Many people say that you are “born to die” or that the only thing “guaranteed in life is dying”. Everyone always worries about death whether it has to do with a loved one or yourself. So many people face death every day and unlucky ones face it multiple times a year. Death is not easy to deal with and it hurts a great amount of people knowing that a person that has been in your life will not be there anymore. People worry about death and even fear it to the point where it starts to affect their lives. People say that they will pass on to a better place, but do these people believe in reincarnation and another life after this one? Most people live by a set of rules and have some type of guidance that they base their life off of; not knowing about death and what comes after scares a lot of people. The fear of unknown. People state that fearing about dying can affect how you live. It is a natural part of life and worrying about it will only make the quality of your life decrease. The fear of death can cause a lot of unnecessary anxiety that could be unhealthy to your mental and emotional well being. Many people that have adopted religious beliefs say that the life on earth is only a small part of the “external soul”. Paul Thagard Ph.D, a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Waterloo stated, “If I believed that life survives death, then I would be terrified at the prospect of an eternity of suffering…” (Thagard).
Many philosophical minds believe that there is no point in fearing death because there is no conscious after you are gone. “Death does not concern us, because as long as we exist, death is not here. And when it does come, we no longer exist” stated by a Greek Philosopher, Epicurus. (Thagard). The scripture is our surety that those who accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior then we will receive the gift of everlasting life according to John 3:16. The Abrahamic teaching of the resurrection is the foundation of the Christianity; And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith, I Corinthians 15:14.
When people ponder death they wonder about the unknown with trepidation. As a young man, William Cullen Bryant wrote the "Thanatopsis." His thoughts progress from the fear of death to the acceptance of the event. People should not fear death because everyone dies and becomes a part of nature.

The author of this book describes and quotes many other psychological thinkers views on the different kinds of fear and what contributes to the fear of death in man. The author explores several topics like self-worth, heroism, fear, anxiety, depression and many other issues throughout this book.
Death, and people's perception of it are a major part of many philosophies. It could be argued that the questions surrounding death and the afterlife form the basis of many philosophic concepts. To some philosophers, not only is the concept of death itself important, but also how people perceive it, and why they perceive it the way they do. Epicurus's claim that the soul is mortal, is an excellent explanation for why we should not fear death.
Many people seem to fear death, but philosophers such as Socrates and Epicurus would argue that one has no reason to fear it. Socrates sees death as a blessing to be wished for if death is either nothingness or a relocation of the soul, whereas Epicurus argues that one shouldn't worry themselves about death since, once we are gone, death is annihilation which is neither good nor bad. Epicurus believes that death itself is a total lack of perception, wherein there is no pleasure or pain. I agree with Epicurus because Socrates doesn't give a sound argument for death as a blessing, whereas Epicurus' argument is cogent. I would also argue personally that death is not something to be feared because, like Epicurus, I see no sufficient evidence showing we even exist after death.

When preparing for death Buddhist generally agree a person’s state of mind while dying is of great importance. While dying the person can be surrounded by friends, family and monks who recite Buddhists scriptures and mantras to help the person achieve a peaceful state of mind. Buddhism asserts that all being live beyond the various fluctuations of this life. Death is merely a passage to rebirth in another realm such as the human world, a pure land or the flowering of the ultimate nature of the mind.
Christians, for example, believe that souls that have lived by the words of their God will exist eternally in heaven as divine beings themselves. This conception of an afterlife is generally what we people who are residents of the Unitied States hold to be true. For American culture has its roots in Europe and European culture was and is still influenced by Christian faiths. Similar to Christianity, the Hinduism also eases the fear of death by presenting a life after death. Disimilarities present themselves in the two faiths concerning exactly what kind of afterlife is lived. Believers of the Hindu faith expect to be reincarnated after their demise, either as an animal or human being depending on the manner in which their lives were carried out.
Death is part of the circle of life and it's the end of your time on earth; the end of your time with your family and loved ones. Nobody wants to die, leaving their family and missing the good times your loved ones will have once you pass on. In the Mercury Reader, Elisabeth Kübler-Ross “On the Fear of Death” and Joan Didion “Afterlife” from The Year of Magical Thinking” both share common theses on death and grieving. Didion and Kübler-Ross both explain grieving and dealing with death. Steve Jobs commencement speech for Stanford’s graduation ceremony and through personal experience jumps further into death and how I feel about it. Your time is on earth is limited one day you will die and there are many ways of grieving at the death of a loved one. I believe that the fear of death and the death of a loved one will hold you back from living your own life and the fear of your own death is selfish.
Death is the one great certainty in life. Some of us will die in ways out of our control, and most of us will be unaware of the moment of death itself. Still, death and dying well can be approached in a healthy way. Understanding that people differ in how they think about death and dying, and respecting those differences, can promote a peaceful death and a healthy manner of dying.
I mean who has never been scared of death? You leave your home and your loved ones. In my faith I believe that my soul will rest peacefully and joyfully in Heaven with God, but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t be scared to leave the world I have always known. Dying doesn’t have to be scary because, “You’re not a wave, you are part of the ocean. ”
