The Titanic was the largest ship that could float in 1912 (Titanic Inquiry:1912). Everything was fine in the beginning when the ship set sail (Remains of the RMS Titanic Discovered). People called the ship “unsinkable” (Wels 52). They later found out that wasn’t true. The ship hit an iceberg on April 14, 1912 and sank the next day. With about fifty-six days of searching the wreck of the Titanic was finally found (Remains of the RMS Titanic Discovered). Captain E.J. Smith was the commander of the so called “unsinkable” ship, the Titanic. The Titanic was as tall as an eleven-story building and weighed 46,328 tons. The ship also had eight decks (Titanic Inquiry:1912). This enormous ship could carry up to 3,547 passengers (Wels 52). Even though …show more content…
Everything was going great until April 13th at 11:40 P.M. when the ship came upon a large piece of ice that it wasn’t able to pass (Remains of the RMS Titanic Discovered). The ship glided against the iceberg on April 14th (Titanic). After this happened, stewards told everyone that the ship would just be delayed two hours which made everyone believe that the ship was okay (Wels 88). But soon everyone realized that the stewards were wrong because the iceberg had actually made a three hundred foot hole in the hull of the ship (Remains of the RMS Titanic Discovered). When this was realized, women and children started boarding the lifeboats while men were not allowed onto a lifeboat unless no women or children were in sight. Sadly, most of the lifeboats were not filled to capacity. The bow of the ship dipped into the water at 1:15 A.M. on April 15th(Wells 91-96). While the ship was sinking the Carpathia, a nearby ship, was on its way to the Titanic to help the survivors (Remains of the RMS Titanic Discovered). On April 15th around 2:20 A.M. the ship finally sank (Titanic). Out of the two thousand passengers and crew on the ship, more than fifteen hundred people died and about seven hundred five actually survived (Remains of the RMS Titanic …show more content…
Robert Ballard on September 1st, 1985 (Titanic Inquiry:1912). They searched for nearly three months before finding the ship. It was found three hundred fifty miles away from the coast of Nova Scotia in the North Atlantic and about two and a half miles under the ocean (Remains of the RMS Titanic Discovered). The first sonar images were of a boiler. The sonar images also showed that the iceberg actually only left six thin slashes in the hull of the ship instead of a three hundred foot long hole (Wels 142). Many ideas came up on how to recover the Titanic. Most of these ideas were turned away due to expenses. Everyone realized that recovering the ship was too dangerous and risky (Wels 110-111). Instead of rescuing the ship, the ANGUS (Acoustically Navigated Geophysical Underwater Survey) was sent down and it took about twelve thousand pictures ( Wels 121). Later, the Nautile was sent down to retrieve items from the wreckage site. The Nautile had ninety-six completed trips to the Titanic’s wreck. Also, it was able to get about eighteen hundred objects from the site. Some of the objects recovered were: two telegraphs, a chandelier, compass, a wheel pedestal, one of the ship’s bells, a porthole, and a window (Wels 161). When artifacts were recovered, they had to be treated quickly because touching the air could cause the objects to crumble Wels
The Titanic was the biggest ship ever made in history until the night of April 14, 1912, was a night to remember. It struck an iceberg damaging the bottom of the ship, filling with water, allowing to break in half and the death of 1,500 people. Who is to blame for the death all these people? Edward J.Smith is responsible for the sinking of the Titanic and the death of the 1,500 people.
"We are all going to die!" That is what 1500 people were thinking when the Titanic was going down, and they were right. The Titanic was the biggest ship in the world at the time. The Titanic hit an iceberg on April 14, 1912, and over 1500 lives were lost to the deep Atlantic. The person responsible was J. Bruce Ismay. Ismay left the ship with woman and children still on board when he could of saved other people, he ultimately decided for the Titanic to only have 20 lifeboats, and Ismay owned the company that made and designed the Titanic and all of its flaws.
But one day the rumors came and everyone was talking about the unsinkable sinking they thought it was fake and so did the newspapers they said that the Titanic never sank that it was just a crazy rumor. But it wasn't a rumor, and when they got the new it was all they talked about for weeks many lost love ones in the disaster of the Titanic. People hoping that their loved ones were alive as the rescue boats were arriving hoping there was a chance of them being alive, but many were let down as the last of the lifeboats came many realized their loved one had
The Titanic claimed to be the ship of its time; one that would never sink. However, what the Titanic claimed to be was not the case because on April 15, 1912 the Titanic hit an iceberg, broke in half, and sunk to the bottom of the ocean. There has been debate ever since that fateful day as to how this happened to the Titanic. Some conspiracy theorist believe the ship never even sank -- regardless of the ships remains at the bottom of the ocean. Other conspiracy theorists believe the Titanic was actually switched with the RMS Olympic because of an insurance scam. Ever since that day, many scientists, engineers, and physicists have tried to analyze the problems of the Titanic; the reasons why it sank.
