Often the only way that their parents can be sure that their kids are safe is by calling them. Imagine if there was a fire in a school and your child was the only one to know about it. He/she could call 911 or his/her parents.Or imagine if your child was stuck in the school while it was burning. He/she can call 911, her parents, or a nearby friends. The materials cell phones can replace are: dictionaries, timers, calculators, and other items that are usually used in the classroom. Students can improve their projects by using their cell phone to record data. Also, many websites can help students send answers to their teachers via text messages. But, cell phones are also inadequate in the classroom. Cell phones have the possibility to make emergency situations worse than what they would normally be. Students can take inappropriate pictures of other students. They also can take pictures of their tests for later classes. Most importantly, cell phones cause distractions to every student. Even though cell phones can save schools thousands of dollars, they still cause distractions during classes and should not be allowed.
Cell phones should not be allowed in school because children focus more on the phone than schoolwork, it creates more drama, and it promotes cheating. Cell phones should not be allowed in schools because kids are always wondering what their friends are doing and what is happening outside of school. Cell phones have always been a problem in school, from texting in class, to recording fights at lunch or in class. They’re a distraction to instruction time when the kids need to be learning. It’s not like they’ll get an education off of being on their phone 24/7, or texting their friends to see if they want to hang out instead of go to school and get their education. There are times when I would say using a phone would be tolerable, not fully allowed, but tolerable.

In this letter by Bruce Tranter, he explains how there is no reason for cell phones to be allowed in class. Tranter explains how anything that a student can look up on a phone, whether it be online or in an app, the answer can be found without technology.
