Imagine having to be homeschooled because you do not want people to make fun of the way you look. Even your face. In the book Wonder by, R.J. Palacio is about a little boy named, August Pullman. On August tenth birthday party, his parents think about the “big future” August could have if he just went to school. August’s parents realize that he needs to learn more than what his mom can teach him. But, what August does not know is that, he needs to learn to be able to socialize with a world that always isn’t always nice to people who look obscure. What will August do if he goes to the “real world”? August thinks and thinks about, what will happen if he goes to school and people make fun of him? How will he react? into the real world and despite the many rude people, he found a different way to prevent people hating on him. This one kid named, Julian buggs Auggie because, Julian will not stop asking Auggie personal question. Continued, Auggie deals with the problem himself. People make fun of August for his unfortunate problem but he notices, who cares what people think of you. In the middle, Auggie came up with a new way to hide his face, he uses a astronaut helmet that his sisters best friend gave to him. Auggie’s sister Via, is worried about Auggie and tries to talk to him. In the end, August takes off the helmet and shows people his true colors and he doesn't care if people make fun of him because he ignores them. When the time comes, August takes care of them problem on his own and notices that, who cares what people think about, you. “Now that I look back, I don't know why I was so stressed about it all this time. Funny how sometimes you worry a lot about something and it turns out to be nothing.” (155 Palacio) The theme of the novel is, express your true feelings and despite what other people think about you. In the novel people repeatedly make fun of Auggie and he gets offended and upset. Sometimes he really does not know how to control his anger. For example, Auggie has a special piece of hair that is braided. When Auggie arrives to school the next day, someone makes fun of it, so auggie runs home into his sisters room, takes scissors and cuts it off. The author uses the narrative voice of Auggie.
This choice impacted the book by him showing all of his true feelings and emotions. Auggie is a very strong little boy and has tons and tons of dreams that he wants to pursue in his life. I feel that in the book, Wonder everyone should be aware of their surrounding and notice how big people have there dream standers are. “Sometimes I think my head is so big because it is so full of dreams” (Palacio 88.) In that quote above auggie is right because he has so many dreams in life that some of them he might not be able to pursue because of his health problem. Do you ever wake up and think to yourself about if your going to be kind today? Or even “do the right thing” “When given the choice to be right or kind, choose kind”(Palacio 79). As you can see throughout the whole story Auggie is a very positive person and sets a positive and calm tone in the story. well. One setting from the novel, would be Beecher Prep (Auggies school). This is important to him because. He learns and experiences many new and fun filling. Auggie is a very energetic person and stands up for what is right. “It’s not enough to be friendly. You have to be a friend.”(Palacio 60). Auggie tries so hard to explain people the purpose of his god awful condition. A lot of people in Auggie school think that, if you want attention you have to be mean or if you want people to notice you, you have to be “Perfect”. “Sometimes you don’t have to be mean to hurt someone” (Palacio 92). Auggie notices all the mean people in the world and tries to make them good people again and try to explains not everyone needs to be mean. Auggie loves to make people happy and show them how to be nice. Auggie is a very energetic and loving person.
No one can compare to the love and support he has as a human being. Auggie gets to know more and more people and makes some new friends. “I wish everyday could be Halloween. We could all wear masks all the time. Then we could walk around and get to know each other before we got to see what we looked like under the masks” (Palacio 45). Auggie does not want people to see the true him. August feels that if everyone wears a facemask all the time then why can't he do it too. Auggie worries about all the bad stuff i the world and does not focus on the good. “Funny how sometimes you worry a lot about something and it turns out to be nothing.” (Palacio 112) People do not realize the damage tehri doing when they hurt other people's feelings. When people get older and more mature, one day they will notice who their surroundings
are. I would recommend this book to any ages from seven to eleven because, i feel that little kids should know the struggles that kids their age go through. Half the people in the world think “you have to be better than everyone”. But, in reality that's not the case. In the book Wonder towards the end, august realizes how life would be if he just was himself and did not hide his true feelings. On a scale from one to ten; i would give this book a beyond ten! This is so because, it teaches you about real world reality and how you need to be aware of your surroundings and not to hide anything from anyone. Auggie tries to hide his inner self but turns out to be able to show his true self and not care what people think about him.
It also explores ideas about prejudice of someone’s appearance and how friendship, peer pressure and family support contribute to complicating or resolving the problem. Through these core themes, Carl has doubt and worry, but also learns confidence and acceptance.
