Why Is It Important To Go To College

Support is vital to the success of any student. Trying to go to college can be really hard without that support. It is what drives me to be an excellent student. In my family, my brothers and I will be the first generation to go to college. My parents always tried their hardest to give us the best education they could offer. They did not want us to make the same mistake they did by not going to college. They were always there if I needed something and stood by me whenever I was in a tough situation. With the support they gave to my brothers, both of them achieved what they the had set out for themselves. So now it is my turn to follow their example and achieve my college seeking goals.

From a young age, I knew I wanted to go to college, but I had no idea what it actually took to get into one. It is very hard to get in college and even harder to do it alone. A key element to success would be the support from family and friends. I have two brothers that were always there for me if I needed help. I had no idea what college was like until I went to visit my brother at San Diego State University, SDSU. My family was invited to a family football night to show what college life and college sports were all about. I was so excited. When we arrived at SDSU, we parked in massive parking structure. Once we had parked, we walked outside the structure and saw more buildings and more people than I ever could have imagined. As we walked to his

dorm, the size of the campus and the amount of people overwhelmed me. It was a culture shock to see how lively and social college really is. Once we got to his dorm, I got to meet some of the new friends that he had made while in college. Each one of his friends were so different. They came from all different parts of the country and all from different cultures. I find it amazing how college can bring so many different people from so many different places together. After he introduced all of his friends to us, we headed to the football game. We decided to take the trolley rather than driving there to experience how my brother gets to the football games. All of SDSU’s home football games are held at Qualcomm stadium, so it was easier to take the trolley anyways. When we arrived at the stadium, there were floods of people trying to get in. Most of them wearing SDSU’s colors, showing their school pride. It took a little while to enter the stadium because of the amount of people trying to get in. The stadium was huge. This is the stadium where the San Diego Chargers play. Since they both play in San Diego, they share a stadium. When we finally got in, we then found our seats. It was amazing to see how many people were there to support their football team. The stadium was broken into many different sections for this football game. There was the family section, then there was the student section, the band section and even a dancer's section. We sat in the family section, which was much more calm than the rest of the stadium. The band section was pretty cool. Every time San Diego State did something good, the band would play something. The section with the most energy would definitely be the student section. They were constantly cheering their team on with school slogans showing the passion they have for their school. The passion and love that these students showed for their school showed me something about college that I hadn’t thought about until then. They showed me that college is not just about the academics, but about finding who you are and what you want to be.
Throughout my years in school, college has always been my main goal.

My experience at San Diego State University helped me see what I’ve been working toward for so long. This experience provided me with a better understanding of where I stand and where I want to be. I have always dreamed of going to college, and with the support of my family, I now have a glimpse of what that dream might entail. Without this experience, I would be trying to achieve a goal I know nothing about. Now, I am seeking something real, something within my

grasp.
