Gun control is a very hot topic in politics today. Some people think gun control is necessary to protect the people but nothing could be further from the truth. Gun control needs to be more relaxed if we are to prevent crime from happening at all. If more people are enabled to legally carry guns than more crimes will to stopped before they even happen, creating a better and safer society. No matter how much gun control legislation is passed criminals will still find a way to get ahold of weapons so it is necessary to ensure the American people are armed to fight such people. Ever since the Second Amendment was crafted it has been debated. This is mentioned in the Article The Second Amendment “[The Second Amendment] is among the most politically charged words in U.S. society, the focus of a long and often emotional debate over whether Americans have the right to own their own guns.” When James Holmes shot and killed twelve individuals and injured countless more the gun control debate was reignited. Almost every time a mass shooting occurs the President makes a statement on the issue, there is always extensive media coverage because everyone is affected by that sort of coverage. Its also very common for such events to be used to promote officials personal political agenda. Very rarely is a shooting focused on the shooter, usually people focus in on the weapon. The most important of the two being self-defence. “Self-defense should be legal in all cases, in all environments and at all times, and the new laws ensure that right, they contend. Supporters further assert that the laws are based on common sense: If a criminal attacks a person, that person should be able to respond in kind without having to retreat first.” (“Self Defence Laws”). This article Self Defence Laws mentions that self defence laws are dangerous because it promotes a shoot first ask questions later mentality. This statement is logically flawed because self-defence laws will do nothing but allow individuals to defend themselves. The real danger arises from criminals who think they can break into homes and have no fear of being killed. Self-Defence should be promoted not because it supports killing other but because it allows citizens to defend their property without the fear of personally being charged with a crime. Ultimately if a person fears for their life they should be free to defend themselves by all means
