The book I am reviewing is one of my most recent reads, and is one of my favorite books. The book is called Wonder; it is a fantastic book on how society and his new school treats this 12 year old boy. August, or Auggie, his nickname that he goes by most of the time. August, despite his disease always has a positive look on the situation. Auggie`s sister Olivia or Via as she goes by at home has always been close to Auggie and always looks out for him. Auggie was born with a disease, that makes his face deformed and has been home schooled his whole life, but his parents have second thoughts on whether it’s time for Auggie to go to public school. The parents both have different opinions on whether it’s time for Auggie to go to school. Auggie
already has a tough time as he gets multiple looks of disgust or stares when he goes into public or to public places. Auggie`s parents convince Auggie to at least go in the summer before school starts for a tour around the school. Auggie then decides to give public school a try. Auggie goes to school, on his first day of school everyone stares, but by now though Auggie is used to it. He tries to hide his face most of the time. Auggie secretly see as kids try no sneak a peek at him behind folders or when he’s not looking. Nobody really talks to Auggie the first day or sits next to him in classes except Jack Will. One of the students Mr. Tushman had selected to give Auggie the tour around the school in the summer. Jack Will sits by Auggie in all their classes together. When lunch comes nobody sits by Auggie but a girl named Summer. Summer is really kind to Auggie, unlike her friends. Auggie has a tough time at school and kids are vile to Auggie. They make up the plague which is similar to the stinky cheese touch. Nobody would high five Auggie, touch him, or dance with him during dance class. In my opinion his classmates were making a big fuss over nothing. One day, they were allowed up dress up for Halloween. He wore a different costume than he planned. He walked into homeroom and overheard Jack Will talking ruthless about Auggie to Julian and Julian’s friends’ right in front of his face. Jack Will said that Mr. Tushman had made him be friends with Auggie. Auggie ran out of the classroom and cried and missed homeroom. He then went to the nurse’s office and pretended to be sick to go home. He didn’t want to go back to school ever again, but Via was mad he gave up so quick and convinced him to give it another try. Auggie skipped trick or treating, his favorite thing to do, and remained to fake sick for a while. Auggies ears got depraved over this period of time and he had to get hearing aids. He finally returned to school and ignored Jack Will. He told Summer all about what had happened and she couldn’t believe it. He kept a grudge against Jack Will until Jack Will asked Summer if Auggie was mad at him. Summer gave him the hint Scream which Auggie was dressed up as the day he heard Jack Will and said no more. Jack Will finally got the hint and apologized to Auggie and they were selected to work on a project together. They went on a school camp out trip later on. Him and Jack Will sneak out to the woods and come across some kids from another school being cruel to Auggie, they would make fun of him and Jack Will stood up for him and some other kids from his school. Auggie then became friends with these kids and kids at school had a whole new respect for Auggie. They weren’t afraid of Auggie any more they were Auggies friend, and wanted to be around Auggie.

After hearing a brief description of the story you might think that there aren’t many good things about they story. However, this is false, there are many good things in this book that makes it a good read. First being that it is a very intriguing book. This is good for teenage readers because often times they don’t willingly want to read, and this story will force the teenage or any reader to continue the book and continue reading the series. Secondly, this is a “good” book because it has a good balance of violence. This is a good thing because it provides readers with an exciting read. We hear and even see violence in our everyday life and I believe that it is something teenagers should be exposed to. This book gives children an insig...
I have just read the book titled Among the Impostors. The author of this book is Margaret Peterson Haddix. This book is a sequel to Among the Hidden. In Among the Hidden, a boy named Luke is hiding from the world because he is an illegal third child. He shouldn’t exist because the government limited the amount of children to each family to two because of the decreasing amounts of food. Luke gets sick of hiding and wants to make a difference, so he gets a fake I.D. with the help of a neighbor and goes to a boarding school. Among the Impostors continues on with Luke’s life in the boarding school, and shows that no matter how people act, they can be very different on the inside. At the boarding school, there is a boy named Jason who gives Luke a very hard time. He has him do push-ups and a bunch of other pointless tasks just in order to get into his bed. Luke is getting sick of it, and one day, he notices that a door is open in the school. It shows the outdoors, and Luke knows that’s his only chance of escaping the wretched school. Once he gets outside, he notices that it’s surrounded by a huge forest that stretches for miles. He ventures outside and makes himself a pitiful garden, but he feels good about it anyway. That was the only thing that kept him there. Then one day he went outside and found that his garden was ruined by people who had stomped all over it. Luke cooks up a plan to bust the people that ruined his garden. He sneaks out during the night and waits for the people to arrive outside. He finds that one of them is Jason. As he eavesdrops on their conversation, he finds out that they’re all third children too.

The first and most brave thing Auggie has ever gone through is having surgeries. In all of Auggie’s life, he has had 27 surgeries to correct facial anomalies; this definitely requires much bravery! Another act of bravery was when he decided to go to his new public school, Beecher Prep. This decision was very brave, since Auggie would risk being made fun of for his deformed face. In the past he was always protected by his mother, who homeschooled him, and no one could make fun of him. Going to a public school was definitely a brave step for Auggie. In addition, the middle school Auggie goes to planned to go to camp. Deciding to go on this camping trip was a remarkable decision for Auggie, since he had never slept anywhere without his parents. This was another brave choice for Auggie. Also, when he was at the camp, he and Jack left the group watching a movie when both boys needed to pee and the line for the toilets was too long. Because the lines were so long, they went into the woods to do their business. On their way back, they bumped into another group of people they did not know. As soon as they saw Auggie, they screamed and were calling him names. Then, one of the boys named Eddie shone the flashlight he was holding in Auggie’s face. After that, Jack tried to push the hand holding the flashlight away but the boy just pushed him to the ground. Auggie then said, “We’re smaller than you guys…” Then suddenly,
