Gay Marriage: it’s the person right to marry whomever they please to marry
Gay Marriage is a very controversial topic in today's world, many people have different opinions on it. There is nothing wrong with gay marriage, like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “marriage is a basic human right. You cannot tell people they cannot fall in love.” Even though he was referring to marriage between races, this can mean the same for homosexuals. What he is saying is that you cannot tell a person who to love, it just doesn’t work like that... love is something that is personal and you know what love is when it comes around, so to say that gay marriage "is wrong", or "not true love" you are wrong and could be ruining another person's love life. People have their different beliefs on marriage, some people believe marriage should be between man and woman, and other believe same-sex marriage is not a problem. People who don’t believe in gay marriage should stop being one sided and look at the big picture. Marriage is about love, not gender. People who fall in love, tend to build up a great bond with one another, and end up marrying each other later on in life. For example, if two men or woman fall in love, how can you stop them from wanting to get married...? It just doesn’t work like that, you can't control people's emotions and feelings. Like psychologists Janice R. Levine and Howard J. Markman said... "Chemistry is the inexplicable, ineffable magic that happens when two people are profoundly attracted to each other, magnetized by each other's voice, smell, body and gestures and infused by a feeling that one has hit the equivalent of the mate lottery and stumbled upon the right fit. There are biologically borne effects when a chemistry combusts between two people: feelings of pleasure, a quickened heartbeat and euphoria, elicited by the brain's love chemicals dopamine, norepinephrine and phenylethylamine." This is why people fall in love, love is basically a drug. This is a good example why you cannot stop people from loving one another, it is almost impossible. People who are usually against gay marriage always look back at this factor, they see nothing positive coming from this aspect of gay marriage. Some people feel like children who grow up with same sex parents will not have that regular home life-style, and that they will be a negative factor as they grow to be older. Studies showed that many kids with same-sex partners had to receive some sort of assistance, such as welfare. Mark Regnerus, an associate professor of sociology at The University of Texas at Austin went deeper into his research, he stated that "Sixty-nine percent of children of lesbian mothers reported that their family received public assistance, such as welfare at some point, compared with 17 percent from intact biological families. About half of children of an intact biological family said they were employed full-time, compared with 26 percent of those born to a lesbian mother. Fourteen percent of kids of a lesbian mom spent time in foster care at some point, compared with 2 percent of the rest of the children studied. Overall, less than 2 percent of all respondents who said their mother had a same-sex relationship reported living with their mom and her partner for all 18 years of their childhood.” This research is a one of many reasons that people say children with same-sex parents have nothing good to look forward to in the future. What you have to keep in consideration is that there is also research that

Marriage, for years has been argued that the rights to it or strictly only between a man and a women. Both sexes are assumed to marry someone of the opposite sex. What if, however, an individual wanted to marry someone of the same sex? Why is this debate so heavily heated amongst individuals? Is it that religion is a large structure base that those in society are guided by? Or is it that individuals do not understand that marriage is a union between two individuals who are in love? Whatever the case may be, there is always someone who has to argue that homosexual marriage is “wrong.”
In recent years, same-sex relationships have become more encompassing in US society. State legislation is changing such as accepting gay marriages, enforcing anti-discrimination laws, and legal gay adoptions; the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community is becoming public. Gay-headed families, like heterosexuals, are diverse and varying in different forms. Whether a created family is from previous heterosexual relationships, artificial insemination, or adoption, it deserves the same legal rights heterosexual families enjoy. Full adoption rights needs to be legalized in all states to provide a stable family life for children because sexual orientation does not determine parenting skills, children placed with homosexual parents have better well-being than those in foster care, and there are thousands of children waiting for good homes.
Even in heterosexual couples, they can 't help and choose who they fall in love with; It just happens. It 's the same concept with homosexual couples. They can 't choose who they 'll fall in love with, love is just something that happens. It 's unexpected and unpredictable. Who are we to tell two people they can 't complete their love by getting married only because they are a homosexual couple. Gay marriage isn 't hurting anyone else. It 's providing happiness for two people who are in love with each other. After all, that 's what marriage is about; love and care for one
As an American citizen, a person should be entitled to marry whoever they choose, regardless of gender or sexual preference. Gay marriage is something that some people consider to be taboo while other people are very supportive of it; I am one of the latter. The ability to marry someone is a basic human right and it should not be taken away from someone because they love a person of the same gender. One of the main reasons that gay marriage is illegal in the United States is because of what the Bible says about it, regardless of the fact that the first Amendment of the US Constitution says that there is to be a separation between church and state. Approximately three point eight percent of the United States population is made up of people
Many people’s opinion on gay marriage is that same-sex marriage violates the “true” intentions of marriage, which “should” be between a man and a woman, but a more broad definition of marriage would be “(broadly) any of the diverse forms of interpersonal union established in various parts of the world to form a familial bond that is recognized legally, religiously, or socially, granting the participating partners mutual conjugal rights and responsibilities”
Since the 1970s, studies on the effect of same-sex parenting on children have been conducted in the United States. Sociological debates have occurred from the idea of allowing same-sex couples to parent. Some groups feel that allowing this would undermine the traditional ideology of marriage and skew the perception of gender roles for their children. Sociologists continue to produce empirical research that studies samples of the approximately 125,000 same-sex couples raising nearly 220,000 children and comparing their roles as parents and the adult personalities of their children to children raised by heterosexual couples. Current scientific research comparing the outcomes of children raised by gay or lesbian parents with children of heterosexual parents consistently shows that same-sex parents are just as capable of raising “psychologically healthy and well-adjusted” children as heterosexual parents. Research comparing children raised by same-sex couples and heterosexual couples found no differences in the adjustment or mental health of these children as adults.
