Banning Guns Completely Guns have been a major problem for years upon years in the United States. Many people have concerned about gun control and they are protesting strongly against “bearing arms”. “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention listed firearms as the #12 cause of all deaths between 1999 and 2013, representing 1.3% of total deaths. They were also the #1 method of death by homicide (66.6% of all homicides) and by suicide (52.2% of all suicides)” (qtd. in "Gun Control"). A gun is a big factor that threatens human life. People use it to commit suicide or commit crime, and in those situations it can cause death and serious injuries. The FBI says, “Firearms are used in roughly 7 in 10 killings” between 2013 and 2014 (qtd. In Simon and Sanchez). Considering the amount of gun death that involve in dire situations are more than in the cases that protect or help civilians. All guns should be banned except for military use. Dangers of owning guns Most people purchased firearms for self-defense because they feel insecure that they might not be able to protect themselves from criminals. They want to have a gun to keep them and their …show more content…
The threat of guns in the United States is astonishing. Guns create an unsafe environment for people to live in. They cause many deaths among the people in the United States. Also, the average age of the gun user has been going down and deaths or injuries by firearms have been going up. Moreover, the disadvantages of owning guns on citizens’ hands are far more than the advantages of guns. Gun is a motivations that results in gun violence. Imagine a world without guns. If guns are being banned, homicides would decrease, young people will not be able to obtain a gun and be in serious situation, and it would lessen many deaths that occur every year. Therefore, not just banning certain guns and guns that are technically illegal, but all of
Imagine... you are driving down the street to see your loving family. You stop at a gas station and a guy comes in. He has a bandana and bad intentions. All of a sudden, he loads a pistol and aims it towards you. What are your options? Try to visualize, a guy going to see his wife and kids, but when out of nowhere a person pulls you aside and then points a pistol at you. Over the course of years, ninety-three United States citizens are killed with guns. Due to these reasons, it seems it is necessary to get rid of guns because of the 21,175 suicides, 505 deaths due to accidental/ negligent discharge of a firearm. Guns should be banned for civilian use, due to too many deaths from unregistered users, misuse, and increased crime rate.
The debate over firearms has been polarized for too long. Gun law is a never-ending issue because there hardly is any true debate. Americans (and even gun owners) do support the governments efforts to make sure guns are less dangerous in violent hands, but that is the main problem-the guns getting in the wrong human hands. Millions of law-abiding Americans do own and do enjoy their guns. But criminals and sometimes-disconcerted kids often use firearms to kill. The use of firearms has increased tremendously. An average day in Los Angeles is four people dying in a gun related crime and the United States faces approximately 87 deaths a day. There are more than 200 million guns in circulation in the United States and if you don’t own a firearm, chances are that your neighbor or friend does (Fineman 27). Sure, the Founding Fathers incorporated the Second Amendment as “the right to keep and bear arms,” but it did not give the distinction of using guns to kill more children and people than anywhere in the world.
Gun control and gun banning have been a highly controversial issue since all the gun crimes hitting the news in America. Crimes like Sandy-Hook , Aurora , San Berdindno , and Oregon have lawmakers thinking about banning guns by enacting laws that allows them to. Lawmakers believe guns are the prime suspect in all these gun violence crimes and they believe it well reduce murder and violence. Banning guns well do nothing to reduce the mass killings. If a criminal has the intent to commit a crime nothing can stop them. Also a criminal doesn’t abide by the law that is why they are criminals. Gun banning would only disarm the legal law abiding citizen leaving them defenseless. Also the right to bear arms is guaranteed by the Constution and the Bill of Rights. If lawmakers have the courage take away one Constutional right they will have the courage to keep going, I have three logical reasons why gun banning well not work.
An innumerable amount of gun deaths have occurred in the united states as a result of weapons being in wrong hands. Fatalities have taken place due to guns being in the hands of people ranging from terrorists to children. Another prominent issue is that people are unsettled by the idea of anyone with a mental illness owning a weapon, such a depression or schizophrenia. Overall people are troubled by the idea that “in the United States, the murder rate doubled in the ten‐
Will gun control stop harm or protect citizens? Today, the opinions of Americans vary on whether guns harm or protect citizens. However, gun control is not a new controversial issue. In 1924, U.S. Senator, Robert La Follete, said, “Our choice is not merely to support or oppose gun control but to decide who can own which guns under what conditions.” This proves that gun control has been a concern to Americans since the mid- twentieth century, and possibly even earlier than that. Even with the U.S. laws limiting the access of guns, it has not stopped the misuse of guns. Thirteen school shootings have been recorded in the United States within the first six weeks of 2014. Gun control is an effort to stop crimes by limiting who can access guns. Guns are very powerful weapons that have a great impact on society. They can change a family’s life forever. The destruction they cause cannot be reversed or taken back, and one trigger could take a person’s life away. For these reasons, government interference is needed to restrict the harm guns can cause. The U.S. government should place more limitations on guns because of the carelessness and misuse of guns, which has led to an increasing number of crimes and violent actions against the innocent.
