Why I Want To Pursue A Degree In Petroleum Engineering At Louisiana State University

There are many reasons why I chose to pursue a degree in petroleum engineering at Louisiana State University. I enjoyed mathematics throughout my time in elementary school and high school. I liked the problem solving process which is why I ultimately decided I wanted to be some type of engineer. Growing up in Louisiana I was surrounded by the oil and gas industry. I have several family members that work in the oil field. Listening to them discuss their various jobs sparked my interest in the oil field and made me realize that I wanted to learn more about this career path. I also found the global impact and necessity of the petroleum industry to be very intriguing. I was aware that LSU had a very good petroleum engineering program and since

I know I would like to begin my career in the field because I feel as though being able to do hands on work and getting to see the process in person would be very beneficial for me. I am also very interested in the fracking process. Hydraulic fracturing has been around for a long time, but now that the United States has begun focusing on producing its own oil as opposed to foreign oil there has been a boom in the fracking business. With all of the new money that is being spent on fracking I believe there is a lot of opportunity for creating new innovative technology to make the process more efficient and environmentally friendly. I would enjoy being a part of that fracking movement. I am also interested in working with reservoirs which is why I chose to pursue a minor in geology. Most of my favorite classes at LSU have been reservoir related including reservoir management and reservoir simulation. I probably do not have the experience to immediately begin my career doing reservoir work, but I am hoping as I gain experience that I will have that opportunity at some point. It is important for people to find what makes them happy and try their best to shape their life around that. Being successful at work becomes a lot easier when you are happy and enjoy being there. Petroleum engineering is something that I find interesting and it is a career field that I believe I will enjoy doing. I also enjoy spending time with my family which is why I want to get a job in Louisiana and remain close to home. I would be fine with moving away initially to gain experience, but I would like most of my career to take place around Louisiana or Texas. Another thing that I will look for in a job is the opportunity for promotions. Working in an environment where promotions and raises are available will help keep me motivated. These promotions will only be attainable if I continue to learn and improve myself. I will not be able to attain any of my goals without lifelong
