The America I believe in should be grateful that our government doesn’t control us. We should be grateful that we don't have to escape our country because we don't have a major war breaking out. We should also be grateful we have a roof over our heads and that we don't go hungry. China, Cuba,Laos, and North Korea are all communist countries where the government or dictator rules the people.
Dinesh D’Souza constructs an argument in his essay “What’s so great about America” that is convincing to the average reader. His essay was published 15 years ago and American culture has seen some changes since then. However, nothing that he mentions specifically in the essay has changed drastically. His extrinsic ethos is strong because he is from India and the audience may perceive that he can compare his knowledge of living elsewhere to an immigrant’s knowledge. This view of looking at America from an outsider’s point of view and how others view living in America is essential in D’Souza’s fundamental argument. He compares living in America to living in other less developed countries and appeals to the common citizen in his style, logic, and development of his essay. His arguments are sound and he convinces the average citizen that America is the best place to live, although his lack of facts and statistics to back up his statements could be seen as a weakness.
America’s veterans should be honored because they have suffered through so many hardships that others could not and have not survived, and they did it for their country that they loved and still love today.
There are not many countries around the earth that not only give the people the right to any religion, but also the right to express themselves however they like. Especially allowing the people to say, write, think, and argue whatever they please, even about the government. Most governments forbid the bashing of the government or heads of government by the people. In several countries it is penalized by death. Again, to have a choice of what we say and write is what makes us American. Some governments put to death to those that actually express an opinion. So this is what it means to be an American. To have the freedom to speak what we 're thinking, to say what 's on our mind. To express our feelings and ideas and opinions without fear of punishment. The worst we could ever fear as an American who speaks their mind, is ridicule from peers. This is what it means to be an American; to have the privilege and right granted to us to speak freely. To be able to have our own opinions and speak our mind is one of the huge keys to opening the door to being an
America. It was a dream come true in a New World that was envisioned by artists, politicians, and monarchs alike. The ones who believed that anything could be achieved by God, the mind, and manpower. Even through opposition from governments, kingdoms, nobles, and naysayers, these brave individuals strived to establish a better life for themselves and their families, aimed to retain a secure future in the process, and wanted to worship God in their own way.
The American government, who believes in capitalism, is a strong opponent of Communism. Their perception of Communism is negative; and this is often shown through different medias, such as television shows, movies, and literatures. One example is The Ugly American by William J. Lederer and Eugene Burdick. In The Ugly American, Lederer and Burdick portray Communism as a force of evil that is slowly spreading in undeveloped Asian countries like a virus, with many of the citizens of these Asian countries becoming Communists. As well, the authors depict many of their American characters as anti-communists who try different approaches to prevent the spread of it. Though the authors' views on Communism is a reflection of the American government, the question that emerges is whether this portrayal is accurate.
In the article about Jimmy Carter by Charles Richardson, we learn that at the Notre Dame Carter said “no matter what religion, ancestry, color, place of origin, or cultural background we are Americans.” We might be different in many ways as mentioned before but the one thing that unites us more then anything is human freedom. This is because everyone in America wants to have their freedom. We want everyone to know that our country stands for more than financial prosperity but we stand for freedom more than anything. In our past we have thought that maybe a friendly dictator would be nice instead of the government but that would mean we would be picking a dictator over freedom. This is why we have stuck with the government system to this day.
There are many negative views that people have on Americans and on America in general. David Zinczenko thinks that so many American kids are becoming obese because there are more fast food places than there are grocery stores. Vicente Verdu says that America has such a huge impact on other countries that crimes that are happening here are happening there in very similar ways. Other countries are gaining McDonalds and they are changing the menu to fit their culture. Renee Graham commented that American directors are buying the rights to Asian movies and changing them so that Americans can better understand them. The remade movies are getting better reviews and taking home more money than the original movies.
The United States Government is beloved to all Americans, in the simple fact that all men are created equal and all men are given equal opportunity, to aspire to achieve success and make their dreams come true. Although the percentage of people who achieve all of their goals in life is fairly small, they have the freedom to chase them and America for the most part is a pretty content place. The “law of the land” that sets the standards for our rights and privileges is the U.S. Constitution.
