The reason the moon appears to change color is due to the reflection of visible light coming from the sun. Because the moon has no light of its own it relies on the reflected light of the sun to create moonlight and change color. The reflection of light coming from the sun cause’s the moon to appear as if it is changing color because as the sun’s light rays travel through
the earth’s atmosphere the moon catches light from the sun and reflects it down to earth. As the moon reflects the sun’s light rays down to earth, those rays of light travel through the earth’s atmosphere in the form of different wavelengths which then produce different colors of visible light. For example when the moon is low in the sky and close to the earth’s horizon, light from the sun has to pass through more of the earth’s atmosphere in comparison to when the moon is high in the sky or positioned directly overhead. When this happens, air molecules filter out short wavelengths of visible light such as green, blue, and purple and scatter’s them throughout the earth’s atmosphere. When the moon is high in the sky...
...nd violet wavelengths are the shortest, and violet is the least visible to the human eye. These wavelengths are scattered throughout the day and caused by a redirection of the light-waves direction due to gas molecules in the atmosphere (Mc Knight, p. 84). When the sun is setting towards the end of the day there are few blue wavelengths left and we see orange and red which are dominant and the longest wavelengths of visible light to the human eye. At the bottom of the photo (closest to the setting sun) red and orange are the dominant visible colors with the occasional blue and almost violet. If our eyes could not see orange and red our sunsets would be a dark blue or black.
This can be seen in the story right after the wild rumpus as it now day time once more in Max’s imaginary world. Because the moon is no longer floating in the sky he no longer feels the need to act out his animal instincts with the wild things. Not only does he start to act more human again, but he also begins to feel human emotion again as he becomes homesick and yearns for his mother’s love (Sendak). As he sails back home, the full moon can be seen again from the image of him on his boat in the ocean and outside of his bedroom window once he returns. However, this time around, the moon is noticeably less bright than when his journey initially began. The reason for the moon to be shown again in the ocean in a time when it does not seem as vital is that it is supposed to show Max’s transition back to reality. The point of this is that when Max returns to his bedroom, he comes back from his imagination within the same night, most likely only a brief moment after he initially left. This also further supports the theory of Max actually becoming a werewolf until the full moon, as his entire imagination, no matter how long he thought he perceived the time in it, only happens momentarily in reality, which hints that this was his dream state while being transformed. The fact the moon seems to start to dim helps to enforce his return, as he is also seen taking
War affects everyone involved - the conquerors and those being conquered. War is a struggle that is internal and external. Man can be a dedicated and loyal soldier for only so much at a time. He then longs for laughter, music, girls, a good meal and more. In The Moon is Down, the soldiers feel the need to return home. They begin to doubt what they are doing and if they are being told the truth. They become uneasy when the enemy doesn't talk to them. The townspeople's hatred is growing. They remained indoors and stared from behind curtains while the patrol walked through the town.
Before reading What the Moon Saw by Laura Resau, I would of described an immigrant as someone who came from a different country to the United States for employment, freedom, education, or in hopes of achieving the “American Dream.” To begin with, I believed that immigrants came to America from many parts of the world and shared physical features and fashion choices that are native to their nationality. Additionally, their health and fitness depends on the situation that they come from and the conditions they face during transportation to the United States. Similarly, the type of religion that they practice varies greatly on their beliefs and the place where they come from. The type of work that immigrants preform before they come to America
In the beginning of the creation of Earth volcanoes erupted all over the planet. During this period there was a time where a brief cooling period was allowed to take place. When this period took place evaporation caused a downpour of rain which flooded the ocean creating the ocean. At the time that ocean was averaged at 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Around this same time an asteroid so powerful hit the Earth knocking off a large chunk of it. This chunk became the moon which at the time was twice as close as it is today. The hitting of the planet Earth cause such a shake that many new undersea volcanoes began spewing forth molten rock and gasses. These gasses and other particles formed on the oceans surface and with the moon being so close were smashed together by strong and violent waves.
