Why Is Queen Victoria Important To Society

Queen Victoria, born on May 24, 1819, former Queen of Britain and Ireland, and also a famous empress of India. Victoria was crowned at only 18 years of age. During Victoria’s life, she lost the love of her life and fell into a deep depression. During her years as queen, Victoria became a symbol of Britain. She symbolized British imperialism and British pride. All of Victoria’s accomplishments during her life made her a very memorable queen during the 18th century (History.com Staff, 2009).
Although Victoria’s life was very remarkable, she went through many negative periods throughout her life. One of the most negative times in Victoria’s life was when she lost her beloved husband. Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert, died at only the age of 41. Victoria referred to Prince Albert as her “soulmate,” and “The love of her life,” even though he was her first cousin. Albert had 9 children together, all of which married into other royal families. Albert died of typhoid fever, a disease spread through contaminated food. The loss of Prince Albert became a big struggle for Queen Victoria, and she fell into a deep depression. All throughout the rest of her reign, Queen Victoria wore black (The Royal Household, 2008/09).
Another negative part in Queen Victoria’s life was when her father died. Victoria’s father died a tragic death only a few days after Victoria’s birth. Victoria’s father, Edward Duke of Kent had three brothers. After Victoria’s dad’s passing, the crown was handed down to her because her uncles, George IV, William IV, and Frederick Duke of York, had no children, therefore, she was crowned queen. She was also crowned Queen because of her family’s popularity (The Royal Household, 2008/09).
Lastly, a very negative part in Queen Victoria’s life was when a servant died on her watch. During that time, Victoria suspected that the servant was pregnant. She also thought that the servant was having an affair, even though she was married. Victoria had many tests done on the servant to see if she was pregnant, or if she was a virgin. When the test results came back, the pregnant test came back negative, so she was a virgin. What had made the servant’s stomach grow was a tumor in her stomach, and a couple months later, the servant died. After the servant’s death, Queen Victoria’s popularity rate declined because of her mistakes (The Royal Household, 2008/09).
During Victoria’s life as a queen, her human qualities were very influential to her followers. For example, between 1840-1882, Victoria’s life was attacked, seven times. During these attacks, Victoria stayed brave, strong, and had a very courageous attitude. These attempted attacks made not only Victoria stronger as a person, but her followers as well. Everyone was very touched by Victoria’s attitude(The Royal Household, 2008/09).
Another trait of Victoria’s that made her influential to her followers was how she represented herself and her country.

If she wanted something to happen, it would happen. For example, it was said that during the 19th century, Victoria symbolized in British imperialism and British pride. Despite the fact that Victoria’s popularity rate decreased horribly, the few followers that she had left believed in her. Thanks to them, Queen Victoria became a huge representor for Britain, and she influenced many others (biographyonline.net, Tejvan Pettinger, 2014).
Lastly, Queen Victoria influenced many people with her knowledge of science and technology. VIctoria was very brilliant, and during her period of time, she engaged in many scientific and technology advances. Today, it is known as the stem age. Victoria was the woman who enabled the stem age. Then, because of Victoria’s knowledge, people were able to travel throughout the UK. A little while later, people were able to travel throughout the entire world (biographyonline.net, Tejvan Pettinger,

2014).
Overall, during Victoria’s reign, her life was very remarkable and admirable. For example, Victoria had a special talent for painting. Although she was never remembered as a “famous painter,” a few of her paintings were well-known. When Victoria painted, they were usually paintings of her everyday life, and some were even paintings with her dog. Victoria became admirable to others because she was a British monarch who reigned in the United Kingdom in Great Britain and Ireland, and she was an empress of India (History.com Staff, 2009). She also became admirable because she was reigned as queen for the longest time ever recorded, for 63 years!
Although Queen Victoria’s reign was 63 years long and she had a huge impact on Great Britain, Ireland, India, and overall the whole United Kingdom, she was very short. Queen Victoria was barely 5 feet tall, but very powerful, in other words, “Small but Mighty.” Victoria had also claimed that by the end of her time, she had a 50 inch waist. Her “50 inch” waist was backed up by her unbelievingly big nightgown and bloomers. It was even said that in 2009, her humongous nightgown and bloomers were auctioned off to somebody (History.com Staff, 2009).

Lastly, one of the many things that Queen Victoria did during her life was run Great Britain and Ireland with pride. Like I said before, if she wanted something to happen, it would happen. She was one of the most demanding Queens. For example, Victoria always knew what she was doing because she had strong ideas for Britain, Ireland, India, and overall, the whole United Kingdom. Queen Victoria was very passionate about what she did and it made her a great queen (History.com Staff, 2009).
In conclusion, Victoria’s obstacles that she faced in her life turned her out to be the best queen she could have possibly been. She went from being a little girl whose whole family died, to becoming the longest reigning queen ever recorded in history. Queen Victoria died on January 22, 1901, and although she went through some bumps and bruises during her lifetime, she was so powerful that she made history.
