4.1 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY:
As we all know that the wine industry is one of the oldest industries in the world. Now days there are many countries that are producing wines like:
(a) Old world wine producers ( France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Hungary, Romania)
(b) New world wine producers ( USA, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, S Africa)
The objectives of the studies are as follows;
(1) Primary Objective: The wine market is very saturated and is a very successful high status symbol in the society. Despite the high profile of many international wine luxury brands, little is known about the processes by which these brands are created and maintained the main objective of the study is to understand the marketing practices in the wines industries/wineries and how these wine industries/wineries develop the brand equity of premium luxury wine brands.
(2) Secondary Objective: Brand awareness, brand positioning, brand image, brand association, brand perceived quality are one of the most important tool marketing. The secondary objective is to know how these industries/wineries apply their marketing and what their strategies are in order to make a wine brand successful.
4.2 RESEARCH DESIGN:
4.2.1 TYPE OF RESEARCH:
Exploratory/Qualitative research approach is used in this study. Exploratory/Qualitative research approach is to investigate the point of view of organization, wineries/ wine companies, restaurants, government agencies, and consultant.
There are various research methods that already been discussed in the methodology of research techniques. This dissection required mostly qualitative method to meet its objectives.

Limitation of time is also the biggest challenge for me to do the study.
It is not possible for me to collect primary data, because Lucknow is not the main source of collection the primary data. Doing this study in metro cities would be the better advantage in completing the study.
Another limitation of the study is India is not a wine producing country of premium wines; countries like France, Australia, Germany, Italy, S-Africa…etc would be the better source of collecting data, where the premium wine belongs.
To understand & continue study the material provided in the books are not sufficient enough.
Collecting various secondaries information regarding to topic: “Building brand equity of premium wine brands” is not easily awailable.
More practical & professional knowledge in wines needed to do this study.
Economic returns in the global market place have been influenced by trends in wine consumption. Figure 2 shows a trend of decreasing wine consumption from 2007 - 2011 in most old world countries while new world countries were increasing their consumption. This is due to the diversification of alcoholic beverages in the old world countries and the growing wine popularity in the new world

1. The industry structure in the Old World is significantly different than the New World. First, the Old World has a very low concentration ratio, while the diversity of competitors is high. Along with other factors the Old Worlds industry rivalry is very high. In contrast the industry rivalry is relatively low because of the extremely high concentration ratio and the low diversity of competitors. The New World is made up of large publicly held firms in comparison to the small private owned vineyards in the Old World that historically have produced for their own consumption. Another difference is between the suppliers in both industries. The suppliers in the Old World are one in the same with the producers because most wine producers are able to purchase their own land for grape production because of the low cost of land and low cost of labor. The producers in the New World either have to spend large sums to purchase land and hire out expensive harvesters or they have outsourced their grapes from other farms. Most producers in the New World tend to rely on outsourcing their grapes giving their suppliers a lot of power because of the necessity of grapes for the end product. The threat of entry in the Old World is relatively high in comparison to extremely high capital requirements in the New world making threat of entry low. Finally, the main difference between the industries of the New World and the Old World is the wine producers mandated distribution system. The Old World has few restraints and tends to distribute their products to off premise retailers throughout Europe and even abroad. Brown-Forman Corporation is one of the largest American companies in the wind and spirits industry, Fetzer Vineyards is their largest winemaker. Revenue and gross profit for the beverage segment of Brown-Forman were up 11% and 14%, respectively, in fiscal 2004. However, the growth was driven by the premium spirits brands, and the gross profit from the company’s wine brands declined due to a drop in volume for both Fetzer and Bolla wines. There are many symptoms for why this decline has occurred. Health consciousness is a rising trend among Americans of all ages and the latest crazes are the low-carbohydrate diets. Recently, Fetzer has introduced into the market two new low-carbohydrate wines, a chardonnay and a merlot. Their premium spirits brands have not been affected by the new diets because bourbon, whiskey, rum, gin, and vodka all contain no carbohydrates. However, most mixers used to accompany these spirits usually contain a significant amount of carbohydrates. Introducing these new wines could offer a new choice, but not a substitute, for many dieters and at the same time give Brown-Forman the lead in this new market.
