A child’s destiny crucially and heavily relies on the parental figures in their lives. Without such beacons of authority children in these broken homes easily feel partial, mislaid and typically turn out to be errant. The novel “Father Cry” by William Wilson, beautifully covers both the ideas of spiritual parental figures and physical parental figures. Analyzing several different subjects such as heartbreak, love, hope and many more, this book is able to holistically cover the general subject of parenthood. This is an amazing book with many things that one can learn from. Many ideas and topics in this book opened my eyes, pushing me to the verge of tears in some parts. That being said, one subject in particular that most impacted me was the
necessity and vitalness of spiritual sons and daughters. Prior to reading this book, I knew not about the role one had as a spiritual son or daughter. Especially since I was mindful of the important position that spiritual fathers and mothers held in fostering a youthful generation of God fearing, spiritual powerhouses, I was astonished and somewhat caught off guard by how important it was to be a spiritual child. The more I read this book, the more I was able to see that both parties in a spiritual family must work together, fulfilling their individual roles for the relationship, as a whole, to work; there needs to be a one to one dynamic between both parties, where one adequately benefits the other. That being said, not everyone is, at the moment, ready to be a spiritual child and although one can develop what it takes, not everyone currently has the right inventory to be a spiritual child. There are, in fact, several prerequisites that were mentioned that should be met before one can truly be considered a spiritual child. Since I know that I have infinite room for improvement as a Christian, these ideas really push me to develop my spiritually day by day. to become a child that is steadfast to the cause, that is teachable, and that is ardent to my master. In the eyes of our Lord God Almighty, it is very important for one to foster an intergenerational relationship with a spiritual elder. Moreover, after reading “Father Cry” my consciousness of my role as a spiritual child has been made crystal clear, I know what I need to do in order to receive the baton that is passed on to me for Gods work on this earth.
In the short story The Father by Hugh Garner there is boy who’s father is not involved in his life. This is mostly because he is always drunk. Because of this Johnny, the father’s son, has not really been able to connect with his father. He is never there for Johnny when he needs him and is always embarrassing him. This made me really sad as I cannot imagine living without a loving father. I do not think that anyone should have to live without the care of their father. I can only imagine how sad that Johnny must have felt to not have a good father in his life. It must have been very hard for Johnny to see all of the other scout and their father’s at the banquet, knowing that he would never have a good father-son relationship with his dad. The fact that he did not feel comfortable asking his dad to come to the scouts banquet himself,
In Father Cry Dr. Billy Wilson through his personal testimony explains the importance of spiritual fathers and mothers in a Christians life. He gives examples from his life and the bible of how this relationship is so vital to the walk of a Christian. He expresses the importance of being obedient and excepting correcting from a spiritual father or mother. Another thing that is outline in the book is how we can see God as our father. For some it may be very hard to see God in a positive light when think of him as a father, because of the example their earthly father is. The importance of authentic forgiveness it outlined in this book. It is also very important to realize that people on earth make mistakes and are
Family is a strong bond that cannot be broken. In the “Key to My Father”, by Harlen Coban, the main character developes a mental picture of his father being unhip, unfit, and does what he can to provide to his family. Marc sees his father as a hardworking man that believes family comes first, but realizes that his father is unhappy. Marc seeks for clues in which he trys to find evidence to develop emotions toward his father by being proud, curious, and sad toward him.
No father is perfect. Every father has his own strengths and weaknesses. Each father shows his love for his children in different ways and at times, well hidden, at other times, obvious. In Chaim Potok’s thought-provoking book, The Chosen, three fathers named David Malter, Reb Saunders, and Roger Merrit appear in the story. Each one of them shows the striking differences among the ways they raise their children. Just because one father’s way of rearing up a child seems different from another’s does not necessarily mean it is wrong. In their own unique ways, all three fathers show the importance of fulfilling the role as a father.
Although single parenthood is on the rise in homes today, children still often have a father role in their life. It does not matter who the part is filled by: a father, uncle, older brother, grandfather, etc...; in almost all cases, those relationships between the father (figure) and child have lasting impacts on the youth the rest of their lives. In “I Wanted to Share My Father’s World,” Jimmy Carter tells the audience no matter the situation with a father, hold onto every moment.
The following is a short poem written by August Wilson in the beginning of his play, Fences. “When the sins of our fathers visit us/ We do not have to play host/ We can banish them with forgiveness/ As God, in His Largeness and Laws” (Wilson 1.1.1186). Throughout the text of the play, the relationship between father and son is a recurring topic and important theme. Wilson uses the father-son dynamic to reveal much about his characters in Fences. While, Troy’s inability to forgive his father for making his childhood so difficult shapes him into the father he became, Cory is able to forgive his father and accept the way things are. Lyons is destined to follow in Troy’s footsteps until he learns to forgive.
