Why Is Foster Care Safe

Foster care has been around for a long time and throughout the years there has been a lot of reports of children getting sexually abused , physically abused, and neglect. Foster care should be safe secure place where a child should feel at ease and be able to be themselves and not live in constant fear or flinch whenever someone tries to give them a hug or a pat on the back. About 680,000 children are wards of the state and there is about 80,000 in foster care homes; which forces Department of Child Safety (DCS) to look into other placements; shelters, group homes, crisis centers, group home facilities, kinship, out of state kinships, and out of county/state placements. Statistics show, “More than 3 million reports of child abuse are made in the US each year; more than 5 children die each day as a result of child abuse. About 78.30% are neglect , 10.80% are physical abuse, and 7.60% are sexual abuse.” (Helping Hand). These numbers are a result of cases not being investigated properly due to not having the manpower to investigate all reports. Due to high turnover rates in in DCS all new employees do not have proper training because of the need of having them out in the field to work cases that are already open. If this problem is not solved numbers will increase dramatically , a lot of children will be cheated out of education proper attachments social emotional development, and having a place to call home. but DC’S returns the children back to their biological parents because of DC’S reports. This can benefit the child or not benefit them at all. Benefits that can come from it is the parent learned and made the appropriate behavior changes which corrected the mistake or reason for the removal. How it's not beneficially the parent has not taken the initiative to taking ownership of their actions and behaviors and not working on the solution that cause them to be in this situation in the first place which can cause the child not to want to go back with