The outlook on our future is promising due to teenagers realizing how crucial uniqueness is in this world. Teenagers are coming to the realization that a person’s heart is much more important than their outer appearance. Teenagers are beginning to understand that a person’s outer appearance isn’t what’s going to make the world better, their heart is. In both “The Uglies” and in “Harrison Bergeron”, the authors show how they believe the future is going to turn out. Their predictions show a future that is not so promising and a future that is completely controlled by their government. Reading these stories should inspire young teenagers minds and help them realize that this isn’t the type of future they want, which will then lead to teenagers
No one would talk to her, recess was spent in anguish, and she would find garbage and spoiled food in her book bag. As she progressed into 5th grade, some of the social atmosphere began to shift in subtle but profound ways. Being accepted into a clique is all that matters. Instead of being admired for class participation, as in earlier years she was laughed at and labeled as “teacher’s pet.” She said the rules were simple “shun or be shunned—if you weren’t willing to go along with the crowd, you would become the reject.”
When life becomes overwhelming during adolescence, a child’s first response is to withdraw from the confinement of what is considered socially correct. Individuality then replaces the desire to meet social expectations, and thus the spiral into social non-conformity begins. During the course of Susanna’s high school career, she is different from the other kids. Susanna:
As we all know children grow and develop at their own pace but for an adolescent is isn’t just pimples or being too skinny. For adolescents their appearance can make or break their entire school experience. They can either be the popular prom queen such a Claire or maybe even the tough bad boy like Bender. But what about the little guys out there what about the not so pretty or not so big and tough guys what about people like Brian? Brian is very intelligent yet he lacks something that the other boys in the movie have and that is size. Brian is significantly smaller than the other two. For a child like Brian it is difficult to be accepted into social circles that involve things that more mature looking adolescents are involved in. Although this is something adolescents have been having to deal with for generations their appearance can cause then tremendous issues. Like Brian, a child will be pushed around talked over or even bullied for their small stature or in ...
Children have often been viewed as innocent and innocent may be a nicer way to call children naive. Since children’s lives are so worry free they lack the knowledge of how to transition from being a child to becoming an adolescent. Their lack of knowledge may be a large part of their difficulties growing up, which could be a few rough years for many. In books like the boy in the striped pajamas the story is told from the point of view of a little boy, this way we get a full view of how innocent he is. In this book the writer shows the reader first hand how a child viewed the holocaust and how his innocence cost him his life. Then in books like the perks of being a wallflower Charlie is a teen whom is struggling with the transition from being a child to becoming an adolescent. In this book the writer gives a first hand look at how difficult it can be to transition into an adolescent. Charlie has many difficulties in this book; he is in search of his identity and how to fit in.

Analysis of The Mother by Gwendolyn Brooks. For this assignment, I chose the poem "The Mother" by Gwendolyn Brooks. This poem is generally about abortion and the feelings a mother has. It's about the remembrance of the children aborted and the little things children do that the mother will miss.
In Wonder, RJ Palacio showed Auggie as a young naive boy who seemed to have plenty of doubt in himself, but that didn’t stop him from letting his values be known. For ex, “The words supposedly, by the way, I said. What are you talking about? You said supposably before,” I said (Palacio 30). Auggie is still shown to feel very insecure about himself even though his sarcasm is well known throughout the book. For ex, “I eat like a tortoise if you ever seen a tortoise eating. Like some prehistoric swamp thing.”(Palacio 50). In Paul though, he is able to grasp the fact that he has fear and doubt for himself over Erik. He admits in the book itself that he is scared of Erik in the beginning. For ex, “I’ve always been afraid of Erik. Now I get to be afraid of Erik and Arthur.” (Bloor 40). Auggie though doesn’t really understand what is going on in his life and why it is going on due to him being homeschooled most of his life.Paul knew what going on the whole time, but was too scared to

Book Report: The Conundrum by David Owen Efficiency is not always the answer, according to David Owen, in his novel The Conundrum, explains that society is headed in the wrong direction, believing that to be greener we need to make our everyday lives more efficient when in reality we need to change our behavior. As consumers, people want to be sustainable and preserve the Earth while greedily expanding our collection of trinkets. Efficiency can be beneficial, but to make the world a greener one, it is essential for people to change their behavior, not efficiency of the products. The Conundrum describes how in modern times we have come a long way in increasing the efficiencies of cars, air conditioners, trains, airplanes, energy resources, or