This is a book that tells the important story about the social significance and long-standing implications of fatherless families from a seldom heard point of view. The male siblings are linked by their struggles achieve peace with father and with the women in their lives as they move from adolescence adulthood. This text is filled with rich characterization and visual imagery.
A father can play many roles throughout a child’s life: a caregiver, friend, supporter, coach, protector, provider, companion, and so much more. In many situations, a father takes part in a very active position when it comes to being a positive role model who contributes to the overall well-being of the child. Such is the case for the father in the poem “Those Winter Sundays” by Robert Hayden. In this poem, readers are shown the discreet ways in which a father can love his child. On the other hand, there are also many unfortunate situations where the fathers of children are absent, or fail to treat the children with the love and respect that they undoubtedly deserve. In the contrasting poem “Like Riding a Bicycle” by George Bilgere, readers are shown how a son who was mistreated by his drunken father is affected by their past relationship many years later. Although both of these poems have fairly similar themes and literary techniques, they each focus on contradicting situations based on the various roles a father can play in a child’s life.
There is a special bond between parents and children, but there is always uncertainty, whether it’s with the parents having to let go or the children, now adults, reminiscing on the times they had with their parents. The poem “To a Daughter Leaving Home” by Linda Pastan is a very emotional poem about what you can assume: a daughter leaving home. Then the poem “Alzheimer 's" by Kelly Cherry is about the poet’s father, a former professional musician who develops the disease. These are only two examples that show the ambivalence between the parents and the children.
Cognitive development is where children start to become aware of their surroundings and become familiar with different things. Cognitive development plays enormous roles in a child’s growth into adulthood. In the story, Crews mentions that his first memory was around ten years before he was born, and the memory takes place where he has never been and involves his daddy who he never knew. One of the most important stages of cognitive development is sensorimotor stage. During the sensorimotor stage, children are only aware of the things they see, do, and the physical interactions with their immediate surroundings. Also, according the “The Role of the Father in Child Development”, it suggests the father-child separation period starts at the early age of nine months. Although the narrator was only 18 months old when his father died; he was still unable to make that immediate connection that a child needs from his father. Crews started a quest to find his father’s love; however, he never got a chance to complete. According to “The Role of the Father in Child Development”, the presence of a male model other than a father (e.g. an older brother) may inhibit the negative effects of a father’s absence Biller (1968, 1971a) argues that the father is a superior role model. All fathers are held to a superior role in every child’s life. Fathers are often the superhero that a little boy would like to be. The author always yearned for that superior male figure in his life. Crews’ father lived a life which consisted of drinking, fighting, working long hours, and influencing others to live the same lifestyle. The writer began to question the choices that his father made after he was convicted of his transgressions. Because of the actions of his father, Crews questioned what an ideal father should be and how it impacted his life in a negative
Parents are the first contact and relationship and play an essential role on the child’s development. Their actions and demeanor have a heavy impact on the way their offspring will relate to others, and develop future relationships. In the poem “Elegy of My Father, Who Is Not Dead” Hudgins analyzes and interprets the relationship he has with his father throughout an elegy. He uses this as a way to revisit his faith and the connection it has to his father.
The afternoon was slowly fading into the evening and I had gone the whole day without the figure of my aspiration, my father. I impatiently paced the floor in front of the door like a stalking cat waiting to pounce on its prey. The thoughts of wrestling my father and hear those words of affirmation, “You got me! Mercy! I give up!” filled my head. My father was obviously faking it but there was something about his words that have such power over a young boys life. Mothers are sources of comfort and safety for a young boy but it is the father that defines the identity of a young boy, the father bestows manhood on the boy.
A father is someone who protects, loves, supports and raises his children, whether they are biologically related or not. Every single person living on the Earth has a biological father. These biological fathers are supposed to take the responsibility of being a father because they did help bring a child into this world. One of the main responsibilities of a father is providing the child with the necessities of life, which include food, shelter, and clothes. Not only is a father responsible for the physical aspect but the emotional aspect as well. Children need to feel loved, cared for, and emotional support from their parents. A child needs to be reassured, so a father must show his affection, both physically and emotionally. A father needs to be involved in his children’s life. He needs to be a problem solver, playmate, provider, preparer, and he has to have principles. A father has to pr...
