My observation and interview of the position of a security monitor for the organization veterans on the rise provided me with extensive information on the duties and responsibilities of this job. The Job of a security monitor for an organization like veterans on the rise requires knowledge of modern computer technology, the ability to communicate effectively to the residents and staff, and the skills to monitor the proper function of the program and the safety of the veterans. The top priorities in this position are ensuring the protection of property, the safety of staff and residents, and the cleanliness of the facility. The beginning of a monitors day usually starts with signing in via email and in a sign in book to document the fact that the monitor has successfully arrived to the job on time and is ready to work. If the monitor sees anything of concern while checking the resident’s room or a resident is not present, the monitor must document this and also inform the site manager immediately of any house concerns. Once any house concerns are reported and the initial room inspections are over, the monitor will return to the office to complete any required shift paperwork. Throughout the rest of the security monitors shift they are required to conduct room checks every hour while also maintaining the cleanliness of the facility with general maintenance such as, sweeping and mopping common areas. If there is a fire drill scheduled for the day the security monitor is responsible for conducting that and making sure that residents practice exiting the building properly. If the monitor has been notified that the program would be receiving new residents on a particular day they are responsible for assigning rooms to the residents.
