On an excruciatingly hot summer day of 2016, my softball team was headed to the “Willoughby Starzz Tournament” Championship game. The day had consisted of three prior games, which included a semi-final game which Kendall did not play in. While walking out of the dugout our team felt the tension and could see Kendall’s mom, Kathy, jump up to confront our coach. Quickly, she got up in his face and started yelling. Trying to calm her down, Coach Mike Starkey said, “can we please discuss this calmly after our game?” However, Kathy had her own plan in mind. She followed him to the next field yelling and screaming about how her daughter deserved to play. At this point, our coach became angry and told her that she was wrong for yelling at him like

I have always loved sports and the competitiveness that comes along with them. In so doing, I have decided to eventually become either a high school or college coach at some point in my life. Subsequently, I decided to interview the Vilonia High School Cross Country Coach, Coach Sisson. As I walked into her office, I instantly noticed all of the trophies and team photos from all of the past years of coaching. She is also the school nurse so her office has first aid equipment intermingled into the trophies and team pictures. While I set up my notes and questions for the interview on one of the desks in her office, she was finishing up a diagnosis of one of the high school students who felt sick. After her patient left, I quickly started the interview in order to waste no time. She began with how she got involved in coaching. The Vilonia School District expressed their interest to her as being the next cross country coach several years ago. She was widely known for her passion for running and she gratefully accepted the position and has been a coach for numerous years now.
As an athletic trainer my job and duty is to protect and treat the athletes. Make sure they are safe to play in the games preventing injury and if injury occurs to help them heal and keep back to the sport. If an athlete came and told me and said that, we would sit down together and talk about all the consequences that can occur from what he did in the past and how it can and will affect him now. Just because it was in the past doesn’t mean there aren’t still consequences. In this instance I can see two decisions, tell the coach or not tell the coach. If I tell the coach it could cost them the chance of winning state and the...
She continued to belittle me to support her reasons as to why she had left me off the varsity roster. It was hard for me to comprehend her behavior because I would practice with the varsity team, fill in for injured players during practice, and I was included in all varsity group chats and I received all the varsity text messages. When my parents would ask what my role was on the team, my coach made it clear by saying, “she is not on varsity!”. I did not understand why my coach took such pleasure at chipping away at my self-esteem. I began to have doubts about my ability to perform and lost focus on what my role should be on the team.
The importance of softball in my life goes unnoticed by others, but I owe everything I am to this sport. I am an organized, cooperative woman who does not let failures affect my work ethic. Although my friends and family do not give my softball career much credit, I am confident that the lessons I’ve taken away from this sport have proficiently prepared me to step up to the plate and score a successful
From its initial existence R&D and innovative products had been the lifeline of CGC. When Callaway bought into the company his first initiative was to develop original products. Innovation and superior performing products are important in golf because equipment is thought to have a significant impact on player performance. Moreover, innovation was important because CGC had to be the technological leader to sell its products at premium price and continue to exceed customer expectations. The industry was also characterized as being driven by new product development because manufacturers were trying to bet each other to the next "best club" so CGC had to manufacture products that were differentiated from its own existing products as well as those of its competitors.
