In the process of getting my recommendation letters written, I stopped by my junior Physics teacher’s class. By this time, the full pressure of college application season had set in, and I began to doubt myself and my abilities. I showed my old teacher the list of everywhere I was applying to. He asked me what I wanted to major in and I said business. Not doubting me and knowing my potential by how I performed in the class, he recommended that I apply to UPenn. In fact, he himself was a Penn graduate, and said that in 30 years he had not recommended anyone else go. This encounter boosted my confidence in myself, and this is why I am applying and writing this essay today. He saw in me what I began to forget about myself. My whole life, people have been telling me how much potential I have: teachers and family members alike. …show more content…
In kindergarten, I wanted to be an ice cream maker. At 8, I wanted to be a forensic pathologist with my own lab. At 10, I wanted to be a pop star. I created my own album and could dance just like Britney Spears. In 2014, I used to draw out plots of land for sale on Google Maps and make house plans for them. One day, I drew out a plot of of land and realized that the acreage that was advertised was not the true acreage of the property, so I called the realtor and told them that they should get money back from the government. I was so young, that the realtor thought I was a woman calling. See, I know now truly that I have potential, but I have no idea doing what. This is where the University of Pennsylvania comes into
From the time a child enters preschool, teachers begin asking a common question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” That dreaded query has always haunted me, mostly because the way it was redundantly asked put a ton of pressure on me and my peers. The question was like a rusty nail being hammered into our head’s by society. I continuously had the cliché answers of becoming a doctor, teacher, or a police officer, but with serious reservations. After years of not having a clue, I started to think about what I like to do after the stresses of work and school were gone at the end of the day.
When people are younger everyone always ask what do you want to be when you are older? Of course when it is children everyone is filled with wonder about their answer whether it’s a model, astronaut, race car driver, etc. Now that I’m older it’s expected for me to know exactly what to do with my life and how to do it. I realized very soon that I sometimes can be an indecisive person when it comes to life-long decisions. This being a huge decision in one’s life you could only imagine how many times I’ve changed my idea on what to go to school for. Although, changing my mind become a norm, I eventually decided a degree in business/marketing is the right path for me. What are my career and educational goals, what will my job would be like, and
When faced with the varying career options of today, Forensic Science was a field of interest. This is a field that offers many similar kinds of jobs ranging from Criminalist to Fingerprint Examiners to DNA Analyst. One of the jobs that stood out the most was a Forensic Science Technician. This is because while the job is related to Forensic Science, it is more related to analyzing data from crime scenes than it is about analyzing crime scenes themselves.
Throughout my life, I had continually believed that once I graduated college, I would engage in an action filled career. I wanted to be a police officer, a firefighter or even an undercover FBI agent. I had planned on studying criminal justice, and I took numerous high school classes based on it. Nevertheless, my plan transformed the summer between my junior and senior years. It was my grandma that influenced me to transform my criminal justice plan into a nursing plan. For most of my life, I may not have acknowledged exactly what I wanted to do when I grew up, but I did know that I sought to help people.
I would like to be a Forensic Science Technician, simply because I find this kind of stuff interesting. A Forensic Science Technician does many things. Four things they do are run ballistics tests on guns to find the one used in a bank robbery; collect evidence from a crime scene to help understand the chain of events; match DNA samples to reunite a long lost child to his/her family; and solve a crime by matching fingerprints at the crime scene to a suspect. One of the top reasons I would join this career is because I want to be able to solve a crime if someone needs help. The second top reason I would join this career is because I watched CSI all the time before I got too busy with school, but I still watch it when I can. I think I would like this job because I always found it interesting to watch CSI and figure out how they solved the case. I also like to guess on who done what and why did they do it.
How many times have you imagined yourself examining blood or analyzing fingerprints? Some people do this everyday! They are called Forensic Science Investigators!!! Also known as criminalists. They work with Crime Scene Investigators(CSI’s) to analyze evidence to solve a crime. They work in the Law and Public Safety cluster.
