Did you know that about eighty-eight percent of North Americans have a computer in their household? How about the fact that the average American eats about twenty-five pounds of candy each year? These statistics show that both computer usage and junk food consumption are a big part of many lives today. This brings up the question of which would be worse: being banned from computer use for a year, or being banned from eating sweets for a year. Some may say they can’t live without eating sweets, but others may say they couldn’t live without using a computer. I first would like to apologize for thinking that it was easy to give up. I really struggle with giving up sugar. The first week I started was a nightmare. I experience headaches, mood swings, stress, fatigue, irritability, and depression. According to mental health daily (2014), these are some of the symptoms that an individual will experience during sugar withdrawals.

A recent study indicates that cutting back sugar for 10 days has significant impact. When a study conducted with 43 kids, diet, it was noted that after 10 days of cutting back sugar, their bad cholesterol dropped, reduced risk of diabetes, blood glucose and insulin levels were back to normal. This was a very significant result just by cutting back sugar for 10 days. It suggests that adults can also benefit from this study.
Everyday Americans die from the diseases they carry from obesity. Many Americans overeat because of their social problems or because they are hereditary. Many plans have been discussed, but finding the solution is the problem. Junk foods and unhealthy beverages have corrupted children’s minds all over the nation, and putting a stop to it could lead to other benefits. Unhealthy foods and drinks should be taxed and healthy foods should be advertised to help prevent American obesity.
We make personal choices about what and where to eat. The government is not going to eliminate the unhealthy food because we think it is the cause of obesity. Banning products don't eliminate the problem. although it may be a solution to the problem, it doesn’t always fix it. Drugs for example, the Government should let the people decide if they want to destroy themselves with knowing the consequences. Drugs in public is banned due to harming people who are around the consumer of the drug. People should have the freedom to do what they want to a certain extent without having to go against the banning of a product. Although not banning items may cause commotion in some ways, it is acceptable to see what the product does to the country because the product may do good for certain
The fact is that in our country, any government intrusion looks undesirable. We are so used to making free choice and to having access to everything we need and want that we have already forgotten the value and usefulness of the government control. No, that does not mean that the government must control everything and everyone. What I mean here is that the government control should be balanced with the freedom of choice. Unfortunately, plentiful foods do not lead to improved health conditions. We cannot always make a relevant choice. Our hurried lifestyles make us extremely fast, and eating is not an exception. We eat fast, but fast does not always mean useful. I believe, and in this essay I argue that the government must have a say in our diets. Because there are so many obese people, because obesity is an expensive disease, and because very often it is due to poverty that people cannot afford healthy foods, the government must control the amount and the range of foods which we buy and eat. Healthy foods must become affordable. Poor populations must have access to high quality foods. The production of harmful foods should be limited. All these would be impossible if the government does not take active position against our diets.
I believe that a major problem in our school is the amount of sugar substitutes, located in the vending machines that dispense out sugar free sodas. As a member of the National Honors Society, I would implement a healthier option to prevent the higher risk of health problems associated with sucralose, a common additive in sugar free items. In order to do this it would be necessary to end a partnership from the Coca Cola company with our schools to prevent the high risks of toxin release, reduces drug resistance, decreases sensitivity of insulin, destroys bacteria essential for living.