Contrary to popular belief, gun related violence is not one of the main causes of death in the United States. In fact, gun violence does not appear in the top ten leading causes of death. Nonetheless, gun violence is still a major problem in the U.S., and one that could be reduced with a fair bit of concern and better decision making. In 2014, the United States had a population of roughly 319 million people. A recent study revealed that an estimated 55 million American citizens are gun owners (Jervis). Based on production data from firearm manufacturers, there were roughly 371 million firearms owned by private citizens and domestic law enforcement in the United States in 2014. Of these, about 146 million were handguns (Agresti & Smith). This
If you’re a wise person, you would understand that guns kill. With no bans against guns, the murders and shootings that seem to be omnipresent in the US will not rest. According to a statistical analysis recorded by the American Gun Violence Archive, there are approximately 10,000 people killed by guns each year on average. This absolutely staggering figure purely displays the necessity for the banning of guns in the
Gun control is one of the hottest issues that has been around in the United States and around the world for decades. During the wake of many tragic shootings, this issue has come up as an important decision opportunity for our country to review its gun laws. Although many people believe firearms are the killing machines, which gun control exists in order to protect innocent people as the way to reduce crimes and brings down people’s death rate; however, guns are also considered as the helpful tool that many other people believe guns are the helpers in a time of crisis when situations have gone bad, and other people are unable to help. One of variety reasons people oppose gun control is because gun control will not prevent gun violence and gun
According to the second article Gun Control, Guns kill 3,000 people in U.S.⅔ of gun deaths are suicides and ½ of suicides involve guns. Which means that approximately 2,000 of the 3,000 gun deaths are suicides and 1,000 of the 2,000 suicides involve guns. From December 2012 to February 2016 there were 892 mass shootings that killed 967 people and wounded 3,498 (“How”). Which means from 2012 to 2016 3,498 people were killed in mass shootings not including other gun deaths. These are just a few shocking statistics about the result of lacking gun
The history of firearm dates back to as early as the 10th century AD, right after the Chinese invented black powder. It wasn’t until the 14th century AD that they were brought to Europe and the Middle East. Since then, these weapons have been used for many reasons: to put food on the table, for personal protection, to enforce or defy the law, to defend or acquire territory, and to liberate or to enslave. They have also been used for entertainment purposes, like competitive shootings, or simply for the pure enjoyment of gun collection. Today, Americans own about 265 million guns, and almost half of these weapons are in the hands of just 3% of the population (Jervis, 2016). Gun ownership has become a very controversial topic across the US, especially after the multiple mass shootings that have happened over the past year. The question then arises: should guns be banned? I think
In a single year, 2007, "guns took the lives of 31,224 Americans in suicides, accidental shootings, and homicides." These shocking statistics not only prove that violence from the misuse and abused of gun privileges are a leading cause of death in this country, but they also show that stronger gun laws are needed to prevent innocent children, women, and men from this. Murders can happen accidentally with a firearm if the weapon is loaded with ammunition and not locked in a safe. Nevertheless, if 30,000 Americans died from a firearm in a single year, action is needed to enforce stronger gun control laws to avoid this many
Ever since September 11, 2001, America has been on high alert, and understandably considering gun control, however, there are many reasons America needs the guns they have. America should not ban guns in this country because guns don’t kill people, they are used for much more than killing things and they are our right, and there is no logical way to confiscate all the guns in the country. Although there are many valuable, and viable reasons guns should be banned in America, there are many more reasons guns should not be banned in America. Many people say guns kill people, when in all reality, there are many components that go into firing a firearm. Other people may tell you that guns is only used for killing people, and other negative things. Then there are some people who will tell you that guns just need to be confiscated. However, people who say that guns should be confiscated from everyone, do not have a very structured understanding of guns. For instance, where they originated, how they have impacted America, or the safety they provide us with. Guns are not a bad thing, it simply depends on who is using them, and what they are using them for.
Do you think guns should be banned in the United States? There are many reasons why our society needs guns, our world is full of crazy people and they need to be able to protect themselves. Even if a gun ban was put into place, it wouldn’t stop criminals from owning them and killing people. The United States needs to allow their citizens to carry guns to protect themselves and their families. People should be required to take safety classes to purchase a gun.
Guns today are seen as horrible creations. To most families in america, guns are a taboo subject. Most Americans feel as if though guns should be outlawed. What people fail to realize is that guns aren’t bad! Guns are good for the country, and the community.
If I could take a cause, it would be to stop the gun violence because I have seen a lot of people dying with guns. Guns kill a lot of people which makes this place a non safe place. If there were no guns in the world right now, then this world might have been a safer place than it is now. I would/can change it by removing guns from the world. I believe that removing guns is a good idea because without guns, people would stop killing each other and this world would be a safer place for a lot of people. I could also make a difference by telling people why guns are bad and tell them to stop using them. I get a little scared when I see a gun because I think of violence, death, hatred, and bloodshed when I see them. I think
