Recommended: The role of a pharmacist
I am writing to express my interest in applying for the PGY-1 Veterinary Clinical Pharmacy Practice residency at Purdue University. After researching your curriculum, I understand that your program’s mission is to provide pharmacists with the knowledge of regulatory aspects of drug use in animals, instill a strong sense of ethical responsibility in decision making regarding veterinary drug use, as well as the skills necessary for compounding preparations for animal patients, and to provide experience in research and publications. These skills create a more competent and efficient pharmacy leader. Throughout my training at Texas Tech University, I balanced schoolwork and employment as a pharmacy intern at a retail chain pharmacy. While attending …show more content…
At Purdue University, the variety in rotation opportunities, along with the strong faculty mentorship offers the balance of support and autonomy that I seek. After PGY-1 training, my plan is to pursue a career as a clinical veterinary pharmacist. My current areas of interest include large animal internal medicine, as well as small animal primary care, as I enjoy the challenging nature of working as a part of a multidisciplinary team focused on tackling complex clinical cases, as well as keeping a healthy animal healthy with wellness checks and client education. I believe training at Purdue University will help me achieve my career …show more content…

Since I have been worked in Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland, I was not surprised with the work load and the hospital setting at Millcreek Community Hospital (MCH). With a goal of enrichment my knowledge in a hospital pharmacy setting, I am enthusiastic in accomplishing the assigned duties. I have very high expectation during these four weeks of IPPE rotation; I expect to learn beyond what I already know in the past and apply what I learn during the past year in to pharmacy practice. Arriving at Millcreek Community Hospital, I was not surprised the pharmacy's setting in hospital but I'm surprised the different types of work I received. At Veteran Affairs Medical Center, all I ever did are filling the prescriptions, stocking, and managed automated machines but at MCH,

I pleased to apply to the PharmD program as the program is one area that corresponds to my career dreams. Being part of this program gives one the opportunity to gain an excellent experience in working and collaborating with various health care providers in the ward. But more importantly, it facilitates a practical environment in dealing more closely with patients. Hence, it helps to provide the ultimate health care services to patients. Also, it permits me to carry on gaining different knowledge, skills, and values in addition to those I have already developed during my undergraduate studies. My interest in being a clinical pharmacist was first aroused during my SPEP rotation in the hospital setting where I was really impressed with the role of clinical pharmacists who provide a consistent process of patient care with healthcare teams to maintain the appropriateness, effectiveness and safety of the medication use. Unlike a pharmacist, a clinical pharmacist has a more diversified responsibilities and closeness to direct patient care. Moreover, provides
In one way or another, I have been taking care of animals my entire life. Growing up, I was completely dedicated to animals, caring for what could be considered a mini zoo. Naturally, as a child, I was set on a career as a veterinarian. Like most children, I was naive about the veterinary profession, but I had plenty of people to warn me about its challenges. Albeit initially discouraged from becoming a veterinarian, my search for a meaningful career not only revived my spark for veterinary medicine but also gave me the maturity and experience necessary to succeed in it.
I am pleased to write in support of Ms. Ariana Salva, an undergraduate biochemistry major, to your Pharmacy program. I know Ms. Salva from her academic accomplishments in my organic chemistry courses at California State University Dominguez Hills. Over the year of Ariana’s coursework, I have noted her consistent academic aptitudes. Ms. Salva has shown an independence and self-motivation throughout the time I have known her, yet through laboratory work, she possesses very strong interpersonal skills amongst her peers.
Students at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy are offered a four-year S.L. opportunity as part of the Pharm D. program. All of the participants report having an increase in their writing and oral communication skills, having a better understanding of those in need, and an increase in confidence in the work environment (Bartelme, Ticcioni, and Janke 1). Through these experiences, students are able to apply what they have learned in the classroom to real-life experiences. Experience constructs a good resume and creates a fo...

Despite being the youngest employee there, not to mention the only one who is still enrolled in high school, I have established my qualification to be handling and creating pharmaceutical compounds and filling prescriptions by achieving a Gold Standard Pharmacy Certification, and by maintaining excellent patient relations. As a high achieving pharmacy technician I was also invited to attend a methadone and suboxone seminar and training
I have been passionate about animals since I was little, I have dedicated my time to having them in my life. I have over 300 shadowing hours at a veterinary clinic, along with caring for my dogs, cats, and my bearded dragon. I also have been working since I was 16 in order to care for my animals, and help save for my college tuition while at the same time going to high school. Everyone has their struggles in high school, and it is okay to ask for help. I have had to several times, either from teachers, or fellow student tutors. It is from them that I progressed in my struggles and moved on. Even today, from what I have been through in high school, I help my younger siblings with their homework and teach them what I have been taught from high school and tutors, and I plan to carry these with me to college.
After I graduate high school I plan to attend the University of Georgia and later to become a Veterinarian. The University of Georgia offers an excellent Veterinarian program and I hope to be a part of it one day. Today to become a Veterinarian you must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited veterinary college in addition to undergraduate school and some jobs may even require a bachelor’s degree. You must also have a state license to practice in this profession. A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree can usually take about four years to complete and are generally separated into two segments.
Often when asked what they want to be when they grow up, most children reply a doctor, his or her favorite superhero, or a firefighter. As a kid, I always responded with a veterinarian, another popular answer among kids. As I grew older my answer stayed the same as my interest in the physiology, morphology, and behavior of animals increased. Presently, I choose to become a veterinarian and also to minor in wildlife conservation. I plan on graduating from college with my DVM/PhD to further the research of animal species and discovering cures, behavioral patterns, and extinction prevention methods. After watching the show Cosmos, narrated by Neil DeGrasse Tyson, it has come to my attention that in the Cosmic Year humans have only occupied earth for a mere 14 seconds. In those 14 seconds of the cosmic year humans have caused the mass destruction of not only
People seldom realize that they cannot sit around and wait to become the people they want to be; however, they must work hard to achieve the greatness they want or obtain the characteristics they seek. Many simply think that they are born leaders, intelligent, or athletic, but this is false. Ultimately, people are not born great at anything and cannot expect their natural talents to make them into good people; however, they have to figure out what kind of person they desire to be and work hard to achieve that status.

During my senior year in high school, I started an internship at Walgreens Pharmacy in Brownsville, Texas. This was a unique opportunity for me to find out if I would like to have a career as a pharmacist. So far, not only have I learned about my interest in pharmacy, but I have also learned from Dr. Leonard, one of the pharmacists at Walgreens. Even though I have made many mistakes as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee, Dr. Leonard always motivated me to do better the next time and stay positive. He always has a smile when he is working and looks forward to helping others. As a result of his qualities, Dr. Leonard assists everyone work easier together because there are never arguments.
