I find the topic of women in the church`s ministry frustrating at times because as a woman my self I so badly want to justify and make clear our role in ministry while still obeying what God`s word has commanded of us. Luckily for me I grew up in a non fundamentalist church in which women in church positions were not looked down upon but instead greatly appreciated and respected. So while growing up I never thought any different until I began to study the Bible more in depth and came to find out that more often then not the Bible discourages women in ministry. However, there is more to the scriptures on the subject then what it appears and people often forget to consider the difference between what is eternally significant and what is just simply culturally relative. I am going to take a deeper look into what was going on at the time during the scriptures and what was truly trying to be expressed through them.

Bruce Barron is a well-known Christian author of many books on the Christian faith, as well as the author of the essay, “PUTTING WOMEN IN THEIR PLACE: 1 TIMOTHY 2 AND EVANGELICAL VIEWS OF WOMEN IN CHURCH LEADERSHIP”. Barron starts off his essay giving some background on the current battle going on in churches today and how various denominations are deciding to go in different paths when it comes to a woman’s role in the church.
To say that the religious power of women was reduced, is of course, to suggest that they held power in first place. In the early Christian church, women had great influence, and in fact held several offices: deaconess, widow, presbyter, and wives of clergy. Praying for the congregation, instructing female catechumens, baptizing women, teaching doctrine, and consecrating the Eucharist were just some of the responsibilities of these early female church officials (Ute, 53). But by approximately 750 C.E. women had lost these major roles in the Church, as well as the power and influence they once had.
The role of the women in My Antonia as the showcased laborers and workers in the new community does not, certainly, alleviate the questions of patriarchal influence offered in the discussions of gender. However, recognizing the women's relationship to the development of national culture does suggest some alternative readings to the conclusions often reached, even as Ántonia's sacrifice of her own education does not exclude the contribution she makes to American culture, as we shall see.
In Women, Church, God: A Socio-Biblical Study, Caleb Rosado uses a socio-biblical approach to discuss the role of women in the church today and how they were treated in the Bible, during the patriarchal times. The status of women within the Catholic Church is often deemed a controversial topic. In particular, the position of females in the contemporary Roman Catholic Church is an interesting notion to consider. I have always found the role of women in religion to be a fascinating and diverse subject, varying from community to community. Sometimes, the role of a woman in society is so closely linked to her religious role, that the two are indistinguishable. For example, why is it that some women are expected to upkeep the home and children without question? How are such gender roles assigned? Are these gender roles created by religion and upheld by culture or created by culture and upheld by religion? Where do such social expectations stem from? What does the daily life of a woman in religious groups that hold such expectations look like? And given these questions, is it possible for such roles to evolve? Has social change within gender roles occurred in the context of religion? In order to find the answers to these questions and questions like them, one must seek further insight of religion itself and the social context within which it exists.
Yes, in every place God has called the men to lead in worship—1 Timothy 2:8. I am certain there are women, within the body of Christ, who would be excellent pulpit preachers, song leaders, and prayer leaders. However, talent or excellence is not our authority in the church. God’s word is our authority.

As a consequence, women now pursue not only higher education and higher paid jobs/ businesses, but their rights. One of the world’s most controversial issues among churches of today is the role of a woman. Many people are confused about the duty of a woman and how she is supposed to serve God because of history. History taught us to never deny someone of gender, race, or even diversity since he or she has human rights. However, this issue should not be viewed as men versus women because this is not a political issue; instead, it should be viewed as the structural of a church. Women should not be priests, pastors, or even rabbis for God condone women for being priests, pastors, and rabbis as well as proscribed.
The Torah, in general, does not exactly alleviate the situation of women. Many Jewish feminists argue that a big chunk of the misogynistic views of men stem from the exclusivity of God as male. Judith Plaskow says, “There is the fact that we address God as he. And it is not just that we use the masculine pronoun in the absence of neuter ones – we image him in male terms. Thus he is King, Lord, Shepard, Father, etc.” She goes on to mention the incredulous arguments against the ordainment of women. Arguments that stated things like because a Rabbi or Minister is in effect a Godly figure, and since God is used in exclusively male terms, it is not fitting that a woman should take a role in the clergy.
Women in the Catholic Church take on many roles, from parishioner to laywoman to nuns. Women parishioners help prepare for the mass. They can be lectors, choir members, CCD instructors, etc. Laywomen “…are the Catholic women traditionally permitted certain ministerial responsibilities (Wessinger, 244).” They work in churches, schools, prisons, etc. Nuns dedicate their lives to religious devotion. They take three vows; poverty, chasity, and obedience. They are to live simple lifestyles. They live their lives teaching others and helping others.
