Winning Isn't The Most Important Thing
Vince Lombardi's famous saying “Winning isn't the most important thing.
It's the only thing” is unfortunately the motto of too many athletes today.
Although winning is important and sports are, and should be taken seriously, by far, winning isn't the only thing. Putting everything you have and giving one hundred percent to the effort is also very important to competition. A team that puts everything they have into a game and comes out the losers, has a lot more to be proud of than a team who comes in first but only gave some effort. Over the years many teams have lost important games due to a few inches, one pitch or a strike of “bad luck” although these teams lost, they take it into the ...
In all of sports history there have been a numerous amount of come from behind wins. This simply happens because the team that is ahead begins to relax and believes that they are going to win, while the team that is losing realizes that in their current situation they have
The championship game loss helps the audience, especially young adults with high, aspiring dreams, to understand, that even if you do work-hard and aren’t awarded with winning your goal, this isn’t the end of your journey. It only means you have to work harder in the future, if you want to succeed at your goal. This conclusion shows young children how to lose properly and how to be grateful for what they have, since being good a winning is a much easier task. For like a quote from Colin Powell, “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” The under-class, basketball players learned from the mistakes in the title game, so they could go farther and win next year’s championship, because failure should never be your excuse to not attempt something.
Sport was included in ancient educational systems because it was thought to promote aretê or human excellence which could be applied to almost any endeavor in life. The goal of most modern scholastic athletic programs might be better summed up in a word: winning. Is this a sign that we have lost touch with the age-old rationale for including sport in education? I argue that it need not be by showing that we value winning precisely for the virtues associated with it. I then take Plato's traditional parts of aretê: piety, sophrosunê, courage and justice and show how they are manifest in modern athletic ideals of self-knowledge, discipline, courage and justice. To the extent that scholastic athletic programs develop these virtues, I conclude, their pursuit of winning is not at odds with the institutional mission of educating students. If an athletic program's pursuit of victory allows such character-building to fall by the wayside, however, it deserves no place in our high schools, colleges or universities.
There are many sports out there in the world that people as I, love and have passion for. Many don’t like getting hurt while participating in a physical sport neither does me but if you love it nothing else will matter. Yes, they will lead you to pain and even broken bones but that also won’t stop you from getting up. I know one thing, playing a sport will make you strong from the inside and the outside, such as soccer does for me.
half the time and is still passed. The money that is spent on the NFL
Did the match strikes deliver the success that those involved in them had hoped for?
The pounding sound of cleats on the hard grass covered turf. Feeling the air whistling past as numbers and colors rush by. Bodies racing for one thing, the ball. Soccer is an activity that brings me so much joy and pleasure while still pushing my body to it’s limit.
Think of society as a living organism which every part of it contributes to its survival. This view is the functionalist perspective, which every parts of a society are structured to maintain its stability. Functionalist regard sports as an almost religious institution that uses ritual and ceremony to reinforce the common values of a society.
The exhaustion you feel after finally crossing the finish line at a marathon is like nothing you have felt before. You are completely drained physically, mentally, and emotionally. Your legs hurt to the bone, at the same time you are gasping for air while your throat screams for moisture. All of this is a small price to pay for the overwhelming feeling of self pride and accomplishment you are overcome with. Running the marathon is only half of the process. Training is very important with steps such as finding motivation, diet, safety, stretching, and last preparations the day of the marathon. With many physical, mental, and social benefits the hardship is well worth it. I greatly enjoy running and hope to one day run a full marathon.
I started playing soccer when I was 12 which is an older age to start playing competitively. In doing so it threw me out of my comfort zone by having me learn a sport with people I didn’t know, but it taught me about hard work, commitment and how to be apart of a team. Throughout the years, it was hard work that got me to be one of the better players on the team and captain. It was not just skill that I learned, it was how to be a good leader and what it means to be apart of a team. It also taught me the importance of perseverance and hard work.
In this assignment we as class were asked to look into the early windows with a focus starting with version 3.1 and workgroup for windows (WfW). I would like to start from the version 1.0 though I agree that in today’s terms version 1.0 would be considered an alpha release and 2.0 would be the beta though according to “Microsoft Windows History”, (2014) both were sold initially to the retail market at the price of $100 (the equivalent to $221.32, in value today) both versions introduced several features that had not been thought of due to the Command Line Interfaces (CLI) such as DOS and MS-DOS being used at the time until the Operating System appeared in late 1985 offering an easier Graphical User Interface (GUI) to users incorporating “windows” which gave the operating system its name (A history of Windows - Microsoft Windows,2013, p. 1982-1985).
An interest that brings me joy is soccer. I consider it to be my main sport because I have spent a lot of time playing the sport. I like playing soccer because it is also very dynamic and is a sport that is fast-paced. I play for the California Magic Soccer Club, which is a competitive soccer club. Our team practices for about two hours, three days a week. We also have games on the weekends. Soccer brings me a lot of joy because I get to play with a team and play against other opponents. Playing soccer with a team is enjoyable because I get to play with others that also love soccer. It is fun competing against my teammates in scrimmages and different drills. Playing at a competitive level in soccer is fun as the stakes are higher and there
Growing up I was always a kid who loved to be outside and loved to play. I also had parents that loved to play sports and compete. So, with this being said it obvious that I was going to play sports because that what they did with my sister who was 3 years older than me. So when it came time for me to walk I slowly began to run and when that happened is when I got my first ball and loved it. Once I turned five I had already joined a baseball league that was near me to play tee-ball with my dad as the coach and unlike all of the other kids my dad had already worked with me and I knew how to throw and catch a baseball. At this young age most, kids are just playing for fun and trying to see if they like the sport but oh no was this different for me I already knew that I loved it because I could pick it up so easily at such a young age. When it came time to the games it wasn’t anything like what I thought it was going to be because I was the only one out there that was trying and since I was so young I didn’t know why I was the only one out there trying to make plays. Because the whole game I was out there running for every ball and trying to
Listen I have nothing against soccer but i just hate sports in general. And I am not really into that stuff. But I still have to write an essay about it, but hey it's still a grade. And to be honest with you my mind just wanders off when I watch sports. And some people say it's simple, but it’s not simple to me. And to get all the equipment you need you have to spend money and I rather spend my money on Video Games. And I also don’t like to run around a lot. There are also many rules in soccer.
My parents haven't let a day pass without stressing to me the importance of education. I have thought about it many times I have always tried to push myself to become the best person that I could become. By maximizing my goals to substantial limit. I have been given the steps to claim the ladder of success through the leadership learn on the football field. The values of hard work and deferential earned through my current academic endeavor, and setting future academic plans.
