Poseidon is one of the very well-known Greek gods in mythology. He is the brother of Zeus and Hades. Poseidon was the god of the sea, earthquakes and horses. Although he was officially one of the supreme gods of Mount Olympus, he spent most of his time in his watery empire. Poseidon should be part of more mainstream media because firstly, Poseidon is a very alluring character and having him in media will have a good influence on children and young adults as he plays the role of a good father in Percy Jackson, put an interesting twist on the plot, and he teaches an important lesson; to forgive. Secondly, having a Greek god that is common in mythical stories but not in movies will put a modern day twist on media entertainment, lastly, he teaches an important lesson; to forgive. …show more content…
Firstly, Poseidon is a good father and good role model and a good father.
For example in the article “The lightning thief” by Rick Riordan (1), the author states that “Percy doesn't know if his dad loves him or cares about him. But, over the course of the story, we realize that Poseidon is very proud to be Percy's dad.” This statement from Rick illustrates that Poseidon is a good father because he loves and cares for his son, and a good role model because it could teach young adults and even some fathers a lesson.
Though he is a great father no doubt, Poseidon is also a very interesting character. Furthermore having a Greek god that is well known is mythology, in modern media can really put an interesting twist on entertainment, and may even intrigue more audience. For example in an article called “Poseidon GREEK MYTHOLOGY” (2) the author states that “Poseidon, in Greek religion, god of the sea” This statement illustrates Poseidon’s superpower more or less. If the media creators wanted to target a younger audience his superpower being the god of the sea would be a great way to engage
audience There are several ways Poseidon illustrates important life lessons. The most important lesson he teaches forgiveness. This is the most important lesson because not only does it teach you something that can help the person asking for forgiveness but it also helps the person accepting the apology as well by relieving stress. It can also help to understand not to hold onto grudges and that by forgiving yourself you are relieving yourself from a burden. For example in the movie Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief when Percy finally meets his father and Poseidon explains the situation he was in, Poseidon tries and tries again until Percy finally forgives him because he knows it will help both of them long term. This act illustrates that Poseidon is stepping up and teaching his son a lesson that all viewers could also learn from. To sum up, Poseidon, the brother of Zeus and god of water would be a great character in mainstream media because firstly he would be a great influence to all viewers and audiences, secondly it would put a twist on to modern day media which may intrigue more audience which could improve sales, and lastly he teaches viewers life lessons and morals. Media is the most powerful entity on earth, if it is portrayed the right way it can make a positive change.
...so associated with clouds, rivers, and oceans. Known to be omnipotent and omniscient, there was great respect for Varuna as believers thought the god kept watch over the entire universe. Because this god controlled the environment and flow of waters, it is believed that Varuna was responsible for upholding world order. Varuna is depicted on a chariot led by seven swans with an umbrella placed overhead. He has four arms in which he holds a lotus, a noose, a conch, and a vessel of gems. Ruler of waters in Greek mythology, is Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea and rivers. He became ruler of the sea after he and his brothers defeated the elder gods in a divine war. Poseidon is usually seen as an older man with long curly hair and a long beard. In his hand he holds a trident and in most cases is depicted wearing a crown while standing is amidst water or water creatures.
Although single parenthood is on the rise in homes today, children still often have a father role in their life. It does not matter who the part is filled by: a father, uncle, older brother, grandfather, etc...; in almost all cases, those relationships between the father (figure) and child have lasting impacts on the youth the rest of their lives. In “I Wanted to Share My Father’s World,” Jimmy Carter tells the audience no matter the situation with a father, hold onto every moment.
In the article “Stories of the Trojan War,” it talks about how the gods are raged by the disobedience of the mortals which caused uproar during the time (Peabody). One of the gods that seemed to have a raging authority was Poseidon, god of the sea. He made the journey of Odysseus very hard. For instance, Poseidon would make the sea’s rage, blew Odysseus and his crew off track, and last he strikes them with thunder. That ultimately destroys the crew; except for Odysseus who is left stranded until found by Calypso (Puchner). The actual cause of Poseidon’s anger was due to the fact that Odysseus had killed Poseidon’s son, Polyphemus in a horrific manner. Also, because Odysseus was not appreciative of the fact that Poseidon helped keep his secret of his plot to invade with the
People idolized these beings and built stunning life-like sculptures of them. Zeus was the most important of all the Greek gods and also king of Mount Olympus. He became a king after overthrowing his father, who was a titan and feared that his children would become more powerful than him. He is very well known for being deceiving, and a trickster.
