Why is Life Valuable?
You can ask anyone “Why is life valuable?” And the answer to that question would always be something different and in some cases, slightly the same. This is because everyone has a different perspective on life and their very definition of it depends on what they think is right. Whether it is wealth and fame, or love and happiness, my answer to the question is whatever you make of it.
Some people can value life by giving it purpose just as Mattie Stepanek did in “What Is The Value Of A Life?” an article by Lynne Soraya. Some people can value life by affecting others positively, Mattie said, “People tell me I inspire them. And that inspires me. It’s a beautiful circle, and we all go around together, with and for each other…” We can value life simply by assisting those in need and in turn receive the blessing of gratitude. When I was just 5 years old, I lived across an old woman’s home and one day she needed help unlocking her door because she had no key. I was small enough and able to crawl through her window in order to unlock her door. In the end she reward...
In Christy Wampole’s “How to Live Without Irony” and Richard Taylor’s “The Meaning of Human Existence” both authors argue how humans ought to live a meaningful life. Wampole tackles the argument in a different way than Taylor but they both have similar positions on the meaning. I agree with both authors in some of the ways that we should dictate our lives to justify meaningfulness but I also believe that meaningfulness can differ from person to person. Life is very precious to us; since humans have had the ability to consciously think, we have always questioning our existence. No other animal on the planet has had the luxury of pondering whether or not their life is meaningful.
“What is a human life worth?” will always be a question that I don’t quite know the answer to. No matter what you do, how you chose to value your life is entirely up you. Everyone lives life differently so the monetary value of a person will be different. Whether you believe all lives should be handled as equal or if you chose to invest in life insurance, you cannot find the true value of life when thinking of all those legalities. Happiness is what the value of life ultimately should be all
In conclusion, humankind is blessed with life as God created it. One must reflect on their actions throughout life because one will be judged by God in the next life, one must see the importance of gasping liberation, and one must have a loving and open heart when helping the poor. Life should be lived to its fullest because once time is lost, it cannot be regained; life needs to be appreciated.
... value ordering. Goldman says life does not hold value in itself; instead most individuals derive the meaning of life from their accomplishments and happiness to the point where individuals may even risk their health and lives to attain those. As established before about paternalism in a medical contest, it is only the patient’s true values that can be primary determinants of their futures.
The message to value more important things in order to have a wisely spent life is demonstrated very well through literary devices in “The Necklace”, by Guy de Maupassant. Madame undergoes an ironic moment in life as she learns what is worth valuing. She is a very greedy woman who only cares about herself. The reader would never think of her as the person to do work, but that thought changes as she misplaces what she thinks of as a valuable item. If Madame just learned how to live life in a way that will not make her upset and to value things that are valuable towards life instead of expenses, she will be better off. But this is how Madame views her life, while others take notice of the significance in their lives. Values are different towards people across the world, and Guy de Maupassant defines that in his short story, “The Necklace”.
The meaning of life will continuously be an apparent question for individuals. Once people find their reason to live, a human life is worth living; ultimately it is better for it to be lived than not lived (Matheson, Lecture 1). However, human beings have reason to believe in transcendent meaning of life. Fundamentally, transcendent meaning of life is life grounded outside of life, such as the supernatural or nonphysical. The meaning of life is vital for the reason being it allows human beings to appreciate life, even during the hardships. Recognizing possibilities as to what makes human life worthwhile can help those appreciate the value of life even more (Matheson, Lecture 1). American philosopher and professor, Louis Paul Pojman, contemplates the reason to believing in transcendent meaning of life is religion.

If we open our lives and give service to those less fortunate than ourselves, we allow our hearts to receive immeasurable happiness. When we sacrifice our time to help someone in need, whether it is a great or small need, we become a part of their life and can help alleviate heavy burdens. Making time to help people in need creates opportunities for us to develop new and lasting relationships. Serving our fellowmen allows the best in each of us to shine through and we can become examples to our children.
Most people feel that they have some sort of purpose in life and to be able to discover that purpose and fulfill it, gives their lives value. There are many ways that people assign value in their lives. Some do it through giving back, others serve their countries, some teach. Those were just a couple of specific examples about how people assign value to their lives. In the article “You Are Your Life, and Nothing Else” the writer says that “we have no other purpose than the one we set ourselves; no other destiny than the one we forge” (Case 2). This statement clarifies that because we humans do not really have a specific purpose such as a chair or a fork that we have to figure out our purpose. The writer also explains further and again says
Our lives are a gift from God and all life on our planet is given by
How does one put a value upon life? That is the question that surfaces in the mind of every individual at least once in a lifetime. The answer is not a definite one. Everyone has various beliefs and morals; this makes manifesting life’s value into a definite answer a daunting task. I believe every individual holds a personal value of life, each of us appreciate different aspects of life more than other. Life is priceless. There is no specific value that can be placed upon it. There is no way to weigh a life’s worth. Sure you can calculate a person’s economic worth or their career, but a career isn’t a life. There are many aspects as to why life is priceless. You can not measure a person’s values, nor can you weigh the experiences of one’s life. The triumphs and the defeats build character and provide insight. Some may be considered wiser than others, but does that make their life worth more?
This doesn’t mean we should all go out and be terrible people, but rather that we should learn from our mistakes. It is those “life” lessons and experiences which give our lives meaning. Meaning and value however, are completely different issues. The people at most life insurance companies will tell you it is a simple mathematical process based on age, physical health, and income. You’ll have the value of anyone’s life calculated in an instant. Unfortunately, this process cannot be applied to those awesome or tragic memories or experiences.
Life is something that cannot be measure or rated, because each person has a different importance to one person than to others, from there come the influence and the real value that we can give to other person´s life, so if we think on this, as others can be important and have influence in our life, same way our life is important and we can influence others by the way we live.
n life many things and people hold value to us, when a child is brought into this world his/her parents lives are
Value is the wish that something is held to deserve; the importance, worth, or utility of something or principles or standards of behaviour; one's opinion of what is significant in life . As human beings, there’s things we value as such, as material and physical values, economic values, moral values, societal values, political values, aesthetical values, spiritual values and rational values. As humans, we would like to think we are in charge of our own values and what is worthy of our desires (instrumental values). Merely this is incorrect for there’s intrinsic values, values that are valuable for the grounds of their nature such as life. For lesson, our human body demands water, why do we drink water because we need to life, but why do we need to life?
