Women In Power Essay

Through the entire history we saw how human beings were fighting for power and their rights. Men or women, they were looking for power. Some people wanted that power to use it in a wrong way, for example, slaving others or steal people’s belongings. Other wanted that power so they can be equal. People of color wanted that power to be equal with white people, in most cases, and women wanted that power so they can be equal to men. It was not an easy journey and as we can still see it today all the problems are not fix yet and so there’s still women out there, fighting constantly, so we can all be equal.
At first, women’s problem started with the fact that they were not able to vote like men. They had no voice or right and they were not happy

with that, and so during 19th and 20th century, the first wave of feminism started. After years and years of fighting, women were finally allowed to vote, but then the World War I and II happened and so the 2nd wave of feminism started.
During world wars, since men were in war fields, women were the one that needed to go to work so they can provide their families, but when world wars ended, men came back and they wanted their job back.

It was in that moment that women said no, at least tried to say no, because they wanted to keep their jobs. They wanted to stay independent, because it was proven to them that they’re capable of taking care of themselves and also some of them didn’t wanted to just be housewives. They wanted to be professional too. They were living in a time that shopping was patriotic. As a result women needed to work too so the families could afford all those

shopping.
But the problem was not just and only about women’s right to work, they also wanted to have control over their own bodies. In those times, a lot of young women were dying due to having too many kids. Also taking care of babies was not that easy, there were so many responsibilities and also kids were expensive. And so result to that was, women start fighting for birth control and their right to use it.
For sure in that time, sex outside of marriage was a taboo, not because nobody ever had sex before or out side the marriage, but because of the fact that they knew it to be really bad and wrong, and so the first reaction to birth control was not really good, because people believed that women who wanted birth control, wanted that so they can have sex any time with anyone without getting pregnant.

While, the problem wasn’t that at all. They wanted birth control so they can have babies anytime that they’re ready with the person that they wanted too, or if that already had kids and they didn’t want more, but they were still young and so there was a chance of them getting pregnant again, they wanted to control and stop

that.
In the 2nd movement women were not fighting for the right to vote like the 1st movement, but they were fighting for the right to work and go to school and colleges in any field that they like, just like the first movement. Also the first movements for birth control started in the 1st wave, but it was way much more serious and successful in 2nd wave. One of the problem that women in 2nd movement fought for, while women from 1st wave didn’t, was the fact that women wanted to be paid equally as men and they also wanted to be able to work in a place that there was no sexual or any type of harassment. These women were more educated and also older so they were more mature and so they wanted to separate church and religion from politics, they also wanted to have marital privacy, so they can decide for their families and not the church. They wanted to be responsible for their own life and wanted to live it the way that they like.
All of those women fought so everyone could be equal, but the problem was they didn’t really knew what was going on in people of colors’ life and so they thought their problems are all the same. Also in some cases, like for education or birth control, or like LGBT community, they kind of sacrificed people of color so they can get what they wanted. For sure it wasn’t their intent to do that, in most cases, but some times, in big battles, people need to sacrifice some stuff to get what they want and unfortunately in most cases people of color are the ones who were put aside.
Today we can see that more women and men are feminist. They want everyone to be equal and have the same rights, because were all humans and we’re different just physically, but generally we are not, and so we should all have the same rights. Also we should not forget someone’s skin does not define anything about them other than which part of world they’re from. We should give everyone the same rights. We should focus on people of color’s problem more and tried to help them. There’s no doubt that there were some good changes, except Donald Trump trying to become a president, but other than that even though there is till some unfair stuff going on, people are getting better and more understandable. We just need to teach people more. Give them more information, ask them more about their problems, learn to be better listener, and tried our best to change the world in the way that we can. I always believed that we need to start from ourselves first if we want to see a change. Instead of trying to change the world, if we could just change ourselves, for sure the world would change as well.
