What is it called to hide a gun on yourself? Concealed carry. Concealed is what teachers need to be aloud to have in school. This would create schools with more protection, lower % of danger and more secure environment. Just think if you were a violent intruder with a gun and wanting to kill teachers and students. Would you be more likely to enter a class room with an unarmed teacher or one with a gun that knows how to use it?
Teachers need concealed carry in order for protection. With the crazy world we live in there is no telling what can happen. Retired director of fire safety, E. Floyd Phelps, says teachers that have concealed carry could use their guns as self defense from violent intruders that enter the school. They can also use their guns to protect their students, which has been done in a few states already. It would need to be mandatory for the teachers to take a concealed carry course and become certified carriers first. This will give them the knowledge and know how to deal in a dangerous crisis to protect themselves and others properly.

Teachers with concealed carry will lower the rate of danger to the schools.
The statistics show that the 31 states that allow private citizens to carry concealed weapons have an average 24% lower violent crime rate. They also have 19% lower murder rate. There are 39% lower robbery rate than states that don’t allow concealed carry. The nine states with the lowest violent crime rate all have the right to carry. The bad guys know there is more of a risk to use their gun. If the violent intruder came in with a gun and the teachers had guns, he would be instantly out numbered. This would only make our schools less
dangerous. Teachers carrying a gun would be able to make their environment more secure. If a student attended a school that was in a bad part of the city, the student would feel more secure and safe, knowing that several of the teachers have guns. If a shooting would happen they would know there are teachers ready to respond immediately, not after 911 is called and the shooter was free to make his deadly attack. This will keep the amount killed down since these attacks happen so fast. Students and teachers would feel more secure because they can act to protect themselves instead of feeling helpless. There are many reasons why teachers need to be allowed to have concealed carry. Schools would be better off if teachers could carry guns with them in the class room. Teachers with concealed carry would cause more protection, lower the % of damage and give a more secure environment. The evidence proves we need teachers in schools with guns to defend and protect our students and themselves. If teacher had concealed carry, would the visions intruder be so willing to enter the ROOM to meet their DOOM?
Michael Eisinger an eighth grade science teacher says, "If a gunman is going to cause violence in a school, they are going to have the element of surprise," "My guess is that they would still be able to shoot teachers, students or whoever else they wanted before some sort of coherent response materialized. (Huffington Post) Arming teachers isn’t going to solve the problem. We still will end up with deaths in schools. The gunman may decide to take the professors gun as well, which will result in the enemy having another harmful weapon.
One of the biggest debates in education is how to respond to gun violence in schools. According to BBC, “There were 64 school shootings in 2015” (BBC). One response to the rise in gun violence in schools is to arm teachers. Even our President has mentioned “giving a bonus” (Davis 2) to teachers that The fact that the idea of arming teachers is even being discussed is disappointing. Bringing more guns into a school is not the answer to gun violence. Most people that defend the idea that guns will “help” keep schools safe have basically three points: (1) teachers will be trained in gun safety, (2) it helps deter potential school shooters, and (3) it will make the students feel more safe. Even though there is some truth to those points, I think that the cons of arming teachers vastly outweigh the pros of arming teachers.
Policies were put on campuses to make the environment, classes, and buildings safe and healthy. If people are allowed to walk around with a concealed weapon, the whole atmosphere will be disrupted. Not only would it distract from classes, but like and article “Why Our Campuses Are Safer without Concealed Handguns” written by Students For Gun-Free Schools says “The introduction of handguns on our campuses would inhibit dialogue by creating fear of possible retaliation” (635). This means that not only will the learning of a students be affected, but dialogue between each other as
Everyone knows that parents’ first worry is the safety of their children. With the increase of violence in schools, parents have started to wonder if their children are really safe in the school setting. Shootings like Sandy Hook and Columbine left parents, administrators, and educators feeling the need to be proactive towards children’s safety. Reacting to situations like these is not good enough when children’s lives are on the line. Administration has started to brainstorm different ways to help insure the protection of their students. The idea of having teachers carry concealed weapons has been on the front burner for quite some time. As a result of this extreme idea, insurance companies have started to increase or even cancel policies with schools that have armed teachers because of the high risk they are putting themselves at. Parents and administrators also worry about the idea of children getting their hands on one of the teachers’ weapons and injuring themselves or other students. Because this idea seems quite extreme, I believe there are other alternatives that are less dramatic and more positively out looked, such as having armed security guards in schools.
One reason teachers should not be able to carry guns because guns are currently illegal in schools; Guns are illegal because they are dangerous. The Gun Free School Zone Act (GFSZA) is a federal law that was accepted in the United States in 1990. According to the GFSZA, “It shall be unlawful for any individual knowingly to possess a firearm at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone.” In order for teachers to carry guns, we would have to discard this law. Also, the school board would have to create a new policy, allowing teachers to carry guns. Adjusting the rules would be time consuming and confusing. Changing the GFSZA would make students tense and distract children from learning. Citizens from CNN Politics say, “72.4% of educators said they would be unlikely to bring a firearm to school if allowed to do so.” This data shows that the majority of teachers do not even want possession of a gun in the classroom. School officers have the right to carry guns, teachers should just focus on education. Not only does it create a huge responsibility, there would also need to be a large financial investment to supply guns for every school. This money would be hard to come up with, and not everyone is in favor of sacrificing money for firearms.
