When a young adult decided to go to college they have a very big decision to make about what their future will hold and where their future will begin. Once the decision has been made and college has begun, new friends are made and the actions they do shape who they will become. Weekends come and go, but the decisions that are made are different for each and every individual that attends college. There are those who choose to stay on campus and spend the weekend doing things around school with new friends, others choose to go home for different reasons, such as being homesick and wanting to be with family or spending the time off of school for work to help pay for tuition, also there are the students who choose to go to other institutions to see new friends they have made or visit old ones from high school. What I am attempting to understand is with my target population, is not only what the group chooses to do with their weekend time, but also to try and understand why they choose to do what they do with that time.

A high school diploma is a foundation for basic education before going to college and it's a great accomplishment not too many people get to have. With a high school diploma many educational and professional opportunities will be available to me. I'll have better long term economic outcomes than individuals who do not have a high school diploma.

First of all, many high school graduates cannot handle college. Isabel V. Sawhill and Stephanie Owen describe college as a place, “one can obtain a traditional four-year bachelor’s degree”. The work load outside of the classroom could be compared to working a full time job. For example, if a student is enrolled in four college courses and is in class a minimum of four hours the student should spend at least four to six hours of studying. This may be extremely agitating and stressful to a student that is not good at studying. The new college student may realize that the schoolwork is too much for him to handle and instead drop out. In Pharinet’s blog post, Is College for Everyone? He states that “…it is estimated that in the U.S., approximately 50% of students who begin college never graduate. There exist students who are not yet ready for the academic and financial challenges of college. There exist students who do not have the desire for college or learning.” This statement is important because if 50% of students that begin college never gradua...

Despite this fact, “every year, over one point two million students drop out of high school in the United States.” Not having a high school diploma will make it harder for these teenagers later on in life. Many jobs require you to have a high school diploma or GED. Not having a high school diploma will increase the likely hood of students having legal troubles. Having a college degree in today’s world is very important because more companies and businesses are requiring that anyone they hire has at least a two-year college degree, which is also known as an Associate 's degree. High school graduates and other people who have had thoughts about going to college should do so because it is getting harder for just a high school graduate to get a job, this is a result of hiring companies and businesses don’t want anyone without a college degree. Having a college degree will open more opportunities for the future. By doing so they further their lives and create a future that they want.
Even though we know that “college is the best thing”, why we drop out of college? That fact is that we drop out from the college for many reasons. We sometimes drop out of the college because of bad friendship. For example, my brother’s friend was just 19 years old and he dropped out of college only because he wanted to fit into a group that was bigger than him. As a result of this, he wanted to be seen as “cool,” but that wasn’t all.
Someone with a high school diploma will have advantages over someone without one. With a diploma, it is easier to continue schooling to have more of an advantage in career paths. High schools also teaches valuable lessons that will be used in adulthood as well as offers experiences teenagers should encounter to help them shape them as people. Everyone has different lives outside of school and may have to deal with worse circumstances than others. But school should be seen as a getaway from the outside world because high school may seem tough; life afterwards tends to be tougher. School can be the escape needed, and a learning lesson for future obstacles. Some students cannot have school be a getaway from the outside world and are force to drop out. Other students feel as school is not a necessity or have something come up which they consider a good enough reason to drop out.

High school can be tough for many teenagers. Some students may feel as if the classes they are taking are boring or the material being taught will not help them later on in life. These students begin to not show up for class and then their grades start lowering drastically. Next, these students come up with the idea that dropping out is the easiest and fastest way to escape all the stress that is caused by academics. However, they need to start looking at the bigger picture and asking themselves if quitting school is going to help them reach their personal goals. Jobs is just an example of people who did not graduate from college. In the real world, people have many reasons why they drop out from school. Students leave school, even thought they do not graduate from schools because of financial aids, students’ interested, and crime.
I can understand why many students are moving away from an education in arts, since there is a lack of reliable and high paying jobs with this type of education. However, at the same time I feel very bad for these students. They have to give up on the things that they love just to make sure that they have a regular job and a good salary in their future. It sucks when you completely know what it is that you want to do but there is just not enough money into it, especially since a large amount of students go into debt just to pay for their schooling in the first place. I can relate to this greatly; I did not initially plan to do business but instead chose it because of the better job opportunities. I actually wanted to become a teacher, I hoped
One thousand. That number represents the number of students across America that have dropped out of high school, today alone (Camera). But what does it truly mean to drop out of high school? Most would consider dropping out as abandoning their education without getting a degree. However, experts say that dropping out includes receiving a General Education Development, or GED, which allows the owner to graduate earlier than their graduation date (Paulson). Neither one of these options is the smartest choice, and researchers continue to attempt to find ways to lower the drop out rates. Leaving secondary school early, for any reason, can produce negative effects in students’ futures.