Does a person actually believe the CSI television show to be real? “A forensic science technician help investigate crimes by collecting and analyzing physical evidence” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014). This is a field most people tend to find eerie; but not me as a child, I found it to be fascinating. The collecting evidence and taking pictures of the crime gave me a thrill of wanting to learn more about the subject. Growing up, my mother always encouraged me to achieve my goals though some may be unrealistic. Forensic science, the science part of the job is not what hooked me on to this career. It is the crime scene itself first walking in and seeing what exactly happened.
Forensic scientists work in labs where they examine, identify, and interpret evidence collected in crime scenes. Crime scene investigators collect evidence and pass it to a forensic scientist who uses the items in numerous ways to help catch criminals. Forensic scientists must also record the evidence and any tests ran on it in detail to prove the truth in court. A forensic scientist also has to be able to present his or her physical evidence verbally in court, so a strong communication background is important.
My career goal is to aspire to become one of the top Forensic Scientist in the country, and eventually become an International Baccalaureate Chemistry teacher. I developed my career off of my passion of science and math with the need capitalize on my capabilities and explore the nature of the world and be able to share my knowledge with the younger generation.
I want to be a Crime Scene Investigator. I Chose this career because it's something I’ve always wanted to do. Getting to help people and giving them justice is what catch my eye. all my life I been talking about being a Crime Scene Investigator, so i'm going follow my dream. You have to have multiple skills for this job. Two are good thinking skills and good communication skills.
I'm just taking it and running with it. I've figured you have read so many essays with formal language, over-the-top flattery about the stunning research opportunities and ivy-league prestige, and metaphors that make no sense at all, that changing it up a little may help my cause, or at least give you something to smile about. Maybe that's what the typical UPenn student is, and if that's true, hey, maybe this isn't the right school for me. But maybe it's not. Maybe, just maybe, at the University of Pennsylvania, it is the students who think outside the box, and when I say outside the box, I’m not talking about those hipsters with the thick black-rimmed glasses, skinny jeans, and converse shoes, I'm talking about kids who dream for the opportunity to make a difference their communities, state, country, and in the world. I’m talking about the kids who have it in their heads that their intellect is a gift of great genetics and determination, and with those two things and a little bit of hard work, they'll discover something that will land them in some textbook that will inspire the next generation. Whether it be in biology, chemistry, physics, who the hell knows, but the belief that you can change the world is so strong it shouldn't be
In this essay/report I will explain to the best of my abilities, my possible career path. I have wanted to be many things. In grade 1, I wanted to be a superhero, and that hope stayed out for a while. Later on, when I was 10, my brain started getting new ideas, exploring the world around me, thinking of other things aside form cartoons and I thought to myself, how in the world am I going to become a superhero? I started thinking of other jobs like firefighter, police officer, engineer, construction worker etc., etc. But then I decided it was no good. Then one day when I was watching an interview on TV, a firefighter was being interviewed and one of the questions was: How long did it take you to decide what you wanted to be? And he said a long time. Then I wondered how long a long time would be, I wanted to jump into the TV and ask the guy how long a long time was. Hmm, I wondered, how long is a long time and then I answered my question. “It’s going to be a long time ‘till it’s a long time, I’ve got nothing to worry about.” That question just flew off my mind until at the start of grade eight when I encountered this question again, and I answered it. It took a while and some research but I answered it. I want to be a Neurosurgeon when I grow up.
For so many years I’ve asked myself the question, “what are you going to do with your life?” For a period of time I struggled with this question. Today, I sit staring at my computer, confronting myself, asking my subconscious “what do I want to do for the rest of my life?” Have I finally found the answer I 've been looking for, or am I under the false assumption that this is the right path for me. This semester has been the ultimate opportunity to explore my questions, doubt, issues, and concerns. I feel that by the end of this paper I will have answered all these questions, and will have made the best decision for my future.
Crime today seems as if it keeps getting worse and worse, but without forensic science would we have been able to figure out some of the main details in some cases? Forensic science is any science used to help solve a case/mystery, which is very vital when it comes to criminal investigation research. While researching my project I discovered all the many tasks and difficulties that come with forensics.
In the college success strategies (COLL 101) class, we had explored various areas of future possibility. Throughout the quarter, We sketched out the big pictures of the future. We identified potential destination and explored the path to get there. In this reflection essay, I would like to talk about and reflect on personal development throughout the quarter.
