Veterinarians would be considered to be important to society. They help and treat many different types of animals. Without vets, animals that needed help wouldn’t have much of a chance. They have to go through college and get a degree to become a vet, but it’s worth it. The life of a vet is mostly going to college to get your degree, getting a job at a veterinary clinic, and helping/treating the animals.
If you’re interested in animals and science, you should look into being a veterinarian. All veterinarians have to go to college. They spend four years in college to get their bachelor's degree. Vets do many things like examine animals and diagnose their health problems, treat wounds, perform surgeries, test for vaccines against the disease, operate medical equipment like x-rays, prescribe medications, and talk to the owners about general health, medical care, and the treatments. The job can be very risky at times. Vets that work with frightened animals or animals that are in pain could be bitten, scratched, or kicked. If the animal carries a disease, then the vet is at risk of being infected. Some veterinarians work with larger animals, like farm animals. They have to travel there and perform surgeries, in some times bad conditions because of weather or the location. Vets that conduct research usually work in offices and labs, they spend most of their times dealing with people and not animals. Places like slaughtering houses and food-processing plants have veterinarians come to inspect the animals and make sure that they’re healthy. They also travel to those places to check on the living spaces and make sure that they’re clean. An official definition of a vet is a medical professional that protects the health and well-being of animals. Most vets diagnose animal health problems, vaccinate against diseases, giving medication to animals suffering from illnesses and diseases, and many other things. They also help humans if they get something contagious from their pet. Being a veterinarian would be great and interesting job for people who are interested in animals and caring for
Vet Tech has always been an option for me, helping animals is something that is very interesting. It was introduced in 1989, the AVMA officially adopted the name “Vet Tech.” In 1998, emergency vets debut on Animal Planet. And in 2008, student population grows from 500 to 700. There are about 17,000 people employed in the career field chosen. Some of the common trends of the job would be, working at Zoos, Aquariums, Boarding Kennels, and Wildlife sanctuaries. These jobs are usually found working in an animal clinic or hospitals and sometimes at farms because that is the “normal” areas for this occupation. In this career there are some general duties such as: Observe animals behavior and conditions, Provide nursing care, Bathe animals, Clip nails, groom animals hair, keep animals calm during exams or procedures. The more specific duties of the job would be to: take x-rays of animals and develop them, get utensils and prepare the animals for surgery, keep and record patient's history. Most of the clinics are open 24 hours. There is not anything that is unusual about the number of hours/nature of the job. (Bls.gov.vettech)
A vet tech can work in different work environments, such as animal hospitals, and private clinics. Working in various, environments create skillful tasks, which include: lab work, radiology, nursing care, surgery, x-rays, and assisting veterinarians in surgeries (Money Careers). When she was little she could only dream of becoming a veterinarian. Now she is fulfilling her dreams as a Veterinary Technician. "Choose a job you love and you will never work a day in your life”(Henry Hernandez). Being a Veterinary Tech is really a lot of fun as long as you are passionate love with animals. One reason to become a Veterinary Tech is because they get to meet new animals and take care of them too. This career is very important because the well-being of animals is just as important as the well-being of humans(Vet Tech Guide). Animals need to be thought of humans just in a different shape. Loving, respecting, and comforting animals is just a small part in the career of a Veterinary Technician; being detail oriented, strong, and being educated are also very important qualities for a veterinary technician to have.
For as long as I can remember, my childhood dream has always been wanting to become a veterinarian. While other kids were outside having fun at the playground, I was at the library reading books and learning about the different animals. However, as I matured, I realized that being a veterinarian isn’t just about caring for and assisting injured animals. Being a veterinarian means having the ability to make quick decisions in stressful situations, showing complete dedication and passion to this profession, and being able to effectively communicate to pet owners.
I chose veterinary technician because I think it will suite me best; moreover later in life I can always go back to school to be a veterinarian whether then get the degree and not use it. I think veterinary technicians have important roles because the doctor will always need assistance with an animal and I would like to be on the side where I will not have to give shots or put them to sleep. Watching an animal get put to sleep is the hardest thing anyone could ever have to see or deal with. I can not be the one to put an animal to sleep it would hurt me to much no matter how much the job needed to be done. Working at the vet as a senior I have seen many gruesome things that veterinarians have to do; however the worse I have seen is the rabies observations. A rabies observation is for an animal that bit someone and depending on how bad the bite is depends on what route they choose to take. This animal had bitten someone pretty bad so they chose the route of putting it to sleep and they doctor had to cut the head off. After the animal 's head was off they stored it in the refrigerator and the next morning was sent of to a laboratory for testing on the neurological part of the brain; moreover it was the worst experience I have had while working at a veterinary clinic. That day I thought to myself I
As mentioned before, college is not a necessity to become a veterinary assistant; therefore, no colleges have specific courses to take for this career. Some colleges carry animal science which could be useful in this career field, but probably wouldn’t give me enough hands-on training in this field. I could supplement my veterinary assistant training by learning additional skills at any of the following
