I never knew what an input device was, but writing this paper has taught me more about my smartphone and the options it has. I also never knew how many options a keyboard has. The future of input device is really shocking to me. The technology they are coming up with is probably things I will never use, but maybe someday one of my patients may need an adaptive phone that I can help them with.

On the other hand, technologies such as cell phones have become a problem in getting students to focus in class and distracting drivers and thus, resulting in vehicle accidents. Technology is beneficial, but can also become an inescapable distraction in our lives. It is important to view technology as having the ability to make our lives better or worse, yet also as having the ability to change our personal lives and behavioral patterns. The use of technology makes our daily tasks easier, such as a better sense of direction while driving via a GPS, safety features in our cars such as Auto Drive and Auto Park.

Even as I sit here typing this paper, my own shiny, rectangular piece of molded plastic and metal lies inches away from my fingertips, beckoning me to use it. Looking out the window, one of the first sights I see are people walking with one hand up to their ear, evidence this technology is in use. I can count on one hand the number of adults I know who do not own one these mobile devices. People are now able to be virtually accessible almost anywhere at any time.

A strand of technology that has played a prominent role in this development is human communications and interface technology. The smart phone has proven to be the first fully embraced instance of this technology, allowing people to stay constantly connected with the internet and their friends wherever they may be. After exploring this technology in more detail and outlining its impact and our reliance on it, secondary technological advances will be explored. Such secondary advances make the progression of this strand of technology possible, with the innovation of virtual reality proving to only enhance the functionality of modern smart phones.
Technology has, since the primitive years, always been used to invent tools in order to solve problems. This would, in turn, simplify and make man’s life easier. Through advancements in the field, man has become more efficient on both the macro- and microscopic level. Anything nowadays can be attained with either the flip of a switch or a click of a mouse. One particular technology that came about in this time was the smartphone. Since 2008, the smartphone, a device that combines a normal cell phone with a computer, typically offering Internet access, data storage, e-mail capability, etc. all in your hand was deemed as ground-breaking technology and created one of the largest and most competitive market in terms of technology to date. Their increased popularity continued to grow and today, it is very hard to encounter someone without a smartphone. These devices allow people to disconnect from reality and grant them access to the world as a whole. People use these devices to manage their daily routine, dictating what they should do and when they should do it. The capabilities of this device had been unheard of before their time. However, is there more to this technology than what has been made aware to their owners? We have become overly obsessed with these devices that it has impacted our humanity – our interaction with others and society. Since its upbringing, the invention of the smartphone has come to negatively reinvent the way people go about their daily lives because we have become detached from society, let these smartphones govern our lives, and have become obsessed with these devices.
Cell phones are progressively becoming more accessible and reliable as days go by in such a way that creates a safer and protected environment around us. The many ways and situations one can use a cell phone is becoming more free and diverse than what phones were intentionally made for, that is, to communicate through speech. Cell phones have become an anytime, anywhere tool used for texting, taking pictures, recording videos, making video calls, saving files such as a presentation, and many other things such as listening to music or playing games (Ling 22).
Turkle makes the bold statement that, “Our little devices, the ones we keep in our pocket, are so psychologically powerful, that they don’t only change what we do they change who we are.” (Turkle). I agree that a lot of the things we catch ourselves doing on our mobile devices today would’ve been so un-thought of just a few years ago. We have the power to send e-mail and online shop during class and work and we th...
Consider the impact of digital technologies on your daily life. The cell phone is one of many digital devices that have drastically changed people’s lives in a level of connectivity and productivity. You probably use your phone throughout the day to communicate with friends and business associates, look up information on the Web, check your friends’ Facebook statuses, snap photos and post them online, send e-mails, plan your evening, play games, watch movies, and listen to music.
Every day of our lives, we watch as technology advances in leaps and bounds, so it was only logical when the cell phone came into existence, it would also be necessary to develop ways for a phone to be more than just a phone. With the explosion of the internet age people needed a way to bring their computers on the go, one that could fit in the palm of their hand. Whether it be checking emails, updating social networks or even playing games, smartphones seem to do it all. There is, however, a dark side to every technological advance that is made, to everything that makes our lives more convenient. Smartphones are not only an enormous distraction in our lives but are also known to cause health problems in those
While taking a typing course in high school, the hardest part was remembering where each key was. I could never figure out why the typewriter keys were set up in the order they were, but once I learned the various keystrokes, it became second nature to type. Although, I still have trouble with some of the keys on the top row, such as numbers and symbols. This is probably because they aren't used as much as the others. Another difficult part was remembering to hit the return key when I wanted to go to the next line. Setting the tabs and margins properly could also be quite trying. Never in my wildest imagination could I have envisioned a typewriter that could wrap-around to the next line, automatically set margins, and even tell you when words are misspelled or used improperly. Now I know that there is no limit to what computers will be able to accomplish in the future. It will only take imagination and determination to make them do whatever we want them to do.
