Ring, ring, ring. All teens know what that sound means; a cell or text. Teachers know this sound too, because they hear it in their classes every day. Some teachers think that teens shouldn’t have phones, even to help with classwork. The reasons why teens shouldn’t have phones in class is because not everyone is going to get the some data, not everyone will get the right data, and they are too dependent on them. First and foremost, why teens shouldn’t use phones to help with classwork is that not everyone will get the same data. In other words, everyone won’t use the same website. For example, our teacher asked us to look up the most important organ in the human body. We got five different answers; some of us put lungs, some put heart, …show more content…
Websites can be made by anyone and because of this, not all websites have right data. To prove the point, in class one day, we had to take a test, but we could look up the answers on our phones. I used three websites to find the answers. I missed half of the questions and got an F. If I had use the textbook, i might not have gotten an F. Moreover , teens are too dependent on phones. Most teens couldn't live without phones. As an illustration, my friend bob walks home from school. He uses the GPS on his phone to find his way home. One day, when he was walking home, his phone broke. He had to walk back to the school and call his mom to come get him because his phone was broken. If he wasn’t so department on his phone, he could have just walked home on his own. Although some people believe that phones are useful because they’re little computers, this doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter because schools have computers and textbooks. Text books are better than computers anyway because most of the worksheets teachers make are from the text books. Computers don’t always have the right data. Text books, on the other hand, were written by people who know what they’re talking about. Text books are better than
However, this also discusses the effects of technology on various aspects of our everyday personal experiences, both with each other and with the world around us. On the other hand, technologies such as cell phones have become a problem in getting students to focus in class and distracting drivers and thus, resulting in vehicle accidents. Technology is beneficial, but can also become an inescapable distraction in our lives. It is important to view technology as having the ability to make our lives better or worse, yet also as having the ability to change our personal lives and behavioral patterns. The use of technology makes our daily tasks easier, such as a better sense of direction while driving via a GPS, safety features in our cars such as Auto Drive and Auto Park.
In a nutshell, here are some academically beneficial aspects of cell phones and other devices. Most modern devices are capable of remembering complex math theorems and are able to note due dates for assignments. My phone has a "Notes" application, where I conveniently store all of my assignments. So, for those of you who are arguing that there is no reason to have a phone in school, how do you think I get absolutely all of my homework assignments done on time? Another aspect that is advantageous in most cell phones are calculator applications. Rather than spending an additional $100 on a fancy Texas Instruments calculator for Trigonometry or Calculus, I am easily able to access an application on my cellphone that allows me to take advantage of all of the functions that any standard calculator is able to use.
The truth is technology is bad for teenagers and they use way too much of it. Technology is not good for teens for many reasons. First of all technology distracts teens. When a teenager is doing homework it is hard for them to resist listening to music or taking a break to text some friends.
Well…they aren’t. 95% of time children spend on tech devices is for mindless entertainment purposes, not education” (Rowan, 2014). Students having their phones in class is truly a good resource for finding more information they need by just searching it up on the internet instead of trying to find a book on that certain topic. Students can also find it quickly since the phone is so accessible (Antonucci, 2014). With no doubt, cell phones are a great resource for students to have more to
Docksai, Rick. Teens and cell phones: cell phones can be noisy and distracting. But they can also be an aid to learning." The Futurist. Jan.-Feb.
Firstly, cell phones are a useful object when needed in an emergency. When parents need to contact their kids, they would have access to talk with them on their cell phones. People say "But there's phones in the office", So? What if office staff are out for lunch? What if the emergency happens at their parent’s work place? So, what would they do? Go out and look for them? Cell phones are very useful in that situation! If an emergency happens how would their kids know when to turn their phones on? So, a good comprise would be to turn on your phone and set it on vibrate. Schools should allow cell phones in school for children's protection and safety.
Because of its portability and capability to aid in doing homework or activities assigned by a teacher, it could help increase the learning potential of students. Furthermore, Soloway also mentioned about affordability and durability makes it suitable for students instead of using a laptop. Soloway implies that the advantages a smartphone brings in to the table when it comes to different circumstances is a perfect tool for learning. Despite all the benefits, Soloway addresses the most important issue when it comes to implementing smartphone usage in classrooms— “perception” (Soloway, 2011, pg. 2). Soloway states that to resolve the issue simply “turn off texting, and turn off voice functions” (Soloway, 2011.
Teenagers should be aware of the harms of technology in their schools. Some schools even encourage cell phone usage as classroom tools. If technology in schools replace paper, then there is no point of having schools. Student will just have online classes. Which is why student dropout rates increased.
A.S. & Y.S. More Schools use Cell Phones as Learning Tools.” USA Today. N.p., 7 Aug. 2013. Web. The Web.
Electronics are a huge part of our society. “Out of the world’s estimated 7 billion people, 6 billion have access to mobile phones” (Wang). Over thousands of these cell phones are owned by students K-12. A major debate topic is should cell phones be allowed in schools? “Twenty-four percent of schools have banned mobile devices altogether and sixty-two percent allow them on school grounds, but not in the classroom” (Raths). Cell phones should not be allowed in school because children focus more on the phone than schoolwork, it will create more drama, and it promotes cheating.
Teenagers are becoming adults and by the greater technology gets the less focus in a teacher's major class in order for them to become successful in a career and a better life. The negative effects of texting in a classroom is a non learning environment for them or the classmates. Texting in a class is very disrespectful to the class because know one is begin engage into the lesson. Students suppose to learn in classrooms not texting in a classroom.
Cell phones are small and portable yet provide so much to its user with being able to look up anything to calling your parents in case of an emergency or if you need to give them a heads up on something. With the way things are today people need to focus on incorporating cell phones into daily life and finding ways to make them more suitable in a classroom environment. Teachers are already doing this though with using apps that work with the whole class and can track data and usage of a student. It cannot be debated that cell phones are beneficial in school as before cell phones you would have to go to your local library and hopefully find what you are looking for. Cell phones belong in a school environment as they can be helpful and it 's a parent 's right to be able to get ahold of their
Today’s cell phone is the front line technology at our fingertips. Keeping this in mind the use of cell phones have become an affair when it comes to allowing teens to use them in educational environments, such as schools. One part of society supports the use of cell phones while the other part of society disapproves the use of cell phones. I personally believe that cell phones should not only be allowed in school, but cell phones should be mandatory just like a textbook. Cell phones do not only allow students to stay united with friends and family, but cell phones are also a magnificent learning system, and they boost the liable use of technology.
I remember a classmate when I was in high school because he never talked to anybody. He spent most of his time on his cell phone or using his tablet, and he did not do well in school. He was different than my other classmates and I believe that he never felt comfortable in the classroom. Everybody knows that cell phones have changed peoples’ life dramatically. Cell phones are one of the most revolutionary advances in the last decades because they make things simpler and easier but cell phones have a strong impact on teenagers. Teenagers are in one of the most important phase in their lives because they are exploring the world and developing their capacities. I believe that cell phones have more negative than positives effects on teenagers for many reasons.
