Obstetric nursing as an ideal career
This was quoted by an anonymous, “A nurse is who opens the eyes of a newborn and gently closes the eyes of a dying man. It is indeed a high blessing to be first and last witness of the beginning and end of life.” There are many different types of nurses but one specific nursing that I will speak about is an Obstetrical nurse. Obstetric nurses are specialized to work with women before and during pregnancy. They also work with women during childbirth. Obstetric nurses work mostly close with obstetricians and midwives. It is mandatory for them to be specialized in specific skills like neonatal resuscitation and electrical monitoring for fetal which is known as an ultrasound. …show more content…

They can work in a hospital, medical office, labor and delivery units, and health clinics. Employment and average earnings for obstetric nurse varies on the location. On the BLS website, it shows the different places and earnings for obstetric nurse nationally. At least 15,390 were employed in a physician’s office and earned an annual mean wage of 234,490 dollars. For an obstetric nurse in the medical and diagnostic laboratories, only 80 were employed and received an annual mean wage of 282,750 dollars. In outpatient care center, 1,160 were employed and they earned an annual of 228,790 dollars. Also for employment in general medical and surgical hospitals were 2,690 and earned 218,020 dollars a year. This shows that obstetric nurses have more opportunity with getting a job in a physician’s office than in the medical and diagnostic laboratories. The nurses are the ones that builds a bond with women. They are also able to gain the trust and relationship with women that are going through pregnancy or childbirth. Many women that are experiencing pregnancy symptoms for the time may have a lot of concerns which is where an obstetric nurse come in. The women will feel as if they are in good hands and are willing to allow you to help them. The nurses have the opportunity to support and fight for women needs over time and also have the opportunity to care for undeserved women domestically. Obstetric nurses also witness the results of the people they are helping such as the health of the person that is going through pregnancy and the health of the developing fetal. Obstetric nurses help society by helping women from puberty to menopause. They women with reproductive health issues such as irregular periods, ovarian cysts, and not being able to reproduce.