... a high school student, I don’t take much stock in the safety codes and drills in place to keep students safe in the event of a shooting. I would feel much safer knowing my teacher has the ability to protect the class, rather than hide and lock the door. An educator is responsible for the students in their class. They are responsible for their education and their safety while the children are in their classroom. The safety of fifteen or more students would be much more easily secured by one person if that person was armed. Promoting teachers to arm themselves also prevents school shootings; criminals don’t attack a victim that can fight back. At least 60% of school attacks would be prevented with an armed faculty warning sign. School faculty members should be armed to secure the safety of the countries students, and in hand prevent the majority of potential shootings.
In “Vulnerable Schools Need Protection: Guns, Training For Teachers may be the answer”, published in a 2008 edition of the Chicago Tribune, David McGrath argues that some teachers should be allowed to carry a concealed weapon for protection. First, McGrath states that if a random psychotic gunman were searching for someplace to attack, his classroom would make an easy target. He feels that if he was trained and armed, his class would not be trapped without a chance of survival because he would be able to defend against the gunman. Sec...
Guns do not kill people, people do. The American Dream is being able to work towards and achieve whatever makes you happy, whether it be owning your own business, joining the military, or staying at home raising a family, but the only way to reach your dream is to do it without living in fear that your dream will be taken away. In the last couple years mass shootings and attacks on schools have sadly become a common tragedy. Those who have been victims of public shootings or any other life scarring event due to a criminal, along with anyone else who has watched the coverage of the tragedies on the news is somewhat living in fear, but if concealed carry laws were passed then living in fear would be significantly lowered along with crime rates. According to Mike Miller, author of What Happened to Chicago’s Murder Rate After Illinois Upheld Concealed Carry and Why it Matters, “three to four crimes are stopped by a handgun than are committed in the United States every year” (Miller). People would feel much safer knowing they would be able to defend themselves if the time ever arose. When we think or hear about guns most of us jump to the negative effects and stories we have heard. The only stories we hear about guns are how a person’s life has ended because of it, but we never hear how they save a person’s life. It is important to remember the commonly used phrase when talking about concealed carry, “Guns do not kill people, people do.” However, guns are an effective way of protection and states should not make stricter gun control laws because it is ineffective and creates additional problems in today’s violent society.
On the side if teachers were to carry guns students and parents may be more scared. “When violent force is upheld as safety, fear and silence creep in”(Corbett huffington post). “Kids get their hands on guns, and they know how to use them”( Corbett huffington post). “I have a patient who recalls his silent car rides with his father who kept two guns under the driver’s seat. Silently the boy watched, on guard, even though nothing ever happened. But then again nothing was ever
There are a couple of states, Georgia and Maryland, that do not require any special training when obtaining your Concealed Weapons Permit, this can cause people’s accuracy to be dangerous for innocent bystanders in the area. This can become fatal which is why many argue that the shooting should be left to trained professionals such as the police man. This can cause the public to feel unsafe because they don’t know whose carrying and whether they are a felon or not. According to a survey done by the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research, 75% carry a gun while committing a crime because "there 's always a chance my victim would be armed." This has caused states, such as California, to pass laws that don’t allow carrying a concealed weapon on a campus. They conclude that by banning guns on campuses it will stop shooting sprees on school property; however, a sign will not stop a criminal from killing. Rather than banning guns on a campus, California should promote concealed carry so that students can defend themselves if needed, rather than becoming helpless
Did you know the second amendment states that you have a right to own and use arms for protection? Kentucky passed a law in 1813 that prohibits the carrying of concealed weapons. In May 1987, Florida passed a “shall-issue” law that became a model for other states. There were 11 states that have the “may-issue” law which allowed permits. On July 8, 2011, Wisconsin became the 49th state to allow concealed carry. (ProCon.org) Adults who go through training and obtain a permit should be able to carry a concealed handgun.
Gun control is way too strict for teachers. To begin with teachers that have a concealed gun permit should be allowed to have a gun with them on campus. Teachers should be able to carry a gun on campus if they have a concealed weapons permit. Teachers are some of the most trusted people in society but I am not saying that they are perfect because they are still human like the rest of us. Concealed weapon permits take a lot of hard work to get because there's
Educators would make the problem worse because they could lose their handgun. Potentially causing a student to find it and could possibly harm someone. In article three it states 21 percent of officers get shot from their own handgun, now imagine a teacher that isnt train as much as officers. Article three also states that many handguns fire
After the most recent mass school shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School, there have been increased arguments about how to solve gun control issues. One very controversial idea that President Donald Trump proposed, almost immediately after the Stoneman school shooting, was that he believed that arming at least 20% of our nation’s teachers would help solve all of our gun related school disasters. His argument is easy to disagree with because we the people, cannot believe that it would be the best solution for our nation. Having every teacher in America carry a gun during school is not economically feasible.
They say that having the gun in the classroom would make it safer. I say that it would cause more danger to the children if there were to be a gun in the classroom. One main problem would be how would the teachers keep the gun protected. It sounds pretty easy for the teacher to be able to watch the gun, but if the teacher went outside the classroom for something a student could be able to get to the gun. The student could take the gun and steal it and that is one of the problems that would occur.