There indicators of child developmental outcomes were categorized into parent and child relationship quality, children’s cognitive development, children’s gender role behavior, children’s gender identity, children’s sexual preference, and children’s social and emotional development. There analysis showed that children with same-sex parents fared equally to children raised by heterosexual parents when comparing developmental outcomes. Same-sex parents also reported a significantly better relationship with their children than heterosexual parents, which was measured by the parent or child perception of the quality of their relationship. This goes back to the argument that parent sexuality has no impact on the child but rather the relationship between the parent and the child has is the most impactful. In Crowl, Ahn and Baker (2008) meta-analysis study also found that the parent sexual orientation had no effect on gender identity, cognitive development, psychological adjustment, and sexual
What would it be like for hate and discrimination to follow someone all because of their preference on love? Same-sex couples fall in love only to realize that they are not “supposed” to be together. These couples cannot even enjoy every day activities that other couples may take for granted. Many same-sex couples are discriminated against because they are not what others consider the social norm. The religion in which many Americans believe in is Catholic. The general outlines to Catholic religion are referenced throughout the bible; nowhere in the bible does it say that same-sex marriage is at all acceptable. Therefore many religious minorities believe that marriage is only acceptable between a man and a woman. If America prides itself on being the home of freedom and hope, anyone who is truly in love should be married when they want to be. If all marriages were treated equally, America could live up to being the home of the free. By denying same-sex unions America is violating the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. Hence, denying same-sex couples the right to be married is unconstitutional.
However that is only really put that to test when others state that gays and lesbians cannot get married because of who they are or who they choose to be. Love is a strong feeling and to know who others want to spend the rest of their life with due to the emotions that they share and the spouse share are just not possible. Though people may believe that everyone gets the chance to have a happy marriage that is not true to everybody in the world. The gays and lesbians have to follow the law that is set. Though many states have vetoed this law and allowed gay marriages there are still more than 25% of the states who have yet to consider if the law be vetoed or if they just not even recognize it.
In conclusion I argue that banning same-sex marriage is discriminatory. It is discriminatory because it denies homosexuals the many benefits received by heterosexual couples. The right to marriage in the United States has little to do with the religious and spiritual meaning of marriage. It has a lot to do with social justice, extending a civil right to a minority group. This is why I argue for same-sex marriage. The freedom to marry regardless of gender preference should be allowed.
“It is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married” (Procon.org), said Barack Obama the 44th and current president of the United States. The gay right movement started in 1969, riots, struggles, and problems followed after. In today’s society, it has been showed that people are opening up to gay rights. There has been effort in protecting the gays and discrimination against gays is now considered a hate crime and is illegal. However, gay rights still to this day struggle with state and federal legal circumstances. Same- sex marriage needs to be legal, couples who choose to be of the same-sex should be allowed to celebrate their commitment with each other the way heterosexual couples get to, both publicly and society acceptable.
There are many opponents of gay people as it is, and they all have their reasons to dislike the idea of permitting them get married. One of the main reasons is that the primary purpose of marriage is procreation. Because gay couples are unable to have children, they should not be allowed to marry (Schiffen 495). Another main argument is that the word marriage means the union of one man and one woman. This is a long-standing theme of most major Western religions. Under a proposed bill known as the Defense of Marriage act, marriage is defined as “a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife.” Furthermore, it defines a spouse as “ a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or wife” (What 1). Under these guidelines, it is quite obvious that gay couples would not be eligible for marriage. People against homosexual marriage also say that it is a person’s choice to be gay. Since the individual chooses to be a homosexual, they should not be given special privileges. Another argument that you hear is that these couples should not get married simply because of the torment and ridicule they would be faced with in their everyday lives. There are news reports from across America telling about how a gay person was beaten or killed just because they were looked at as different. Some of these people would end up the target of verbal abuse and maybe even physical abuse, just because some heterosexual people see them as different.
... made groups of people have a very hostile attitude toward the subject matter. The traditional view of marriage is also important because it influences future generations and teaches children the meaning of the special union of a man and a woman. Many people also argue that when raising a child he or she should be raised by a father and a mother. Not both of the same sex. Although the debate of same-sex marriage may not affect some people, this is a hot topic that has changed the opinion of many people around the world. The topic of same-sex marriage is a subject that needs to be discusses by individuals who are certain of what they stand for and are capable of providing others with true and convincing arguments.
In recent years, same-sex marriage has become a more controversial topic on whether it’s right or wrong. People should not feel coerced to agree with something they believe is wrong; clearly, same-sex marriage is immoral and unnatural. Many complications come with same-sex marriages including financial pressures, social pressures, moral pressures, and health risks.