The ship, R.M.S Titanic, has been popular several different times in a little over 100 years. The first time in April 1912 when it first sailed for North America. This great ship was said to be unsinkable. Many errors led to the major tragedy of the Titanic, including the life boats were not all there or filled as much as they should have been, the ship tried to go full speed to break the iceberg, and the Californian ship did not respond the Carpathia had saved the rest.
We have all heard about the Titanic. Either we have watched the romance movie or done our research in a different way. No matter where we get our information from we know the biggest parts of the tragedy. The ship Titanic crashed into an iceberg on a cold April night on the Atlantic Ocean while sailing its first trip. But haven’t you ever wanted to know more details about? Maybe how the people who were on it and survived? How could the situation be prevented? Couldn’t they have saved more people? Well in the book “A Night to Remember” it has details on the Titanic you have probably never thought of knowing. While reading the first chapter some parts really caught my attention. One was when people felt the jolt from the collision with the ice berg people didn’t suspect what tragedy was to come. A girl named Marguerite Frolicher, who was accompanying her father on a business trip, woke up with a jump since she was half asleep she was thinking about ‘little white lake ferries’ landing sloppily which made her laugh and thought to herself “Isn’t it funny…we’re landing!”. They really did...
The RMS Titanic sunk more than 100 years ago. It was 102 years to be exact. Even after all of this time, we still want to know more. We want to know why it happened or was there any way to avoid the sad ending and many more questions surrounding the RMS Titanic. However, we know one thing for sure: the sinking of the RMS Titanic was the biggest and most tragic event of the 20th century.
The Titanic was built to be unsinkable, with 16 watertight compartments to help keep it afloat. Many people called the R.M.S. Titanic “unsinkable”, because of how large it was. To many the Titanic, being the biggest ship, also meant it was the best. Publishers Weekly; 3/19/2012, Vol. 259 Issue 12, p30-32, 3p. The ship was advertised as “unsinkable as reasonably possible,” because of it’s numerous safety features. These features included automatic watertight doors, watertight bulkheads and compartments throughout the ship, the most powerful marconi at sea and the Titanic was so large, that it was thought that anything large enough to damage it would be seen in time. They were wrong. Courier Mail, The (Brisbane). 04/03/2012, p38-38. 1.
On 14 April, four days into the crossing and about 375 miles south of Newfoundland, she hit an iceberg at 11:40 p.m. ship's time. The Titanic made an impact, two hours and 40 minutes later, the boat was lost in the ocean forever. Just like Jack Jill, and Bob Blob. They tried to get on a rescue boat and they were being selfish and wanted to be the first people to get a lifeboat so they knew they would survive and so Tyrone T. lll stayed behind. So then they got on a lifeboat and it ended up sinking/freezing because of how many people were on it. It was the most well known ship for all
“Another memorable encounter took place in San Antonio, when I pulled into a transmission repair shop. The owner test-drove the Olds with me in the pasenger seat. As we climbed a hill, the car seemed to be straining. I looked down and noted that he had one foot on the gas and the other on the brake. ‘boy, it ain't got no power at all in second gear,’ he said. ‘It's real obvious the clutches are burnt.’ His solution: rebuild the transmission for $395 to $495, ‘depending on if I can save the torque converter.’ ” –totse.com
The Titanic set voyage on April 1912 to New York. The Titanic and its sister ships, Olympia and Britannic were said to be virtually unsinkable by a magazine article, not the White Star Line. The Titanic was the second ship to set sail on its maiden voyage out of the three sister ships. The Titanic had been built a lot differently than most of the ships back then. For example, a normal ship was built with three funnels but the Titanic had four. The fourth funnel did not serve the same purpose like the other three; its use was for steam to be released from the kitchen. Another example was that the Titanic was the biggest ship at the time. The ship had received ice warnings at least six different times from ships but Captain Smith had ignored
The R.M.S. Titanic sideswiped an iceberg at 11:40 p.m. on April 14, 1912. Estimated to be able to stay afloat for 2 days under the worst scenario, the ship sank in less than 3 hours [Gannon, 1995].
The Titanic was a giant of a ship one of the biggest that has ever been built at that time. No one had seen anything like it. In, fact it was the biggest man made moving object that had ever been built. The Titanic was first set in the port in Liverpool, England. “The ship was eight hundred and eighty- two feet and nine inches long. “ With over eight hundred and forty rooms on the ship the Titanic was ready to go for all classes. The Titanic was ready to set sail on its long journey from Southampton to the Big Apple in New York City, United
The Titanic, which was 882 feet in length was strong enough to carry just over 2,220 passengers, forty tons of potatoes, over 6,000 pounds of butter, two tons of coffee, 20,000 bottles of beer and stout, 15,000 bottles of mineral water and hundreds of stacks of mail. The Titanic was legally commissioned to carry mail by the British Monarch and the United States (Microsoft Encarta). With all this excess weight aboard, thoughts of the "Unsinkable" ship going down never crossed anyone's minds.
