Oprah is one of the most well known and revered celebrities worldwide. What make Oprah distinct from mainstream celebrities is the entwining of the person and the product of Oprah. In each chapter, of Oprah: The Gospel of an Icon, Lofton compares materials from Oprah's many productions and religious culture. Oprah Gail Winfrey born January 29, 1954 is well-known for one the best talk shows called “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and is renowned for her supporting to charities and creating her own “Angels Network” aimed at inspiring people around the world to make differences in others lives for those who are less privileged. The reasons that I have selected Oprah Winfrey are because she is the best in her field, has over come personal obstacles, contributed greatly to society and has inspired others to achieve.
Winfrey’s early life was filled with arduous hurdles from the beginning, she was raised in a small podunk town in Mississippi that was anything but safe for a young girl, but on top of that she was raised by a single mother who was not around nearly enough. However the most formidable part of her upbringing was, she was sexually abused by ‘family friends’ and relatives on multiple occasions starting from the age of just nine. At twelve she was sent away to middle Tennessee to live with her father, there she realised her passion, she began giving speeches in front of her church and ultimately came to the conclusion that she wanted to speak for a living. Without her parents divorce Winfrey might have never figured out her passion of speaking to people until it was too late, this was a hidden advantage in the making of her success. However all too soon she had to leave the comfort of her father’s home where she could pursue her interest and journey back to her mother, where she was sadly yet again

Oprah Winfrey, a public figure known among Americans and others around the world, rose to success from a poor young girl to one of the wealthiest top-rated daytime talk show hosts of her time. Her entrepreneurial success has been contributed to her ability to overcome barriers as a minority. As an African-American woman, she faced discrimination and entrepreneurial obstacles that should have discouraged her from pursuing her dream. Through her passion, perseverance, and hard work, Oprah successfully started her own production company, Harpo Productions, Inc., which now has grown into an empire. As a minority entrepreneur, inspires others to pursue their dreams no matter how unfeasible it may seem.
Oprah Winfrey lived a very rough early life until Vernon Winfrey took her into good hands. She lived in Kosciusko, Missippi for the first 6 years of her life, and then she moved to Milwaukee to live with her mother who was a housemaid. When Oprah lived with her mother she was sexually molested during the daytime when her mother would work the long days. This abuse went on everyday possible for 4 years until she was out on her own at age 14. Oprah had given birth to a baby, which had unexpectedly died during infancy. During her childhood years living with her mother, Oprah had very little money and life was difficult. She wants to help as many children as possible grow up in a sound, safe, and educational environment. Oprah has changed the world with all of her organizations and charity efforts. Oprah Winfrey has helped thousands of children attend school with her scholarships that she has funded. Many of these children would never go to school or continue their college career without her amazing efforts of providing financial support to these children. Free enterprise is an economic system in which private business operates in competition and largely free of state control. A free enterprise system provides individuals the opportunity to make their own economic decisions, without restrictions from the government. It allows the supply and demand of consumers to determine the success or failure of an economic endeavor.
One major way someone can sometimes help people dealing with terrible life experiences is to share their own similar bad experiences to relate to the suffering person that they are not alone. Oprah Winfrey is a great example of the above. She is a great example because by sharing her unpleasant life story to not only a person that was dealing with similar problems, Oprah shared a very personal part of her life during a live interview session reaching hundreds of people. Her story got around her followers and turned Oprah into the woman she is today and helped her become even more famous. She helps people heal by understanding them. She gets people to share their stories about their rough childhood and helps them to cope by speaking from her own experiences. Oprah Winfrey over the years helped many people and changed lives by sharing her story with the world about her difficult childhood which turned her into the person she is today.

Topics about weight have always interested the public, and Oprah was one individual who discussed it for the world to put their input in. She has talked about her own weight and made it clear how diet and exercise is important for the body. She strived to put the message in people’s ear’s that being healthy is what’s right. The next topic is reading, and this came from her “Oprah 's Book Club”. Oprah has always believed that reading is a fundamental skill and she wanted others to hop on the bandwagon and expand their knowledge. She started this book club for many reasons and it surely brought change to society. Give Big is the next topic of discussion and this changed society in a positive way. In 1997, Oprah wanted her viewers to make a difference in other people’s lives by donating their spare change. Shortly after that, she transformed that into the charity known as “Oprah 's Angel Network”. This charity was a huge success and has helped a lot of individuals in need.
