Do you have the daily fight about doing homework? Well I think we should not have homework. Even though some may disagree that it is good. I know homework is bad because, homework has no academic benefit, has bad medical effects ,and parents feel that can’t help. One reason why we should not have homework is homework has no academic benefit. One example is that according to Robert Marzano a well known educational researcher “homework and test scores do not correlate.” Robert Marzona even stated that homework can have a negative effect on test scores. So your child could be staying up all night to finish their homework and end up with a worse grade than they would have gotten with no homework. Also according to Too Much Homework=Lower Test Scores countries like Japan students are assigned little homework, yet out score countries like U.S Thailand Greece and Iran that assign their students lots of homework. This shows that homework is not effective because the countries with more homework have worse test scores. Finally according to Robert Marzona “teachers are not well trained to assign homework.” This is important because if teachers don’t …show more content…
One example is stress. According to NEA scientist have linked homework with stress. This is a big deal because when you're stressed you tend to be in a mode and take it out on someone else. Also in the article Should Schools Ban Homework the article states how studies have linked homework with lack of sleep. So like staying up all night hoping you did your homework right, or staying up all night to do it. Lastly according to Robert Marzano homework is interfering with the U.S culture. How? U.S culture values family time that homework takes away. By doing this family's can get into fight on whether to go to your brothers soccer game or do homework. Homework being bad for you is another reason schools should not have
For instance, Robert Roy Britt States, “A comprehensive review of academic performance around the world gives bad remarks to excessive homework.” in his article “Too Much Homework = Lower Test Scores”. According to studies done by David Baker and Gerald LeTendre, countries that assign a profusion of homework such as Thailand, Greece, and Iran score low and the US may do just as much or more, but only for the international average, yet countries like Denmark and Japan that assign minimal to no homework have students who score high. That evidence highlights the fact that not just individual schools, but whole countries are finding that when a teacher assigns more and more homework their students won't score as high while teachers who assign little to no homework end up with students who score really high as the majority. Also to illustrate this idea Ray Bradbury states in his work Fahrenheit 451, “This age thinks better of a gilded fool than a threadbare saint wisdom’s school.” In this quote, Bradbury compares a gilded fool and a threadbare saint and just like the society today, people look at the ones who look good or what the models do, but they can be wrong. Just like with person type, doing homework will get a student as far as a gilded fool will get while someone who doesn't do homework with complete many great things because they aren't foolish and use wisdom to see that homework is pointless. The evidence from the studies done by David Baker and Gerald Letendre and the quote from Fahrenheit 451 is enough to prove that homework doesn't improve students’ grades, and society looks at the people who do homework and think they are great even though they're wasting their
Many people often say that students, teachers, and parents, think homework should be banned, but multiple people disagree. This heated topic has been debated for many years. Some parents and teachers think students have too much. However, some believe their students receive too little. Few schools already have banned homework, but the majority of schools don’t. Some people agree with having ten minutes multiplied by the grade level of the student. As experts continue adding additional facts about homework, it is clear that homework can help students in different ways.
Khristina Janer, a mother from Illinois, says, “I don’t feel like a parent. I feel like a drill sergeant!” when making her kids finish their homework after an extended period of time (Wallace). Many studies show the effectiveness of homework and all of the benefits it can do for us; the problem is: teachers are making kids do too much homework when they get home from school. The teachers don’t take in the environmental factors that could be harming any student 's ability to get a task done. Teachers automatically believe that kids are irresponsible or unmotivated when they don’t succeed in finishing their homework. When kids are given this much, or this difficult of, homework, sleep is being sacrificed. Even when they are doing all of their
For starters, homework pushes families further apart.: Kids get frustrated when their family helps them with their homework which cause anger and causes family’s not to be as close like they should be.Homework increases family conflict. Parents help with there kids homework which causes more tension and anxiety for children. (Coulson): This is one
One of the reasons homework should be banned is because of the unnecessary stress and strain it creates for students. Many students are left pulling their hair out at homework time. Students struggle with homework for different reasons. Some of which are because they do not understand the assigned homework, or they are not being challenged, and quite possibly because they have hit their daily threshold for learning and have no more to give. Furthermore, students who struggle academically will likely require extra assistance to do their homework. Students are therefore tasked with finding a qualified person to assist them with homework. Students are not only under the stress of homework, but now they are under additional stress to find a qualified person that can assist them. Unfortunately, some students may not be able to obtain the help they need with their homework. Consequently and to no fault of their own their grades may be affected inaccurat...
