Imagine living in a world where a common cold can kill. Thanks to the invention of the vaccine, humans can fight back against simple diseases and viruses such as a cold.Vaccinations have made many diseases that were once fatal, curable. Since vaccinations and inoculations were created, people have been living healthier lives and enjoying a better quality life.

The World Health Organization defines a vaccine as "a biological preparation that improves immunity to a singular disease." A vaccine containing a piece of the original disease. The agent of the disease is a weakened form of the microbe, the toxin, or one of its surface proteins. When this agent is introduced to the immune system it is sanctioned as foreign. The reasons as to why parents choose not to vaccinate their kids can fall into four categories: religious reasons, personal beliefs, philosophical reasons, and safety concerns. Parents can fall into different “grey areas” of these categories. Parents can be a hundred percent against vaccines of any kind and refuse to have their child vaccinated at all, or they can just delay the time in between vaccinations. (12)

Most parents will do just about anything to protect their children. Whether that means using a car seat or putting child locks on doors. Vaccination can be the best thing a parent can do to protect their child. An immunization can save a child’s life and protect them from serious illnesses and diseases. Diseases such as Polio have been extremely harmful to small children. Thanks to the medical advances of vaccines, Polio has been eliminated from the United States. (14)
