Volunteering is something you do not for the money, but for self-satisfaction that you helped someone else. Any time someone helps another without being asked they are volunteering. Many people volunteer but inside they really wish they were out having fun, but I volunteer for the look on the child’s face when he/she learns something new.
There are many different groups to volunteer with. One major group is the AmeriCorps. Each year, AmeriCorps has more than 40,000 members serve with programs in every state nation wide. Groups such as American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and Boys and Girls clubs are a few out of the thousand different programs that make up the AmeriCorps. AmeriCorps offers many different fields of volunteering from teaching kids how to read to building homes for low-income families. You do not have to be a part of the AmeriCorps to make a difference; there are other places such as PM Academy where you can change someone’s life for the better.
One of our local volunteering sites is PM Academy. PM Academy is an after school program for kids in first through third grade that need extra help in math, reading, and writing. PM Academy was started to help kids in problem areas. The kids are split up into groups by their grade. Each group has two volunteers; one assumes the role of the teacher and the other helps individual students. This year PM Academy has a total of fifteen kids and 5 volunteers; this equals a ratio of one teacher ...
volunteering is important in the public sector because it helps the public services save money other than the military as the military reservists get paid but it is still voluntary. I got all my information from the websites which are for the organisation. the benefits of volunteering are:
I began by tutoring at the Boys and Girls Club (BGC) and eventually became a teacher at the boys and girls club. The focus of my continued volunteer work was to enrich the children’s after school experience whether they needed help with homework or busy work. During my volunteer work the issue that stuck out in my mid continuously was social class or classism. The BGC emphasizes many different issues and points such as “creating aspirations for the future,” “Helping youth become responsible, caring citizens and acquire skills for participating in the democratic process is the main thrust of these programs and also to develop leadership skills and provide opportunities for planning, decision-making.” BGC encourages kids to engage in healthy and positive behavior as well as to help the youth build and discover creativity in the arts “Club programs help develop fitness, a positive use of leisure time, reduction of stress, appreciation for the environment and social and interpersonal skills.” (bgca.org)
...e school, such as; Pelotonia, Light the Night for leukemia and lymphoma, Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities, etc… For many of these organizations I have volunteered more than once. Volunteering at Light the Night has a story. For my 16th Birthday party, I wanted to have my friends and I volunteer in the day while having fun at night. So I had 7 boys and girls, along with me, volunteer for Light the Night, organized by me. The party was a huge success and a lot of fun. I look forward to organizing more volunteer opportunities for my friends and I.
Why I want to volunteer I am directionless. Lost in a sea of people; people who all seem to know what they want to do with their lives. Volunteering can help me find a direction, a path that I want to be on. Assisting patients and workers provides more information on working in a hospital than any course or the internet can provide.
Before beginning my volunteer work I faced quite a dilema. Where could I influence children, help them develop their leadership potential, educate them about agriculture, and have fun-all at the same time?
My main focus on volunteering is to help and/or improve other individuals lives. Whether it’s a small thing like shoveling elderly neighbors driveways during the winter or a bigger thing like running youth group at the local church and leading prayers. Not only do the people I help get joy from it, but helping others surely puts joy in my life too. Also, with the knowledge I have acquired through high school, tutoring others is something I enjoy doing because helping others understand something difficult is very important. During school, assisting teachers with going to grab printed papers or picking up excess garbage in the cafeteria after lunch are many of the things I do to improve the school and the people in it such as students and faculty staff. Like my dad always says, life isn’t about bettering yourself, it’s about offering your skills and traits to better the community and the people in
Since I knew who I was volunteering with, I was able to enjoy volunteering with them. It also helped me become closer to some of the girls. I also love kids and teaching them new things. In addition, the topic I was teaching about also interests me so it was easy to teach them something I was very familiar with, I also gives a sense of achievement when I am able to successfully teach someone something that they can pass on to the next generation. I loved the feeling I got from volunteering.
I have volunteered at the Salvation Army and have had some wonderful experiences there. For the past years I have been involved in helping children with their homework and I have read books to them. It feels really good when you see the children face expression when they finally get something it is a really good experience. The YMCA is another place I have volunteered, during my volunteering moments at the YMCA I felt like I helped the community so much. During the YMCA we had a chance to volunteer with the children’s hospital to take pictures around the community and write about what it affects us on. This was a great experience because it gave me a chance to speak up not only for me but for other people that probably think the same.
Tutoring kids is one type of community service. I can say from experience teaching kids to learn is a great feeling. I know because I’ve been tutoring kids for almost seven months. You’ll be surprised how it makes you feel. To have one of your students’ parents thank you because there child has never been able to make an “A” in there reading or math class. Just hearing those words lets me know that I am already making a difference. The place that I volunteer at is Casa De Amigos and the children that go there really look up to you. Yes you’re helping them to be able to reach their goals but you’re also teaching them that helping the community can change so many lives.
When I found out that I had to do seven hours of volunteer work I immediately knew that I wanted it to involve children. I attended the volunteer fair that was held earlier in the semester and signed up for programs such as Louie’s Kids and Wings for Kids. Unfortunately I could not volunteer for either of these programs because they were not in walking distance of the college and I did not have transportation. A couple weeks after that I saw a flyer advertising for “Reading Partners.” I attended an informational event that they held and signed up to volunteer at Memminger Elementary, which is about two blocks from the college.
Volunteering is an important contributor to our society. It is also a great opportunity to learn different skills, especially young people, and they will become a part of who you are. Your future employers will thank you for it, as will any college or university that you decide to apply too. It is also a perfect way for everyone to meet different people and experience different things. Volunteering not only actively will help people; it also helps the environment. Most of all, it allows you to become a better person for what you have
Volunteering enables a person to develop new skills that he or she would otherwise not have been able to develop. Unlike most other organizations, a charitable organization is happy to give positions to passionate, though inexperienced, individuals who desire to help others and benefit the community. Therefore, an individual with little experience in a field of work can gain meaningful skills that he or she can use in the future. For example, while I volunteered at the hospital this summer, I learned about the daily work lives and professional duties of doctors and nurses. Had I not volunteered, I would not have learned about these things. I was always interested in the medical field, but volunteering at the hospital let me explore my interests and en...
Thousands of homeless animals are looking for forever homes in America. Volunteering is a great way to give to your community and socialize the animals at the shelters. Working with dogs and cats that have not had good starts in their lives helps them trust again. It helps animals get over the trauma they have had before they went to the shelter. Socializing makes the animal more adoptable and they are given a chance to get forever homes. Volunteer at your local humane society 's and help out the animals like I have worked with in shelters.
A reflection of my volunteering experience can be summarized in two words: Life-changing. It is hard to explain the feelings that occur when you involve yourself in selfless acts for your community, such as volunteering. There is a feeling in your heart that you cannot ignore, maybe it is the happiness you feel or the overflow of emotions in helping others. In other words, it is a feeling in which you want to share with others. Maybe with a friend, maybe a classmate, maybe a family member, or maybe even a stranger. Either way, spreading how life-changing volunteering can be is a great start to making a positive change in your community by simply by involving others.
Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities. Just a small act can make a huge difference in someone’s life. The future is dependent on the individual person and the people they surround themselves with. Just a few hours will change both the volunteer’s life and the one that is in need.