What does it mean to be an American? To become an American your first step will have to be getting rid of those pesky morals and ethics. Now that the irrelevant things are out of the way, we can really begin.
What does it mean to be an American? Never given it much thought before. I just thought, "Well, I'm here. In America. The land of the free and the stupid. Americans can't drive, our government is... well lets just say decent, and it definitely isn't filled with the wisest of old men/women. The main things I feel people that were born in America focus on, is sports or becoming famous. We already have it well enough. Just because of our individual rights and all. So why not make it better by getting more money, right?" That's what I thought on a daily basis when talking to new people or just seeing new people. Who am I to criticize anyways, right? I'm not quintessential, at this moment I'm not even driving. I mean I could be just as terrible as the other Americans that think they can drive. I would like to become famous and rack in some cash as well, but I still have my mind set on college. So after thinking about it, I came to the realization that what being an American means to me is, individuality.
...ern ideology: China and North Korea. However, these countries did not go unscathed by the weaknesses of Communism: China established economic reforms in the late 1970s in order to combat its complications with a government controlled production system, North Korea struggles daily with lack of food for its citizens, instead wasting its money on funding for the military and nuclear weapons. Furthermore, Marx failed to account for human lust for power: once Joseph Stalin took control after Lenin’s death in 1924, the Soviet Union transformed into a totalitarian dictatorship. This is also seen in North Korea when Kim Jong-un assumed power after his father’s death, he became supreme leader—a dictator. Although the idea of Communism worked in theoretical practice, when applied to real world circumstances, Communism abused the working class more so than capitalism ever had.
One of the most famous phrases that Americans say in relation to the people’s power (or the over power of government) is, “We the people…” The people need to have power over the government so that they should not become insignificant. The government should, in turn, make laws that are helpful to the people and improve their quality of life. An example of a government that is all-powerful in their country is North Korea. They are essentially ruled by a single leader, Kim Jong Un, who has a very militaristic idea for their country, as they continue to work on and test nuclear bombs, although they are restricted from it by the countries of the world. When government becomes too controlling, the lives of the people are no longer controlled by the
I ask the people of the United States of America to share with me today this moment of achievement. In the peaceful movement of power, a celebration of our country's unity that a main cause of our freedom is occurring. We the people of America, and our many allies, are going through a rough period of chaotic trials. These many trials are showing how heroic, how intelligent, and how quick we are to resolve drawbacks in our government. On the Fourth of July, North Korea passed crucial debut: it launched its first intercontinental ballistic missile powerful enough to reach the mainland United States. In response,on July 21st, authorities in Hawaii announced that they would rejuvenate a series of Cold War-era sirens, to warn the public about
To begin with, this country is one of the best of the world, the best of its nature, is one the most prosperous countries in the world. In US there freedom of speech which a lot of people and immigrants appreciate how well designed this system is. People keep come to this nation to have better life, certainly not happening in other nation that they were before. A lot of don’t have this system called freedom of speech if you get caught telling ideas about the government could get you arrested. Socialism known as, because they have a way of thinking called “Communism”, because of that the President can take on your life, and many of the people sadly disagree and they have to leave their nation and their families behind, are not trapped or in jail because they said something about their government, so they come to this nation for an Improved life for an opportunity of a well-paid job, for a better education, for a brand new opportunity to live the freedom of America.
America has done a great deal for me. This country has accepted my family and has given them freedom, education, and work. Because they were allowed these opportunities, we live a stable life with food, clothes, and shelter. In 2001, I was born in the land of the free, and received rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as stated in the Declaration of Independence. For all this, I owe a great deal to my nation, America. It is my duty to make America greater than it has ever been before. My responsibility to my country is to be a leader, especially as a female. I owe it to my country to be highly educated. Furthermore, I owe it to my country to be an active member in society. I believe that these are just a few of the responsibilities that I have to America.
