Why I Want to Teach I want to teach because I think that I can make a difference. I think that before you can make a difference you must have a passion. I have a passion for Art and Biology, and I want to project this passion onto my students. I would like to encourage the sparkle in the eye of a budding artist or scientist. I yearn for their faces to light up when I draw and explain the Kreb cycle as I did as a young student. I desire to establish high expectations for learning. From experience, I can attest that I only worked as hard as I had to in high school. I only did what I t took to get by, and did that begrudgingly. I want to show them a picture. I want to show them the puzzle. I want to break down the concepts or just show them one puzzle piece. Then teach my students to connect them, piece-by-piece, all the while building their skills one upon another. I intend to treat every child the same, and this means never giving up on any child. I am sure that there were many times that teachers wanted to give up on me, but there were a few that strived valiantly to show me the way. I hope that I can be that teacher for them. I want to persist to try to find the good in every child. Thus, I would like for them to find their niche, as I have, realizing that it may not be in the sciences or art, or any of the subjects that I love, but that they can find a sense of who they are in learning. I need them to learn from me, but even more importantly, I want them to learn for themselves, or to learn to think for themselves. I wish for them to find their own way, weaving through complicated patterns of knowledge, and to come out on the other end a better person for learning it in their own way. I realize that this might sound somewhat naive, but I want you to know that I realize I will only have a 50-minute block in which to make an impact. I will be expected to present intelligent engaging lectures, in which I will only be given less than one hour to prepare this stunning lesson.
...with our children effectively. We need to listen, learn, and influence our children to accept themselves for who they are. We must teach our children how to learn from their mistakes, to be empathetic to others, we need to teach our children how to be responsible, compassionate, how to make decisions and solve problems. Children have a better chance of being successful, contributing members of society if we help them to develop realistic goals and expectations. We cannot continue to make our children believe that they are something that they are not. We cannot continue to falsely inflate our children’s beliefs and expectations. When we hand our children everything they want on a platter, we are setting them up for failure and disappointment, at the very least. Society has inadvertently created self-absorbed, self-centered children with a great sense of entitlement.
Why I Have Chosen to Become a Teacher Happiness is not about being filthy rich, or about how many designer clothes I can wear, happiness is about making a difference in the lives of the future. It will be such an amazing experience to go daily to a place of work and feel as though I truly belong. Many people do not realize that if it weren’t for teachers, we would not have doctors, lawyers, and many other professions that greatly depend on the guidance of their teachers to enrich their lives. A semantic memory process is provided only in school, that will follow students throughout their lives.
My goal as a teacher is to provide children with a rich environment where they feel safe to explore, initiate learning, and feel free to express their feelings. My personal philosophy is to respect all children and their families’ cultures, ethnicities, race, and beliefs. I treat each child fairly to ensure that all children feel equally special, have families, communities, and educators work as one.
There are many reasons people decide to enter the teaching field. Some enter because they enjoy working with people or children, others because they like being off during the summer months, and still others because of their love for a particular subject. Although all these reasons are valid, I feel my reasons are much simpler. The bottom line is that I love kids and enjoy working with them. My desire to make learning a more positive experience for them has only increased with time.
Today’s young children are our next generation. I love to see how well they learn what you are teaching them, like when they learn to read. It is so exciting to them to be able to read! I still love to read to this day from being inspired by my elementary teachers. My teachers inspired me to be anything I wanted to be in life. I want to have an impact like that on someone’s life one day also.
It’s funny how quickly time flies by it seems like just yesterday I was complaining about writing the first part of this assignment. Looking back at it now, the reasons why I want to become a teacher remain the same. I want to inspire, shape, encourage, and mentor my students. I want to make the kind of impact on each and every single one of them that they will carry on for the rest of their lives. Whether it be simply believing in them, and telling them that I know they are capable of accomplishing anything they want to, or helping them through a tough time. My desire to become a teacher has increased tremendously the past 16 weeks, and I am so eager and excited to finish my education to begin my teaching career.
Helping others to learn has been an important activity throughout my life. Whether the person was a friend or a peer, I always took pleasure in assisting others to learn an idea or a concept. Tutoring is a learning method that requires a knowledgeable person who can explain a concept to a less-experienced person. I want to become a peer tutor for the LEAP Scholars Program because I desire to assist incoming students in their first college courses in an effective and helpful manner. With my academic record, experiences with tutoring, and unique skill set and traits, I strongly believe that I will be an excellent tutor.
Now that I have told you what has led me to this decision I would like to tell you exactly why I have chosen to become a teacher. I want to become a teacher not because of the salary nor because I want weekends and holidays off; rather, I want to become a teacher because I truly have a passion for making a difference in others lives. I feel that teaching is perhaps one of the most fulfilling roles in life. Becoming a teacher to me means helping to shape another person by teaching and instructing them.

The first main reason that I have chosen teaching as a profession is because I believe that it’s continuous rewards will help me to lead a happy and fulfilled life. For example, teaching young children is one of the few jobs in which you can give and receive hugs on a daily basis. Children have an innocence and a passion for knowledge that I find amazing and I do not feel complete unless I am around them. Teaching will help provide this fulfillment for me every day. Also, teaching is a job in which it is ok, and even encouraged, to laugh each and every day. I feel that this is important for a person’s well-being and I think that it helps to keep people young and alive. I feel that in many other professions the day-to-day routine would become monotonous and boring, and I do not think that I would live a truly happy and fulfilled life unless I could be around children. I feel that a classroom provides many unique and dynamic opportunities every single day and I find that very appealing. Also, I am a very relationship-oriented person and I feel that I will enjoy building unique relationships with each child. I plan on knowing every child as thoroughly as possible because I feel that this will help me to be better at my job.
I am a hard-working, confident and conscientious and have a keen desire to be a primary school teacher. The main reason I want to pursue this vocation is because I love the prospect of working with children, being such an important part of a child’s life is a real honour. I have been fascinated at how quickly they learn things, gaining an insight into their perceptions and how they see the world, the idea of playing an active role in helping them develop, greatly appeals me. There have been many factors that have inspired me to this career choice. Watching my teachers, both past and present, has inspired me to become a teacher. I have a genuine interest in lifelong learning and as such I have the desire to not only instil knowledge and values to others, but also encourage them to share my passion for learning. Social Justice and leadership roles at school, along with my extra-curricular involvement with Cowra Youth Council, have highlighted my ability to work with and for the benefit of young people. In essence I know that my abilities and aspirations will make me a good teacher.
Students need to be inspired to think critically. By this they comprehend what has been learned and be able to use it. I hope my students will be able to achieve their greatest potential that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. We can give our children these building blocks thru education to use in decision making situations, moral value of their thoughts and actions. This will guide them to realize how their actions and decisions will affect themselves and others.
The second step in developing an engaging lesson is to focus on the instructional strategies used to help the students understand the material. It is at this point, the teacher decides what activities they will use to help address the “big ideas” or the “essential questions”.
