According to Linda Woolfe, the violence against women and girls is the most pervasive violation of human rights in the world today. Women face difficulties and problems dealing with equal rights all over the world, although women in middle eastern countries face stronger stereotypes and harsher rules dealing with their rights. Women in the middle east face very strict gender roles due to the taliban and other terrorist groups that have taken control of those countries. They use fear and intimidation against civilizations to gain power. The rules and consequences are especially harsh on women as they are looked upon as below men. Many basic human rights are taken away from these women, causing them to be treated like property rather than humans.
Women are not allowed to do many things without a man in their presence. Such as talking to male shopkeepers, doctors, or officials. Women are even prohibited to talk to a man unless they are apart of their immediate family. Women also have restrictions on things they can do in their daily lives. Women are not allowed to laugh loudly, appear on television, or wear brightly colored clothes. Watching movies, listening to music, and flying kites are banned by the Taliban …show more content…

Women are forced to obey all men they encounter, whether they are their immediate family or men throughout their community. Sarah Dean for the Daily Mail U.K. reported an instance of just how grave the consequences of disobeying rules are. When an Afghani woman who decided to go the store without her husband, she was beheaded. The taliban and other terrorist groups have made an example of killing women who decide to rebel against the rules they have set for them. This sends out a message to women that they are beneath men and that the mistreatment of women is something that is normal.
