My observation and interview of the position of a security monitor for the organization veterans on the rise provided me with extensive information on the duties and responsibilities of this job. The Job of a security monitor for an organization like veterans on the rise requires knowledge of modern computer technology, the ability to communicate effectively to the residents and staff, and the skills to monitor the proper function of the program and the safety of the veterans. The top priorities in this position are ensuring the protection of property, the safety of staff and residents, and the cleanliness of the facility. The beginning of a monitors day usually starts with signing in via email and in a sign in book to document the fact that the monitor has successfully arrived to the job on time and is ready to work. Then the monitor reads the log book to determine …show more content…
which residents are already out and which residents are currently in the facility at the time. Shortly after reading the log book, the monitor has to check and respond to all emails to find out about any new veterans that they may be receiving that day or to be able to confront and help with any other issues that may have come up with the residents, Such as not properly signing the log book, etc. The monitor then leaves the office and walks the perimeter of the facility In order to conduct daily facility/room inspections.
If the monitor sees anything of concern while checking the resident’s room or a resident is not present, the monitor must document this and also inform the site manager immediately of any house concerns. Once any house concerns are reported and the initial room inspections are over, the monitor will return to the office to complete any required shift paperwork. Throughout the rest of the security monitors shift they are required to conduct room checks every hour while also maintaining the cleanliness of the facility with general maintenance such as, sweeping and mopping common areas. If there is a fire drill scheduled for the day the security monitor is responsible for conducting that and making sure that residents practice exiting the building properly. If the monitor has been notified that the program would be receiving new residents on a particular day they are responsible for assigning rooms to the residents. Monitors are also there to help the residents in any way they
can. Security monitors are responsible for issuing basic necessities to the residents. The position requires that monitors provide direction and assistance to the residents as needed. Throughout the shift monitors are responsible for documenting in the medication log any resident that comes down to the office to take medication and they also are required to write the dosage and what kind of medication the resident is taking at that particular time. At the end of the shift the monitor is not allowed to leave his post until the next shift has signed on for duty. The monitor must have knowledge of company rules, regulations, and procedures to be able to succeed at this job.
The problem behavior associated with individuals making bad food choices when presented with unhealthy food will need to be observed so that we may understand how to change this behavior as it is unhealthy and harmful to health overall. Janet’s responsibility is to be in the know of all the policies. procedures, and processes. The manager is responsible for coordinating with the OHSA team and setting up training and meetings to ensure that all departments are in compliance with the standards. As part of our training we have annual testing that involves taking a series of computerized tests that addresses staff safety issues. Scenario 2 – The first obvious fix would have been for everyone to agree to a few norms for the meeting. One being to use “I” statements instead of “you” statements. The teacher everyone was upset with might have responded a bit differently had she not felt attacked by the team. Another fix, although it was tried, was a mediator. Maybe if the mediator had been someone other than an administrator, for instance a counselor, the teacher would have been more open to listening to the team. Having an administrator present possibly made her feel as if her job was in jeopardy. Along with the use of I statements the mediator needed to ensure everyone had a chance to speak and actively listen. Active listening does not mean you agree with the
Nursing home administrator deals with a lot from monitoring employees, making sure residents are getting the care that he or she needs and monitoring that the facility is up to date with all certifications. 24 Privacy Rights Clearinghouse (2002) Employee Monitoring: Is There Privacy in the Workplace? . (6/3/2004)
They have to answer the door and the telephone to visitors and greet them. They have to ask each person what they would like to eat and give them a choice and then serve the food to them and sometimes might need to feed them if they need the help. Some other responsibilities include helping people with medication, making sure every resident is clean and washed regularly, dressed and fed and to clean the premises to a standard that meets the health and safety.
Do we really have our privacy rights in the workplace? In today’s society we are so caught up with our rights that we often forget about work rules. If someone goes into my office or someone reads my email I feel violated and deprived of my rights. But the real question is, are these things my own to do with? In all reality if it is a private organization the person who owns the business is the owner of all offices and computers, so in that case you’re just using his stuff.
O'Reilly, John. An Employer's Guide to Surveillance, Searches & Medical Examination. Toronto: Thomson Canada Limited, 2003.
One type of surveillance is employee monitoring. Many employers monitor their workers’ activities for one reason or another. Companies monitor employees using many methods. They may use access panels that requires employees to identify themselves to control entry to various area in the building, allowing them to create a log of employee movements. They may also use software to monitor attendance and work hours. Additionally, many programs allows companies to monitor activities performed on work computers, inspect employee emails, log keystrokes, etc. An emerging methods of employee monitor also include social network and search engine monitoring. Employers can find out who their employees are associated with, as well as other potentially incriminating information. (Ciocchetti)
You get to work, login, check your email, and examine the values of your stocks. Have you done something wrong? Should your manager care about what you do with those couple of minutes? Hypothetically, if you consider 48 working days per year, with 40 hours per weeks (totally 9,600 hours of work a year), then the daily five minutes of personal internet usage mounts to approximately 24 hours (three working days) of wasted company time. In a capitalist economy, such inefficiency impedes the goal to maximize profit; therefore, compelling businesses to turn to rigorous surveillance to discourage inappropriate use of company resources and to promote productivity. As the American legislative and judicial culture has generally upheld companies’ proprietary rights to monitor their employees at the expense of employees’ privacy, civil libertarians have protested to what they claim to be direct violation of the employees’ right to privacy, which the First, Third, Fourth, and Fifth Amendment implicitly guarantee.
For my observation experience I went to Southern High School in Harwood, MD. Southern High School has a special education department for the students with disabilities. The teacher that I met with for this classroom observation was Ms. West. In the classroom there were at least four assistant teachers that helped Ms. West throughout the school day. The assistant teachers helped Ms. West co- teach the class and were there to help the students if they needed extra help. The school also has a couple of student aides that come in to help the teachers and the students in the classroom. There were at least twelve students in the classroom. The students in the class had many different exceptionalities such as learning disabilities, Down syndrome,