Have you ever wanted to just shred up your homework or throw it out the window and have no consequences? Kids are assigned daily homework from the time they start kindergarten at the ripe young age of five. Is it really necessary? Does it even help better learning or even higher test scores? The amount of homework we do wastes time, money, paper, and trees because it’s practically the exact same thing we did in class that day. Homework causes kid’s and teen’s frustration, tiredness, little time for other activities and possibly even a loss of interest in their education. It also keeps everyone up; it has kids and teens staying up until they finish it, the parents trying to help them and the teachers grading it. So, I think that homework is a waste and kids and teens should choose whether they want to do their homework for extra credit and practice or not.
“So, is homework related to high academic success?” “At a national level, the answer is clearly no. Worldwide, homework is not associated with high national levels of academic achievement” (Homework 2). Kids do not get enough sleep because school starts too early and schools should start later for health benefits. Additionally, Teachers give too much homework which might cause kids to stay up late and not get enough sleep and cause health issues. If schools start late there’s less time for after school activities. Even though homework is to help learn and schools start early and end at a good time, schools should start later because kids do not get enough sleep and teachers give too much homework.
It also helps us to remember the materials that were taught in class. Another reason homework can be beneficial is the fact that it can prepare us for tests and the dreadful pop-quiz that a teacher may randomly give us. This fact was proven, according to a 2006 study by Harris Cooper, director of Duke University’s Program in Education, in the article “Homework or Not? That is the “Research Question”. The studies instituted that “students who had homework performed better on class tests compared to those who did not” (DeNisco).
We all know that kids do not like homework, and we all know that kids just want to get rid of it. I know, I want it gone too. But what if there is a good enough debate that we can maybe, just maybe, end the suffering of children having homework. I’m going to be talking about why schools should not have homework. Some reasons are depression, stress, and exercise.
If kids have too much homework they wouldn’t get free time to play outside until they finish their homework. Students who care about school wouldn’t do anything fun until they finish their homework which means less physical exercise. Too much homework and no time to play outside is very bad for your health. If you are not getting exercise which means your body will be out of shape. Without playing outside your body can get out of shape and obese because you are not exercising every day. When you have too much homework you would be cramped up in your room studying all day and having no exercise. Students shouldn’t be getting to much homework so they could play outside and be healthy and
This will help promote my side of the argument so that my side will be the superior argument and will attract more readers. I think kids should have less homework.Three reasons are, that homework is stressful, kids are given more homework than required, and it puts pressure on students causing them to work to hard and and have anxiety and health issues.
Homework is one of the struggle that students have. In now days, students are having very hard time at doing homework. They use a lots of time to finish it. Students don’t have relaxing time because of homework time. Many teachers are giving home works to students, so they usually spend time to finish homework, essay, and projects.
My second reason why homework is not beneficial to students is that it takes away from family time and extracurricular activities. An article by NBC News states that ¨Homework takes away from family time and does not improve academic performance. ¨ Also Robert Marzano stated that ¨too much homework harms student´s health and family time
Should or should not have homework There are many pros and cons to a lot of things and places. One very particular place that has a lot pros and cons is schools. My argument is schools should/should not have homework. The side I am going for is the con side.
Homework shouldn’t be given because it takes up too much time, some students don’t have a suitable home to complete assignments, and the stress that comes along with it is detrimental. It is unfortunate that children are stacked with unnecessary portions of irrelevant and tiring homework.
