American society changes all the time; however, these changes may not always be the best for everyone. Often times the good of the majority is favored over the wants or needs of the few. Despite this, the passing a gay marriage rejects this common idea and forces upon all citizens a circumstance that defies the morals of many Americans. Gay marriage is detrimental to society and denies the majority of Americans their ability to uphold their basic morals. The amount of problems this decision creates far outweighs the few problems it solves. Firstly, a major controversy is that not all gays and homosexuals support the passing of gay marriage. Naturally, in our society, we make laws based on definitions; yet, the decision to support gay marriage by law contradicts the definition of marriage itself (Oldbirdhat). Therefore, if this logic were to be applied to other aspects of society, the law and order of American society would slowly begin to crumble. The idea of forcing all citizens to accept something that goes against the majority’s religious or cultural morals is irrational way of thinking on the part of the supporters of gay marriage (Oldbirdhat). This same irrational thinking would soon be passed on to the later generations, and spiral out of control as people began to believe that, if they protest enough, any progressive or liberal idea could be protected by law. The institution of marriage has always been described as a “covenant between a man and woman”(“10 Reasons Why”). By supporting gay marriage, the Supreme Court of the united states is deliberately and decisively undermines the beliefs of nearly all religions, and forcing believers to accept it without any protest. Furthermore, it forces pastors, priests, and churches to abide by the law which means they must marry gay couples even though it is specifically forbidden within their respective religious law (Eden). This causes grave amounts of civil unrest, and even incites the development of the view that religious institutions now defy the laws of the government which makes them seem morally bad. It is not right for the United States government to ignore the opinions of the religious, and instead support only the views of the gay marriage