As Paige and I walked across the field towards our team I felt euphoric. Four long years of work, sweat, and dedication had led up to this night. It was the perfect end to my senior year of softball. The scoreboard just beyond the mass of sweaty, screaming softball players read 15-0. This was the final score of the district championship game, a game my team had never won before. The applause and cheers of the fans echoed in my ears for hours afterward
High school coaches been sworn at called names and physically threatened by parents before, during, and after the games. Playing time is often at the root of the problem though sometimes a parent is outraged that their son or daughter isn’t being played at what the parent thinks is their child’s best position (Nolan). In addition, equal playing time is important because it developed every player skills.(Nicole). Take, for instance, the case of a young player who has never played for a club before. He’s 11 and charges around the place without being able to control the ball or kick. Many of his teammates didn’t think he should play for their team but the coach has been working with him and one day he wanted to let him play and believe it or not he did very well for his first game that he even made a goal for the team (David). The best thing to do whenever you’re in a sport is that the coaches
The Akron Racers are social agents combating the gender based inequalities, and the players are pioneers for advocating a much needed cultural shift in the institutional structure of softball. A large portion of eliminating these stereotypes and preconceptions surrounding softball will be changing the way we transform the children’s foundation of sport (Rauscher and Cooky, 2015; Buning, 2015). Rauscher and Cooky argue the cultural shift will only occur if adolescents develop leadership through an empowering and protective setting (Rauscher and Cooky, 2015). For example, Messner highlights that the “gender regimes of children’s sports may be increasingly challenged”, when post Title-IX women and, “heroic female athletes become more a part of the cultural landscape for children, (Dworkin and Messner 1999)” (Messner, 2015). In addition, Heaphy’s solution to combating the inequalities has high correlation with Rauscher and Messner’s ideology regarding a cultural shift through social agents (i.e. the Akron Racers) that empower children. The documentary displays the Akron Racers are activists towards the cultural shift of softball because, during
Golf. A sport that started out with just a wooden stick and ball, is now a very well know game by many people all around the globe. The sport that also just started out as a way to mess around has become a job for some of the people and is making some golfers millions of dollars each year. A sport that many people spend their whole lives playing or watching used to not be exactly what is today. Even though golf is a very well known sport now, golf has been around for hundreds of years and is played by people all over the world. The sport of golf has been dated all the way back to years before 1,000 and has kept growing exponentially ever since. According to the International Golf Federation, they have 144 different countries a part of the organization, leaving out 51. The game of golf is played at many different levels all the way from junior tournaments, all the way to professional events. The evolution of the sport of golf is made up of a couple main things. These two main things are how golf got its start, and what has changed about the game.
Everyone agrees that parent involvement is a good thing. But when the parent behaves inappropriately, it creates a poor environment for the children to learn and enjoy themselves. "Sideline rage" with parents behaving badly at youth sports events is such an epidemic, that 76% of respondents from 60 high school athletic associations said increased spectator interference is causing many officials to quit (Associated Press, 6/3/01). Parents are supposed to be role models, and the lessons they teach will determine their values and actions in the future. These days violence in children's sports is not limited to the playing field; overbearing parents are creating dangerous situations on the field.
Remember the days where the kids used to holler and run in the park, and swing in playgrounds on nice summer afternoons while the parents sat on benches. Maybe they had a soccer lesson after and played a basketball match with friends at YMCA. But today, kids run with sports gear to tournaments conducted by "elite" Little Leagues, while the parents who drove all over town to find the stadium settle down into the bleachers ready to observe every move their kid makes in the game. And of course, they share their complaints to other fellow parents about the coach, who is getting paid half of their paycheck. After a gruesome match on a field that is way too big for the kids, the parents provide some Greek Yogurt and ample of suggestions on how to
In sports today, the stakes of a game are higher than ever. This causes all those invested in the sport to become on edge. Although this may cause some beneficial effects in the game, there are still a few downsides to it. One such downside would be the bullying of athletes from their very own coaches. That’s right, the intensity of sports causes some coaches to take drastic measures to make their chances of winning greater, even if said measures are detrimental to the confidence and mentality of their players.
In the second year of business at Golf Challenge Corporation the company is struggling. The cost of their inventory is rising, and they are in grave danger of losing their bank loan (their prime source of financing) due to not meeting the required financial ratios agreed and set forth by the bank at the time the loan was given. The owner comes up with a solution, and figures that instead of using Last in-First out (LIFO) the company can use First in-First Out inventory cost system (FIFO) and meet their required financial ratios set forth by the bank. Ultimately, Golf Challenge Corporation should not submit documents to the bank using FIFO as opposed to their previous system LIFO in order to meet the bank requirements
