Dear, Mr.Tull Sleep, necessary for all living things but apparently students don't get enough. Students complain about the time school starts should be later than what their school regularly starts. VMS's start time is 8:25 while Eastern's is 7:30. According to the time that students wake up and sleep it is estimated that half the students start to go to bed at 10:00 due to practices, sports, or because of homework. Students should have school start at 9:45 and end at approximately 4:15 because of kids sleep at 10:00 they will have at least 9 hours of sleep which is more than enough. If kids have school start at 9:45 they will be more alert in school and do better because the better sleep you get, the better you will do in school and homework. I would be more than alert and it would also help students that are usually tired in class more awake. Changing the school schedule would …show more content…
Kids alaways complain about the bus arriving late and that is because the drivers don't have enough sleep and wake up way too early. If the school changes it's schedule the bus driver will have a good rest and be at the bus stop on time. Students even complain that the teacher don't usually teach well some days or even don't grade tests fast enough and that is because they need their sleep and if you change the school schedule the teachers will have more than enough time to grade very student's test and will be well rested to teach in school better. In conclusion, If the school changes their schedule it will benefit all including teachers, students, bus drivers, and even parents. So if we change the schedule school students can sleep at any time they want as long as they get at least 9 hours of sleep, enough to do well in school, to do better at sports, and even to be overall stay healthy and grow. So students having more sleep is better for the world and their
When in the course of human events, students should be entering school a little bit later than the usual. This will give the student more sleep time which then will allow the student to think better when in school. This will also help a student be fully awake and not be sleeping in class. Students will pay more attention and will be ready to learn. Waking up early and going to school early makes a student be sleepy in class. We the students should be getting a later start in school.
Despite popular opinion, to be beneficial, schools should continue on their current schedules, and not start later. Starting schools later can have a variety of positive and negative consequences on students. Schools currently are at a time that gives students enough lesson time to learn subjects, but still have time to relax and take part in other activities after school. Also many families depend on the time school starts to have easy transportation to school and work. Starting schools later will take away students time to do activities of their choice such as spend time with their families, socialize with others, and participate in extracurricular activities.
How many times has this happened to you; it’s six thirty on a Tuesday morning, your alarm has already gone off twice, your still laying in bed and your bus comes in twenty minutes. This is an everyday occurrence at my house. It is a proven statistic that the average high school student does not get enough sleep. While some experts like Dr. Lee Yanku say “It is not the schools starting time that is the problem as to why students don’t get enough sleep, it is because of facebook, myspace and cell phones” The truth behind it is that we can’t budget sports, homework and extracurricular activities into one day and still get nine hours of sleep. This is hurting student’s academic averages and needs to change. Changing the school time will help boost academic averages among students, and isn’t th...
One drawback to later start times is the fact that school would end later. Since schools that start later still have the same number of hours in a day, they would in turn end later in the afternoon. This can cause problems for after school activities, and also homework after school. Some students families depend on the money earned from working after school jobs. If the school they were attending got out later, they would have less time after school to work these jobs, so they would be unable to make the money they need to support their families (“Eight Major Obstacles to Delaying School Start Times”). In addition, any after school clubs or activities would end later after school, causing those involved to stay up later at
Schools should not start later because that would cause a lot of problems. Schools should stay how they are because it will make kids stop being on there phones at night so much, it won’t make school end later (and make kids walk home in the dark), and it interfere with sports or jobs.
“The point is this is a health issue and we want them to be more productive,” said principal Sam Miceli. The people that decide what time school starts should talk to health professionals. The reason school should start later are grades and class work can increase and for teen’s health and safety. I want to convince you that school should start later in the day.
Changing the start time of school would improve student attendance. According to the Scholarly Community Encyclopedia, a test in 2014 showed that attendance was greatly improved when school was changed to start at 8:30 or later. This would give kids more time to fully wake up and get ready. It would also help with tardies in the mornings. This would benefit both students and the overall school
The school districts should consider switching school start times and hour later, because of all the kids who get bad attendance, bad grades, and don't get enough sleep at night. The later schools start the more students are gonna pass and get good attendance and
According to the National Sleep Foundation, 33% of high school students fall asleep during school. Most people claim that the students being tired is due to them simply staying up too late, but that is not always the case. The way that the school start times are set up, now it is nearly impossible to get the amount of sleep that students need to function. With the biological sleep clock of students having them fall asleep at 11:00pm and then having to be up at 6:00 in the morning to get ready, the ten-hour goal is unachievable. When students are sleep deprived their focus and attention drift more easily making it significantly harder to pay attention in class. The lack of sleep also impacts students memory, the brain has to work harder to be able to retrieve previously learned information (Sleep, Learning, and Memory). Students who have gotten a good night rest are proven to pay more attention in
Many people argue that making the decision to change schools starting and dismissal times would cause too many issues with scheduling for other
If students aren't happy with their classes or schedule, it should be allowed to change. A later start would really impact schools because it’s been scientifically proven that students brains don’t officially wake up until about nine or ten o'clock in the morning. If we change the school start time to ten o’clock it would allow children to have a better ability learning new things and less students would be sleep-deprived. Another thing that should be taken into account is a longer lunch because it gives students a little time to have fun. Schools also need a longer lunch because calling zones takes a long time and usually the last zone called barely has enough time to finish their food.
Even if students wanted to go to bed earlier it can prove challenging. Parents with children in elementary and/or middle school would have more difficulty in making sure their children get to school on time, as well as making sure they get to work on time. Traffic is generally light, so if schools were to push back at a later time, traffic would be an issue. If elementary school students switched times with the high school students, the kids would leave earlier and parents would still be at work, leaving them unsupervised. Elementary school kids aren’t ready to stay alone unsupervised yet, which would affect after school care.
Students and teacher both wish that school would start later. Most teenagers are grumpy and unpleasant in the morning which nobody enjoys. It is actually unhealthy for teens to be at school before nine o’clock. The only issue with school starting later is that some students may not have rides due to parents working and not being able to take them. The school times need to be delayed until at least eight thirty for students to be able to properly learn.
Also many teachers think that what affects all student is a “Sleeping issue”, “It doesn’t have to do if she or he is smart or not- those kids are, it’s just the sleepiness issue.”(Kirtchuk). Also Students would be healthier and less sleep deprived, “Sleep deprivation is epidemic among adolescents, with potentially serious impacts on mental and physical health, safety and learning.” (Extra Zzz's in Morning May Help Teens Stay Alert in Class). It would help a lot of students if they get an extra hour and a half, so they would not get mental or physical health problems. Medical research has shown dramatic negative effects of sleep
Secondly, in the opposing side school should stay at an earlier time for multiple conclusions. Furthermore, sports already end late enough and now it would end even later which means more tired parents/guardians. Also, kids with jobs after school. Many kids have responsibilities at home as for paying bills or contributing certain needs. Importantly, family time is a priority for students. One may have to get siblings off the bus and one cannot to that at a later time in the day. Picture elementary kids getting out extremely late; they will not even be able to play and go through the child lifestyle with homework, eat, and sleep.
