From Poor and Unsuccessful to Rich and in Love From poor, unknown, and a nobody to a rich, handsome, famous, and gentleman is James Gatsby. Later known as Jay Gatsby, he is the protagonist of the intriguing book The Great Gatsby by famous writer F. Scott Fitzgerald. In the book, this character is the center of the universe meaning that almost everything happens around him. Why is that? Because the book is about the unrequited love that Gatsby has for young and beautiful debutante Daisy Buchanan. James Gatsby is a successful person with an extravagant taste in life and a very romantic character. James Gatsby was born poor. He was from a humble, hardworking, though not a successful family from North Dakota. He went to college, but after a few months he dropped out. Gatsby grew up learning the hard way because of the bad luck that his family had. “His parents were shiftless and unsuccessful farm people” (Fitzgerald, Chapter 4), through this, we identify the thousands of problems that James Gatsby must have because of his poor condition. That, perhaps, helped him through his successful life. He was a very thin, good-looking and with good manners. But his physical appearance is just a small part of this man. Besides his physics, James Gatsby has an overwhelming personality that goes beyond just being a good man. He has the perfect amount of confidence and pride. Not too much to be an annoying person and not that less to be a poor person emotionally. He has the right mix of feelings and physics just to make him the man of the year and maybe in some future if he, lived more, maybe he would actually have won that kind of
