Wonder Lit. Essay-Julian Being a bully is not a good path to take, but unfortunately, Julian Albens took that path. In the story, Wonder, by R.J. Palacio, Julian is a bully who thinks that it is funny to tease other people. He bullies Auggie about his face, Jack about being friends with Auggie, the “freak”, and the rest of the people in the school.
In the beginning of the story, Julian bullies Auggie about his deformed face. Auggie was born with a different looking face and everyone always stared at him, but Julian does a lot more than just look. He said that Auggie looked like a Star Wars character named Darth Sidious. What made it so mean was that the Star Wars character was burned very badly and his face looked like Auggie’s normal face.

As a matter of fact, he lies to the entire school by saying that Jack is just overpressured to be friends with Auggie, and it’s not just that he wants to. He states that Jack is friends with a freak and he starts, “the war.” Julian goes around telling everyone that Jack punched him because Jack had emotional problems. During, “The War,” Julian attempted to pull Jack and Auggie apart from being friends. To add on to that, Julian decided that it would be funny to introduce, “The Plague.” The Plague was a game that was played by the rules, if you touch Auggie Pullman than you had 30 seconds to wash your hands. This gruesome entertainment continued until everyone knew about it, even Auggie. I can officially claim now that Julian is a terrible, spine-chilling bully who cares about no one but himself. As you probably have noticed, Julian is a cruel person who thinks bullying others is funny. In the story, “Wonder,” by R.J. Palacio, Julian is very well known for being the kid who never gives up trying to bully other people. He bullies Auggie, Jack, and then moves on to the rest of the school. We have all seen what it feel like to be continuously bullied, so we can learn that acting like Julian is not the right path to
Bullying is when a person or group frequently harms someone who is weaker or more vulnerable then themselves. They do this by means of physical, verbal, or mental abuse. Bullies can be male, female, young or old. The nature of a bully depends on many factors such as sex, age, and past experiences. Depending on the nature of the bully, their actions can have many negative effects on others. Bullies display many characteristics such as aggression, rivalry, and competitive behavior. Bullying occurs in many different places, a good example is in the novel The Lord of the Flies. Jack, the antagonist in this novel, displays many characteristics of a bully. Many children have been victimized by the terrible acts of bullies.
...lies, and yet still sick for bullying in the first place. Bullies while they might be horrible, turn out to be harmless when confronted, just like Simon when he confronted the Beast.
One out of every four kids are bullied everyday in the U.S. Each day 160,000 students miss school for fear of being bullied. Being the new kid is hard enough without having a very noticeable facial deformity. In Wonder, the author, R.J Palacio writes about a kid that teens can empathize since most teens have been bullied at least once in their life before. I would very much recommend this book to my fellow peers due to the excellent quality of the book.
‘Wonder’ Why has Palacio written the novel ‘Wonder’ and try to present good ideas to show us the importance that adolescents have on bullying? ‘Wonder’ has shown that young adolescents can have a huge impact to our world, especially for young people to recognise how important it is to include others, no matter what. We all need to be accepted. August Pullman is a young 10 year old boy with a condition called Treachers Collins. This condition caused him to be born into this world with a deformed face.
When I watched the movie Wonder I felt like everyone could connect to how the main character Auggie was feeling because we all have insecurities. Auggie faced so many challenges in the movie like bullying, betrayal, arguments and disagreements, but also Auggie wasn't paying close attention to the people around him like his sister. His sister (Via) was always the one feeling left out. No one in his family was paying attention to her and after awhile she just got used to it like it was a habit. They would always pay attention to the problems in her brother's life rather than her own sometimes. At the start of the movie when it was Auggie's first day at school lots of kids were bullying him. One day, Auggie was sitting at the cafeteria alone, so Jack
He would always make fun of Auggie, and it really did hurt him. So they wrote fake letters from a fake person. “One was: You’re so pretty, Julian! I love you . Will you marry me! Love Beulah,” it was really funny. One that really shows that Auggie was trying to get out of a uncomfortable situation is “ Did you know the guy who created the Uglydolls based it on me?” We all know that he is joking, but you can tell he is trying to get out of an awkward situation. In any of the other books, it was not humors. They all were sad and lonely feeling, in each and every one of
Auggie’s character traits help him in his new journey as he begins public school. His sense of humor helps him overlook his condition with deformities. Auggie’s different forms of bravery help him carry on in life without others looking down on him. Finally, Auggie is able to reach out and create friendships with others through his kindness. Auggie’s character traits not only help him, but also speak to others by saying that it doesn’t matter how you look on the outside, but how you act towards people from the
One example of bullying occurred during one of Zacks classes. “Douglas Knotcher was currently engaged in his daily humiliation of Casey Cox”. Douglas spent majority of the class firing spit balls at
When someone first thinks of bullying, their perception of the bully may be someone who chooses to be mean or cruel to another due to their own low self-esteem. This concept however is one that may not be true at all. In fact, according to Jaana Juvonen, a professor of developmental psychology at UCLA, who has published multiple books and articles on this subject, a bully usually has a very high self-esteem and is usually from the group that one would consider being the “popular crowd”. The perspective of Auggie has well as his sister and other classmates really completes the book. Written by R.J. Palacio, this amazing book, Wonder, deserves to be included in Pembroke Meadows’ Little Free Library because of the excellent reviews, because of the inspiring message of anti-bullying, and because of the perfect representation of the genre. Wonder is an award-winning book
Olweus, D. (1984). Aggressors and their victims: Bullying at school. In N. Fmde & H. Gault
In this movie, Julian has absolutely no respect for Auggie. It is not only Julian, it is almost everyone at Auggie’s school. Although, Julian is the rudest. Julian always makes fun of Auggie, because of Auggie’s face. Fortunately, there were some kids who decided to be friends with Auggie, and who did not judge Auggie by only
“Bullying is something that no one should ever have to experience,” unfortunately this anonymous quote happens a lot in life, and it is also happening by Julian, from the book Wonder, written by R.J. Palacio, and Alexia from, Because of Mr.Terupt, written by Rob Buyea.Julian goes to a school where a person named Auggie, who has a deformed face, goes.Julian was picked out of a bunch of students to be nice to him and give him a tour, but julian is not nice.Instead he bullies auggie.Alexia goes to a school that she used to get away with bullying. With her new teacher she does not.Even after her teacher talks to her, she still bullies others. These characters are similar because they share goals, they have negative energy meaning they are rude, and they both work hard in a bad way.
High school is a tough time in life when some people around you can feel so alone and trapped. In my personal experience, I found out how my simple smile turned the life of a bully victim around. The article, “A Day After Class On Bullying, A Suicide,” gives us an inside view on how hard the life of a bully victim can be. They go into detail about the ultimate damage that can occur to someone of any age, and with a few pages, this article informs us about tragic suicide that followed. Bullying can be hard on a teenager and with the insight of these articles, as well as my own personal experience, we can see the pain and suffering that these bullies bring upon the entire family, friends, and community.
Bullying is something that is not something new and is actually something that society continues to face. Over the years, bullying has been looked at as being so ordinary in schools that it is continuously overlooked as an emanate threat to students and has been lowered to a belief that bullying is a part of the developmental stage that most young children will experience then overcome (Allebeck, 2005, p. 129). Not everyone gets over the extreme hurt that can come as an effect from bullying, for both the bully and the victim. Because of this, we now see bullying affecting places such as the workplace, social events and even the home. The issue of bullying is not only experienced in schools, but the school environment is one of the best places
