“Bullying is killing our kids. Being different is killing our kids and the kids who are bullying are dying inside. We have to save our kids whether they are bullied or they are bullying. They are all in pain.” –Cat Cora. By reading words of my youth by Joe Mackal we can observe how the painful words of others can affect one self, how people by saying those words can get a sense of power, and the importance of bullying itself. Bullying is a subject that has been touched many times, now days there are many campaigns against bullying and many new resources to help and prevent bullying. This story starts off with two boys playing a game of Wiffle ball, when suddenly a kid-man, as the book describes, comes up to the two boys and punches them in the nose, the act of this kid-man is the result of the two boys insulting and bullying his girlfriend by calling her a duke. In the second part of the short story, words of my youth, we see one of the same boys insulting one of his “friends” by calling him a dumb Jew, what’s funny about this story is that the boy does recognize that what he is doing is wrong and he does question himself but he does nothing to stop it. Which is something that people might relate to, but people might also relate to being the victim of bullying, which is my case.

There are also several issues concerning bullying, from the bully itself facing many inner problems, to the victim struggling with his own experience of being bullied. Another important issues are the long-term effects bullying has, for me going through middle school being bullied, made me the person I am today, and I would not change anything, because I see it as a lesson, an experience of personal growth and mostly a way in which my experience can help many other people who are going through
Bullying has many negative effects on many people such as the victim, the bully himself, and society. Studies show these effects may turn out to be short-term or long-term.
Andrea Gibson’s’ poem ‘Letter to the Playground Bully’ is an unforgettable poem about bullying. She cleverly crafts a poem from the perspective of an 8 and a half year old girl who is trying to confront the playground bully through a letter. The poem’s sole purpose is to expose the hardships and reality for victims of bullying. She achieves this by making the speaker a younger version of herself. She wrote this poem in order to perform in front of high school and elementary school students to try and stop bullying. Gibson explores unfamiliar territory related to bullying in a straightforward, sweet, yet different approach.
Things have to be done to prevent bullying in schools in order for society to overcome this fast growing problem. Lives could be saved from students acting out, as well as lives bettering from students who would not be bullied anymore. Society would become better as a whole without teenage bullying, or even adult bullying seen in the workplace. In many cases, people don’t help out with the situation unless they’ve been through it before, which is also not helping. The world would be better and happier if bullying was completely eliminated from it.
The poem, To This Day, written by a world renowned poet Shane Koyczan, Brings to light “the profound and lasting impact that bullying can have on an individual.”
Many people find the word “bullying” hard to define. In fact, the definition of the word has changed greatly within the last ten years. The current definition of bullying, according to stopbullying.gov, is “unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is reappeared, or has the potential to be repeated over tim...
Bullying in school arises as a global issue, and people are becoming more aware of its essence and its consequences. Going to school should be like a second home, a safe, compliant place, but for some student, school can be a social nightmare. Some may view bullying as a harmless act, but it is in fact a dangerous act. Students that have been bullied tend to be emotionally unstable, depressed, loss of interest in school and they have a higher risk of becoming drug addicts and school dropout. Bullying does not only affect the person being bullied, but also the bully himself. Persons who are bullies are usually the ones with the most problems and they use bullying as a mask to hide all their problems. Students who bully are more prone to abuse alcohol and drugs, they usually engage in risky sexual activities and are more likely to grow up as criminal
Bullying has both short term and long effects on the victim. A victim of someone who has been bullied for so long can lead to them bullying other individuals, making this a never-ending cycle. "Bu...
Imagine a society overrun by bullies. It would be awfully frightening if it was true, but it is. The Bully Society, by Jessie Klein discusses the many stories kids who are entangled with issues regarding bullying and how they are struggling to cope. Before Klein began writing her book, she worked for years as a high school teacher, a social worker, and a conflict resolution coordinator. Klein writes many scholarly journals, articles which have appeared in many well-known media organizations. One of her main goals as described on her website, www.JessieKlein.com, is “I hope to help schools build compassionate communities leading to more peaceful and productive education environments.” Klein is a very diligent and hardworking woman. She tries to emphasize the need for improvements whether it is about education or communities. She strives as an influential role model to possibly many of her past students and those she has encountered.
Experts say that bullying begins around middle school, where children are changing to young adults. In bullying there are three people involved the bully, the victim, and the bystander. The bystander also holds responsibility when bullying occurs, because they are present but never take part because they fear the intimidator. Often targets are considered to be “different” from others, and that consists of students having specials needs, being gay, bisexual, overweight, or most importantly students who are viewed as easy prey. When bullying is attempted it can ruin a student physically and emotionally influencing the capability of a pupil to learn. It is recorded that in the United States 160,000 teenagers skip school in order to avoid bullying, and one out of ten teens quits school because of continuous tormenting. In 2014 statistics in the U.S. showed that only 20-30 percent of students who are bullied tell an adult or the authorities. The only way bullying can be prevented is when schools make a great effort to create no tolerance programs, and effective rules. That will result...
...e issue is not bullying itself. Bullying is actually quite positive in small doses. Constructive-bullying as I call it provides, if applied correctly, just enough of a push to ensure that an individual may achieve greatness. The issue is how bullying is perceived and how it is treated. If we are able to change that by just a little and in time society will surely improve in even the most unexpected of areas.
Bullying, it is a major issue around many people, the world, and often reported in the news. Many who experienced bullying with or without knowing that they have been bullied or even bullied other people. There are many reasons for people to become bullies, and it is happening all around us. Bullying comes in many different forms: physical bullying, verbal bullying, relational bullying, psychological bullying, and social bullying. In the past, bullying can only happen in person, but with improving technologies, there is a new kind of bullying called cyber-bullying.
Bullying has been a part of schooling for as long as children have been congregating. To some it seems like a natural, though uncomfortable, part of life and school experience, while to others it can mean terrifying experiences which spoiled and characterized otherwise happy years in school. Dan Olweus, a pioneer in bully behavior research documented that 2.7 million children are affected as victims, and that 2.1 children act as bullies (Fried, 1997, as cited in Aluedse, 2006). With bullying cited as the reason for violent, gun-related crime in the past few years, school districts as well as national governments have put anti-bullying policies in place. Bullying is a complicated phenomenon, involving more than one child demanding lunch money from a smaller child. It is a worldwide epidemic hitting schools everywhere. Virtually everyone has seen or experienced bullying. With technological advances, bullying is even hitting the internet. Parents, teachers, students and governments agencies alike are attempting to put a stop to bullying practices.
Bullying is something that is not something new and is actually something that society continues to face. Over the years, bullying has been looked at as being so ordinary in schools that it is continuously overlooked as an emanate threat to students and has been lowered to a belief that bullying is a part of the developmental stage that most young children will experience then overcome (Allebeck, 2005, p. 129). Not everyone gets over the extreme hurt that can come as an effect from bullying, for both the bully and the victim. Because of this, we now see bullying affecting places such as the workplace, social events and even the home. The issue of bullying is not only experienced in schools, but the school environment is one of the best places
“"If bullying is every single mean thing that happens, then there's nothing we can do to stop it," says Emily Bazelon, author of Sticks and Stones.” (pg. 8).
Bullying of students in school is an abuse that affects and produces a number of negative experiences on the victim. It is proven that those students who bully do so merely because they see themselves superior than those being bullied. They use this as a tactic to make juniors fear them and show them that they are not equal in any way. Some will even bully as a revenge of the bullying they suffered in the past. I have been bullied before and I know some of the effects it could have on a person. Bullying is a serious cause of many issues and has effects that may be long lasting.