The role of a father could be a difficult task when raising a son. The ideal relationship between father and son perhaps may be; the father sets the rules and the son obeys them respectfully. However it is quite difficult to balance a healthy relationship between father and son, because of what a father expects from his son. For instance in the narratives, “Death of a Salesman,” and “Fences” both Willy and Troy are fathers who have a difficult time in earning respect from their sons, and being a role model for them. Between, “Death of a Salesman,” and “Fences,” both protagonists, Willy and Troy both depict the role of a father in distinctive ways; however, in their struggle, Willy is the more sympathetic of the two.
Poseidon is known as the god of the sea.Poseidon used his powers to cause fear and punishment on people as revenge.Poseidon was involved in the competition between Athena and himself for the city of Athens (“Poseidon”).Even though Athena won Poseidon in the competition Poseidon and Athena combined their powers which built the first chariot and the first ship to sail over the sea which poseidon rules.Poseidon was also involved in the Trojan War Poseidon could assert his powers over the gods and mortals which meant he was powerful enough to fight in the Trojan War(“Poseidon”).
Rick Riordan’s ‘Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief’ focuses on Greek mythology and interprets this into a children’s story. Throughout the story, there are many references and adaptations to mythological tales, and each one is portrayed in a different way. Riordan writes this story as though Hercules, Zeus and Poseidon were still around today, and this would be the effect they would have on people in this day and age.
Poseidon is a god of many names. He is most famous as the god of the sea. The son of Cronus and Rhea, Poseidon is one of six siblings who eventually "divided the power of the world." His brothers and sisters include: Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Zeus. The division of the universe involved him and his brothers, Zeus and Hades. Poseidon became ruler of the sea, Zeus ruled the sky, and Hades got the underworld. The other divinities attributed to Poseidon involve the god of earthquakes and the god of horses. The symbols associated with Poseidon include: dolphins, tridents, and three-pronged fish spears.
I think that the main theme of A Father’s Promise, is that people are better than things. An example of
Poseidon, god of the sea and earthquakes, was most at home in the depths of the
Poseidon’s early life and childhood were pretty crazy. “At birth Poseidon was swallowed whole by his father Cronus”, so he basically had a really horrible childhood (theoi.com). Then later Poseidon was saved by his older brother Zeus. Some of Poseidon’s other family is his wife Amphitrite the daughter of Nereus and sea goddess. According to myths Poseidon has six divine children, a hundred mortal children, six nymph children, nine giant children, and three animal children (theoi.com). These children include Pegasus the winged horse son of Medusa, the hero Theseus, Triton the fish tailed sea god, Arion the immortal horse son of Demeter, Polyphemus the cyclops, and Orion sea walking giant. Poseidon’s weapon is a trident and it is said that the Cyclopes made it for him. Poseidon is also the protector of all aquatic animals and
He believes he is untouchable and above thanking the gods, because of this he ends up a victim of poseidon.
In The Odyssey by Homer, translated by Robert Fagles, one of the roles of the antagonists is given to Poseidon, the god of the sea. Within the ten years that Odysseus, a war hero, journeys home from Troy, Poseidon purposely threw Odysseus’ crew off course with his perilous waters. Due to this power and status as a god, Poseidon is not only honored by the Phaeacians, but also feared by them as well, notably with their plentiful offerings to him out of fear that Poseidon might be angered. Moreover, Poseidon appears to carry out the majority of his days in isolation, seldomly being in the company of other gods. Consequently, Poseidon, who holds power over the seas and gives birth to monsters, is depicted by ancient Greek culture as mysterious,
These two gods have different effects on the story: Poseidon is trying to cause pain and suffering for Odysseus, while Athena is trying to help Telemachus and give him hope that his father will return soon. The role of these gods is important to both journeys as Odysseus and Telemachus try to reunite their family.
A father is someone who protects, loves, supports and raises his children, whether they are biologically related or not. Every single person living on the Earth has a biological father.
