I hope that you had a relaxing and restful winter break! I will continue to supply you with reminders of the lessons and activities that will take place during Advisement; hopefully you find these reminders helpful rather than burdensome. This week is a very short week and you should use this time to become reacquainted with your Advisement students. I have listed topics for discussion for Wednesday-Friday, but if you have an alternate activity that you would like to do, please feel free to do that lesson instead. Wednesday: Allow students to tell you about their winter break. You may even want to share what your break was like. Thursday: Ask students if they have any questions about this semester. Have them write a reflection about
Finally, for homework I would assign the reading of excerpts of “Warriors Don’t Cry”, the memoir of Melba Pattillo Beals, one of the Little Rock Nine. I would ask the students to pretend that they were a student at Central High in 1957 and write a page long diary entry about what one would be seeing and how one would be feeling at this time. All of these activities would promote student-centered learning in that they are free to arrive at their conclusions independently, and they would help develop Formal Operational skills through hypothetical deductive logic.

My first year in the doctoral program challenged me with newfound learning in an exciting environment. I am so pleased I learned new concepts and principles about leadership. Amazingly, I retained the information better because the year involved practical work. I am grateful for the experience because I was introduced to skills applicable to my life. As I reflect on the years learning, I could not be more excited about what is to come next.
My sixteen week class in English 111. I was really nervous about this class. Because English has never been my strong point. This class has hard, but fun all at the same time. I learn a lot from this class. Meanwhile,the first day of class you handed a paper with a question on it. “The first thing I want to say to you who are students is that you must not think of being here to receive an education; instead, you will do much better to think of being here to claim one.” Even though putting my all in what I have learned, claiming my education with hard work because using the skills of the meal plan, as we write to different audiences and learning to be a Critically thinker as I start becoming a critically-Literate Citizenship.
Orientation, introduction, moving in classes, fraternity exams midterm finals, all flying by with the roar of drag car screaming past you on the side. That is how this past semester has felt like. So far everything has been a blur, "tunnel visioned" towards the end that is now wider as I start to comprehend all of the emotions and information from this past semester. Sitting here in front of my computer finishing on of the last essays I will write this semester about the thing that I have done this semester. Tired, hungry and wanting to go home have been the reoccurring themes so far in my college career.
There is not much to do during spring break in Smallville except for going out and making your own fun. Now what I mean by that is you can have good fun. For example, you can go bowling, have a party or just chill out with your friends. Then there is bad fun. For example, go egging or buy paintball guns and shoot stuff. My friends and I decided to have bad fun for spring break. When we first started egging it was only six of us. Earl, David, Charles, Brandon, Jerrid, and myself. As the first couple of days went by we realized that other people in the city was starting to form teams of their own to get us back for egging them. Let me tell you a little bit about my crew. Earl is my right hand man. He was giving the nickname cruel intentions for a reason. David is my best friend. He is a cool, laid back type of guy. Charles is my cousin. If u see David, Charles, and I at once people would think we was all brothers. Charles can be quiet sometimes but he also has a wild side to him. Brandon is my other cousin. He is the live wire out of the bunch. Brandon is pretty much ready for anything. If its fun he will join. Jerrid says one word about once every ten minutes. But his action speak louder than words. And then there is me. I go by the name Marcus. Some of my friends in Springfield call me Marc-d or mc. I am a quiet, laid back, live wire type of guy.

This essay will explore the authors meaning of reflection, how various reflective styles can benefit the practitioners within their settings, and how important reflection is within Early Years Practice. According to Appleby (2010, p.10), reflection is a generic term which describes various behaviours involving feelings, and thinking about thoughts and experiences, in order to examine issues and develop, new understandings and insights. I have learned many valuable things in contemporary American culture, and this class has enabled me to view our world in a different light. I now know that advertisements try to make me believe they can sell me love and happiness. I now understand that a simpler life can bring me far greater joy than any item I buy in a store. Americans should not be ignorant to factors that affect their daily lives. Over the Thanksgiving holiday break I thought about what was really important in my life surrounded by friends and family, and I truly believe that nothing else in this world could compare with my relationship with my family.
Additionally, on Wednesday, I am a mentor for my third grade buddy! Two weeks ago, we began the year with the annual Ice Cream Social at the students’ schools. This social is exciting because the students and mentors are able to meet for the first time or are able to reunite if the students are returners. The mentors have the chance to meet the guardians or family members of the students as well! As a general manager, I had the chance to meet all 15 of the students who will be in my buddy family on Mondays. Also, I took the time to introduce myself to all of the students’ guardians and learn something about each student! As a mentor, I was so excited to be reunited with my little buddy and talk with his parents again! It was unbelievable to see how much he had changed and we were so excited to see each other! We were pen pals over the summer, but we stopped writing a few months ago. My little buddy and I talked about the following: activities that we were excited for, his favorite activities from the previous year, how his summer went, his interests, and his least favorite activities from the previous
We will be discussing my educational journey that talks about my endeavors as me being a student, and I’ll be writing my positive road of how my experience was with middle school, elementary school and finally high school, also I will be talking more about how I got inspired to be a great student and set a good example to my colleagues, after that I’ll be talking more about my current English level in college, and how I was picked into that class, and what are the reasons that made me join the college of MSJC, additionally I’ll be going to delve more into my choice in life, or what do I need to do by going to a higher education, whether it’s long term or short-term , and finally why I chose to join this course.
As an adult learner who was formally an early elementary teacher, my least favorite time of year is the week before school starts back for the new school year. The first week of school is always a rush and a buzz of excitement and nerves. However, it is the week leading up to that first week, that for me, as an educator was a week I dreaded to see. The concept that we discussed throughout the semester that was most surprising to me was that of meditation. Coming into this class, I had a biased view of meditation. As a senior in high school, one of my teachers used to make us meditate every Friday for an hour during her class. As seniors, stressed about college applications and lack of sleep, we all thought that this was the perfect opportunity to take a nap during the school day. From my experiences with meditation in that class, I really didn’t believe that meditation was helpful in any way or served a purpose. After taking this class, however, I now understand that meditation is more than just sitting in one position for long periods of time.
