Schopenhauer, in his Essay on Women, is trying to demonstrate the inferiority of women compared to men. He describes women as if they are not as powerful or equal to men. His purpose is to break the image of the second sex. Overall, I disagree with his theory. We need to comprehend that the human species only survives when both genders ' work together. I recognize that there are differences between the genders. We need good women as much as we need good men. Are women physically weak? Yes, they are weak, relative to men. To say otherwise is irrational. Schopenhauer believes that Men should acknowledge …show more content…
Schopenhauer believes that woman were not created for physical or mental work. He believed that women’s purpose was to give birth to children. That women were meant to suffer in this world and be very good companions to their husbands. Maybe before in his days those points of views were approached as being correct, but now women have more things to do than just having kids. Women now have the ability and power to become Doctors, lawyers, and CEO’s. Schopenhauer said that even if women’s life seems easier, it did not mean that they will live better or happier than men. That Women are designed to be the nurses and teachers of their children because of Schopenhauer women act as childish as them. His belief comes from when women sing, play and dances with children. We know that this belief is wrong because women are more than that. Women tried to be the best for their children. Women do not have an easy life they take care of the kids, maintain a home, plus they also go to work. Schopenhauer belief that women didn’t have an intellect because, women didn’t have any interest in art, music and poetry. That if they know something about the arts is just to please …show more content…
Even today people still criticize women and tell them they are worthless, but we all have to be louder than those voices who are telling women that they aren’t good enough. Some men don’t give women a chance to get a job because of men women have to look a certain way or they got to act a certain way. Everyone should have a vested interest to make sure our women have the same opportunities a male do. Women aren’t given the opportunities to live up to their potential. When we don’t give them opportunities we lose out of their talents. Today women raised their kids as a single mother. They have to raise their kids and work at the same time. This is definitely a really complicated thing to do. They try to fix and put everything together without a lot of support. We are not as good of a country as we can be if women don’t have the same chances as man do. As a man we have to do better because women deserve better. In this world if someone does better everyone does better. We should wait for some to make a difference. If we want something to change we need to start. If we do not do anything about it we will end up been like those countries who their women do not have any
“In Spite of Women: Esquire Magazine and the Construction of the Male Consumer” Much of society’s perception of women today, according to Kenon Breazeale in the piece, “In Spite of Women: Esquire Magazine and the Construction of the Male Consumer”, is based upon the attempts to construct women as consumers. Breazeale claims that much of society’s one-dimensional view of women has everything to do with how consumerism has been viewed primarily as a feminine attribute. Using an in-depth analysis of the early years of Esquire Magazine, Breazeale uses an academic, stoic tone in an effort to remain impartial, although it is rather apparent that she feels strongly against the magazine and all it stood for during this time period. Breazeale effectively
Everyone views the world with his or her own sense of gender, equality, and mind. Woman today view the world as a one-sided standard where equality does not exist for them. They believe that men have taken away their chances of happiness and opportunity because there are men and we are woman. Even though both men and women share equal hardships some women believe that men still have the final say in their lives. In Scott Russell Sanders essay “The Men We Carry in Our Minds” he believes that women have life made essay in his mind but woman must work just as hard as men for jobs, believe that everything should be given to them just because to who they know and what they do, and that men will always ruin the world and that women are the more dominate
Decades ago, the women did not have a voice in any matter, may it be about the family, work or even your lifestyle. In this generation, countless women have fought so that other women can freely express themselves unlike back in the old days. Many feminist activists (from generations ago and in this generation) are fighting so that women can have more voice just as the men do. For example, in the 1960s-70s feminist movement many women joined in movement so they fight for job equality and eradicate the discrimination towards women. In the article The 1960s-70s American Feminist Movement: Breaking Down Barriers For Women it stated that "In 1964, Representative Howard Smith of Virginia proposed to add a prohibition on gender discrimination into the Civil Rights Act that was under consideration. He was greeted by laughter from the other Congressmen..." (Tavaana, P4). This means that many other good people had tried to give rights to women, but now that the society has changed a little. Women now have a voice meaning, they can choose what job, their career and how they would want their life to be. Just because that is how that past is, that does not mean that the future cannot change. The past will always stay as the past, but the future can change to how the actions, you caused can either affect you or other people around
Women were granted the right to work in labor industries, as all the men joined in the World Wars. Even though women were still discriminated in the workforce by receiving lower pay than men, the number of women working increased around the United States. After women began changing the labor industries, their voting rights were granted, changing the political views of the United States. Even though women were discriminated against throughout society in the 1920’s, they still fought for their rights as women that deserved an important role within our society. This change in women’s attitude has influenced women across the world to value themselves and their importance.
It’s not like women couldn’t work before, they could, but they didn’t have too much social freedom like getting divorced or not having children. Their voice wasn’t as important as men. Most of the time, men had to decide everything in the family and had control over the family. Coontz believes that today women have more control over their own lives and they can choose however they want to live their lives. Kuttner also agrees that “most Americans, after all, believe women should not be consigned to the nursery and the kitchen” (122).