When the sun shoots in through the east window- I always watch for that first long, straight ray-it changes so quickly that I never quite believe it. That is why I watch it always. By moonlight- the moon shines in all night when there is a moon- I wouldn’t know it as the same paper. At night any kind of light, in twilight, candlelight, lamplight, and worst of all by moonlight, it becomes bars! The outside pattern I mean…” (Gilman 653).
The changes in color happen to objects first because they are often easier to change. It is harder to change a person’s personality than change an object. As people start to change color, they begin to understand that they have choices, and take full advantage of that. The transition of color from object to person is the point of no return for the town, as people finally unlock their true
There are five basic theories in the formation of our moon. The first is the "fission theory" which states that the moon was once a part of earth, but separated a long time ago. The second theory is called the "capture theory". This theory is says that the moon formed somewhere else, and was "captured" by earths gravitational pull. The third theory is called the "condensation theory" this theory states that the moon and earth were condemned together from the original nebula that formed our solar system. The fourth theory called the "Colliding Planetesimals Theory" states that the interaction between the earth orbiting the sun, and the sun orbiting planetesimals, which are large Astroid like rocks, led to the breakup and formation of our moon from the debris of these planetesimals. The fifth and final theory is called ...
The moon is a wondrous thing. Every night it's outside, up high in the sky, giving light to the world. Most people take advantage of the moon's light, because they don't know why or how the moon shines. Scientists today are busy proving theories and studying the moon, which will hopefully help society to understand the moon more. They know a lot about the moon, but there is still much more to learn.
There is an abundance of ways light and color can play tricks with how your body thinks. Color has an impact on everything. When you walk into a restaurant and instantly become hungry is one way that color has an influence. When you feel antsy in one room and calm in the other is another way that color has an effect, this is all because of the atmosphere of that room, which is altered by color.
Light is what lets you experience colour. The pigment of the retina in your eyes is sensitive to different lengths of light waves which allows you to see different colours. The wavelengths of light that humans can see are called the visible colour spectrum.
...e sun, this is of a longer wavelength and is absorbed by the atmosphere. The Earths atmosphere, thus acts like the glass of a green house, hence the 'greenhouse effect'.
The amount of water that is on earth at any one time remains fairly constant because the water is moving form one reservoir into another such as river to ocean or ocean to atmosphere. This cycle involves the exchange of energy causes a change in temperature. This is why when evaporation occurs, it takes energy from its surroundings and cools the environment. While condensation occurs energy is released and the surrounding environment becomes warmer. The atmosphere is a mixture of nitrogen, oxygen, and other gasses that surround the earth. The atmosphere is made up of five layers known as the troposphere, the stratosphere, the mesosphere, the thermosphere, and the exosphere. The troposphere is the lowest layer of the earth’s atmosphere; it is also where all weather on earth takes place. The stratosphere is the second layer of the atmosphere, right above the troposphere. Above the stratosphere is the mesosphere and above that is the troposphere. The uppermost region of earth’s atmosphere is the exosphere. The air in the exosphere is extremely thin and almost the same as space. One of the many reasons the earths atmosphere is important is because it blocks
The Earth's moon has a great deal of mystery and indefinite discoveries left for us to explore. One of the most talked about topics of the Moon is if we are going to be living there in just a few short decades or centuries. Just imagine yourself, for example, weighing 150 pounds on Earth. If you were to live on the Moon, you would feel like you only weigh 26 pounds. That is because the Moon's gravity is only 17% of Earth's gravity. You would float into the dark sky, and if you weren't attached to anything stationary, you would float off into outer space, and probably never return. No doubt that the Moon has been in existence for a long time, there are still many millions of years left for us to explore what the Moon has in store for us. The age of the moon is quite controversial. Scientists have studied the Moon to try to give it an approximate age. The youngest moon rock which scientists have studied was radioactive dated as 3.16 billion years old, while the oldest dated rocks were dated 4.6 billion years old, which also indicates that the Moon is the same age as the presumed aged of Earth (Gallant 117).
atmosphere. If there is more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere more rays from the sun are
