Personality refers to individual difference in characteristics patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. One type of Personality is of controlling. It is when people possess attributes of controlling and manipulating others. These people have codependency issues meaning that they rely on their ability to control you in order to feel safe, confident and secure, but in doing so they unfortunately sometimes end up often making you feel lose your independence, making you feel under the thumb and ruining your self-esteem.

There are different types of controlling personality:

They are manipulative, they attempt to convince others. They control the situation to get their direction.
A person who has controlling personality:
1. They start overly doting and then taper off.
2. They try to isolate you.
3. They put your confidence down.
4. They get frustrated with questions.
5. They lie.
6. They try to change you.
7. They criticize others.
8. They don't take no for an answer.
9. They get jealous easily.

WHY PEOPLE POSSESS CONTROLLING PERSONALITY?
- Superiority:
When the individual want to feel better than others
- Resistance of controlling endeavors:
When the person feels he is being controlled by others, and then he may turn into a control freak.
- Apprehension of abandonment:
Some individuals are so fearful to be abandoned that they may hold others under their control so that they never abandon them.
To prove something:
Some individuals feel that they are unimportant thus they attempt to control others to demonstrate that they are commendable.

Furthermore, controlling depends on gender based too. It has been said that males are more controlling than females.