The 1920s in American history had been a decade of drastic changes. It was the time when the traditional culture translated into the more modern practices.United States experienced super changes after the Great War had ended. During this decade, more people are moving to big cities and away from the suburbs to work in industrialized factories. Cars such as Ford were mass produced. Advertisement was first created in the age of consumerism. The 1920s, often known in America as the “Roaring Twenties”, is considered as the first modern era in which many advancements and improvements have been made.
The 1950s was a time when American life seemed to be in an ideal model for what family should be. People were portrayed as being happy and content with their lives by the meadia. Women and children were seen as being kind and courteous to the other members of society while when the day ended they were all there to support the man of the house. All of this was just a mirage for what was happening under the surface in the minds of everyone during that time as seen through the women, children, and men of this time struggled to fit into the mold that society had made for them.
“Women’s roles were constantly changing and have not stopped still to this day.” In the early 1900s many people expected women to be stay at home moms and let the husbands support them. But this all changes in the 1920s, women got the right to vote and began working from the result of work they have done in the war. Altogether in the 1920s women's roles have changed drastically.
Women were only second-class citizens. They were supposed to stay home cook, clean, achieve motherhood and please their husbands. The constitution did not allow women to vote until the 19th amendment in 1971 due to gender discrimination. Deeper in the chapter it discusses the glass ceiling. Women by law have equal opportunities, but most business owners, which are men, will not even take them serious. Women also encounter sexual harassment and some men expect them to do certain things in order for them to succeed in that particular workplace. The society did not allow women to pursue a real education or get a real job. Women have always been the submissive person by default, and men have always been the stronger one, and the protector. Since the dawn of time, the world has seen a woman as a trophy for a man’s arm and a sexual desire for a man’s
I agree with the author that society does view women as the weaker sex. I also believe that it is true that some of the more athletic woman today are not always viewed as being as beautiful as the skinny models in the magazines. However, I don’t agree with her thoughts regarding women being possessions and how she thinks women’s bodies are symbols of men’s status. That could very well be true in other cultures, as she does state in her essay that there are many cultural differences. But for myself, growing up in the environment that I did, that is not something that I had ever really heard about or was witness to.
Then it goes on to say how men back in the 1960’s really didn’t take care of their children than women did all the work. The women went up to the schools to meet with the teacher if the kid got out of line the women did all the laundry and made all the dinners. They were trying to get women to stop working and just stay home and deal with the kids and the household chores instead of making money to help feed the family. In the 1960’s some men did not like the fact that their wife was working, they did not like seeing their women rise to the top or even be successful. Back then women had to double burden that means having to work and take care of the kids. This was a lot of stress on the women’s body and made them tired. Also the women couldn’t have a job that had to do with a lot of thinking so they had to take a less paying job so that the husbands could have the high paying job so that they could be head of the household. Women played a big part in the household but really did not get to much appreciation for working in the
Men have dominated the workforce for most of civilization up until their patriotic duties called away to war. All of a sudden, the women were responsible for providing for their family while the men were away. Women went to work all over America to earn an income to insure their family’s survival. Women took all sorts of jobs including assembly line positions, office jobs, and even playing professional baseball. When the men returned home from war, the women were expected to resume their place as housewives. The women who had gotten a taste of the professional life decided that they wanted to continue working. Thus, the introduction to women in a man’s working environment began. Women were not taken seriously at first, because they were stepping into a “man’s world”.
In the past, many people believed that women’s exclusive responsibilities were to serve their husband, to be great mothers and to be the perfect wives. Those people considered women to be more appropriate for homemaking rather than to be involved in business or politics. This meant that women were not allowed to have a job, to own property or to enjoy the same major rights as men. The world is changing and so is the role of women in society. In today’s society, women have rights that they never had before and higher opportunities to succeed.
Women since then have been working and doing the same jobs a man but still are underpaid. I think that we as women have proof that we can get the job and just because man still feels inferior, we get underpaid. One factor imapcts more than the other. In this case the factor that man and women do the same job but still get paid less overcomes the factor that women are hard workers. To that is the main reason why such phenomenon as Feminization of poverty exists. If women were paid as much as men they would indeed have more income than men would. Because women work hard and there is lots of proof to that. Some women for example my aunt, she had to work two jobs to make as much income as my uncle. In one of her jobs that she worked she could be making around the same money as my uncle. She would not have to work two jobs but just because she is a women she has to work harder to make as much as my uncle and be able to provide for her family. I understand that our costumes in every culture are that women are housewives and take care of the children while man go out and work to provide for the family. However, time has change and those costumes are dying or maybe they are not dying because women work and women still get home and play the housewife paper. Maybe it is not like that in every family but it is in the majority. I also give credit to some men they have also filled in the shoes for women in some households, but still they do not struggle as much. I just think that women are expected to do so much and still are treated
they would have nothing to compare their strengths nothing to show that their strength is a strength. so without women to be here to make a man feel like he is a superhero or whatever they would be as women were then merely nothing to look down upon. so taking all theses things in consideration women are really what have changed the world and what really have been the motivators of the world that is coming and become. In a way, we are just the idea and the men are the voice but which one really matters the voice or idea. without an idea there would be no voice to speak upon but without no voice there would be nobody to listen
