Students need time. I’m pretty sure most people hate getting up super early in the morning to get to school. Am I right? Well I think it’s the worst. In my opinion, I think school should start later because it is better for a person's health and it’s better for students learning. One other reason why school should start later is because a lack of sleep has serious consequences. High schools should start no earlier than 8:30. Teenagers today don’t get enough sleep as it is. They need at least nine and a half hours of sleep and teens get their best sleep between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. But 69% of high schoolers get eight hours of sleep and 40% gets less than seven hours of sleep. Did you know that girls are more likely to get less than seven hours of sleep than boys and low income families are also more likely to get less than seven hours of sleep. Some school districts have found that a later start time decreases drug use, depression, drinking, and drowsiness. A later start time creates several advantages for students. There are less tardiness, better grades, and it prevents metabolic and nutritional defects due to a lack of sleep. People think that a later start time will have negative effects on the community.
A school schedule change will affect the traffic patterns, morning child care and work schedules for the parents and they don’t think schools should have that much power of communities. But the school start time will help kids in the morning because they will leave the same time there parents do when they leave to go to work and get to spend more time with their parents in the morning. Parents of athletes will also benefit because their kids game will be later and they won’t have to miss work to go see their kids play. I just stated a few reasons why school should start later, but there are many more. The main reasons why school should start later are that it’s better for one’s health, it’s better for students’ concentration in class, and last but not least it’s more convenient for everyone. Despite popular opinion, to be beneficial, schools should continue on their current schedules, and not start later. Starting schools later can have a variety of positive and negative consequences on students. Schools currently are at a time that gives students enough lesson time to learn subjects, but still have time to relax and take part in other activities after school. Also many families depend on the time school starts to have easy transportation to school and work. Starting schools later will take away students time to do activities of their choice such as spend time with their families, socialize with others, and participate in extracurricular activities.
There is multiple facts and reasons to have later start times help students get through the school day. BY helping students get better grades, test scores, and overall better. And teens these days aren't getting the sleep they need to wake up early and go to school. SO that is why school should have later start times. IF schools started later we wouldn't have all these tired and groggy students coming to school we would have students that are refreshed and ready to learn. We will have students that have good grades. We will have students who have better test scores. Everyone has always hated getting up super early to go to school. As children get older they move to different schools, from elementary to middle to high school, and the start times get earlier. In elementary school it was never a problem getting up but getting older, it always got harder to get up and the days were always longer. Schools start so early in the morning that it is hard to focus and students tend to miss more of their earlier classes and attend all of their later classes. Schools everywhere should start later because it would benefit the students and teachers.

That is just one of the many good reasons. that the start time of school should be later in the day. Some people may say that the brain is not fully functional until 9:30 is just a matter of opinion.
Don't you hate waking up early for school in the morning? Most high school students wake up before the sun rises just to become ready for school. Teenage brains do not begin to function that early considering many are tired from staying up late the previous night. That fact was extremely true for me when I attended high school. I barely was able to wake up, get dressed, and be in school on time since I was so tired. In my opinion school days should start later, precisely in between 9- 10 o'clock. If the school day started later attendance would improve, students will be more prepared, and student's attitudes and grades may improve.

High schools start too early in the morning, causing many students to be tired, and unfocused throughout their school day. First of all, allowing teens to sleep in and delaying start times would surely allow kids to get a full night’s sleep. As these kids approach puberty, their brains begin producing melatonin, a hormone that the brain conducts in order to sleep, on a delayed schedule. One of a couple high schools that starts class late is Manchester Gate, this school starts at 9:00 a.m. according to their schedule online at frensou.org/Manchester and they are released at 3:05 which isn’t much different from Mclane high school because in our schedule it states that we start at 8:00 a.m. and are released at 2:50 p.m. which is hardly a difference from 3:05 p.m it shouldn’t be much of an inconvenience to the students because most sports and extra-curricular activities are later on after school such as 4:00 p.m. Having this later start would be a great advance in this generation they could make better discoveries new and better inventions this later school start can lead to many new things that will benefit the
Teenagers need more sleep to function in school; many studies have proven that more sleep helps us learn better and that our teen brain works significantly different than adults. Studies have shown that the teen’s brain biology is different; these studies conclude that if schools want ready students, they need to be well rested. With not enough sleep, teens are in danger of mental and physical health problems. Teens are more likely to drop out of school because they are not motivated to do their best because they are so sleep deprived to focus on school work. If our public school allows us even at least thirty minutes of extra sleep, we will be able to keep up with our biological internal clock thus being able to concentrate more, making an obvious change in our test scores.
In an attempt to help students to be well rested for the whole school day, High Schools around the country have been testing pushing back the start time to 8:30. Recent studies show that starting school later has a positive impact on kids grades and attitudes towards school. Though there are some downsides to starting school later, for example school sports that start at two, High Schools should push back the start time to 8:30.

After being up late at night doing homework and studying what student wants to get up first thing in the morning and go to school? In my opinion, not many. With the lack of sleep after being up late, going to school and trying to focus and learn can become a very difficult task, which in the end ultimately makes students irritated and angry. Whereas, if school started later, students would be able to get more sleep at night and wake up feeling more refreshed and ready to learn. Better focus and being less tired can also lead to having better grades, which would then help students have more self confidence and a better attitude towards school. For these reasons, I truly believe starting school at a later time would be favorable to students.
