In Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, Willy Loman is delusional and absent due to the fact that he is trapped between the past and present. He is consistently experiencing flashbacks to his younger days, where he had a steady job, happy family, and stress less days. As the play progresses we learn that not only Willy was an absent father, but his father, who remains nameless, was as well. After Willy's suicide, the problem of the absent father is resolved because Willy is able to do more for his family after this death than during his life time.

Willy's suicide allowed him to provide a better life for his son, Biff. While thinking about his suicide plan Willy says;

WILLY. Ben, he'll worship me for it! … Can you imagine that magnificence
