance. In addition, an article about
China's development is praised by the whole world. Its developments are not only in the economic aspect, but as well in its foreign affairs. Compared with other developed countries, China is a relatively young country. It began constructing itself in 1949. After 30 years of growth, company ownership had experienced unprecedented changes. Entirely, non-state-owned companies can now be more involved in sectors that used to be monopolized by state-owned companies.
It is the year 2004, and everyone who is anyone in the world of athletics is headed to Athens, Greece. To some people Athens is just an ancient city where the myths of Hercules and Zeus were originated, but this year, it's not just an ancient city, it's a reunion of where sports began. Even thought they won't be played in the nude it will still be considered a reunion. That's right; the Olympics are headed back to their hometown of Athens, or at least it's close enough. However, looking back on the years, both modern and ancient, there has been quite a change in our Olympic events.
