I have always loved working in fields that are considered “hands on”. I have always loved working with multiple people that come from many different backgrounds. I think having that around me, makes things interesting and helps me stay interested. I thought I had found my career choice for the rest of my life in nursing. However, life happens for people sometimes in a way you never imagined possible. In my situation, I became very ill during the peak of my nursing career. Due to this, working as a nurse was very hard on my body. I was advised by my surgeon and cardiologist that I should think of a career change or take my nursing career off the floor and start working behind a desk in the medical field. Working behind a desk did not appeal to me at all! …show more content…
So, I thought about it while I worked as a nurse for one more year, coming to the realization that the doctors were right and my body was not holding up and I wasn’t staying healthy in the hospital setting. I took my thoughts to my husband and family. My husband was very supportive in agreeing that it didn’t make sense to be in an environment with people who are sick when I myself, do not have a strong immune system.
The outcome was that I was able to choose a different career path that I might be better suited with healthy people around me. I decided that I would really like to try Cosmetology for a career choice. I would still be surrounded by many people stemming from different backgrounds and in a different way than nursing, I would still be helping people in a way. This time helping them look better and feel better about themselves after leaving my chair. So, I talked to my husband and he agreed that would be a fun choice. I am now a student at6 a very nice and very fun Cosmetology school. I love the students I am with. I love the teachers and staff. I am very happy with my decision. Now that I am working towards being a Cosmetologist I have to think about the goals that I want to achieve with picking this career choice. The goals I would like to achieve are definitely helping others, like I’ve mentioned, hopefully making my own hours, since I am a mother of three, working in a nice salon, gaining enough experience to be able to one day opening my own
salon. I am so excited for the day I graduate and earn my cosmetology license. Once I receive enough hours to be allowed to do an externship on Saturdays’, I am going to take advantage of that opportunity that my school gives us students. I want to venture out to different salons while I’m still a student, in hopes to learn the different ways salons work, the way renting a space in a salon compares to paying commission in a salon. I hope to learn how to interact with clients and other cosmetologists more than what I’ve already experienced in a school setting. Most of all, I am excited to transform someone’s physical appearance by performing a really cool hairstyle, haircut, color or all of the above. I want to make the person I work on each time they get up from my chair look in the mirror and smile from ear to ear, thanking me for their new and hopefully improved look. Once I graduate and obtain a cosmetology license I will be on my way to working in a salon as soon as possible. I am anxious to get in the salon environment and gaining a clientele, so that I can begin making my own hours that allow me specific times suited for a family of five. I really look forward to finding a balance between working, having alone time with my husband, having fun time with my children and of course a little time for myself and my girlfriends. Thankfully, I have a husband and family life that will help make this a reality. The hours I hope to obtain once I am a working cosmetologist in the salon are most likely, 9am to 6pm Tuesday through Friday. Saturdays 9am to 7pm, with Sunday and Mondays off. This would be ideal. This is a goal I will be shooting for. Eventually, I really hope to open my own salon. I am curious how long I should have to work as a cosmetologist before I should even think about taking the step of becoming a salon owner. I hope I wouldn’t have to work more than ten years in the salon before becoming a salon owner. My goal is to work no longer than ten years and along the way hopefully meet a great group of cosmetologists who I become very close with and eventually take them all with me to my own grand salon. Thankfully, my husband is a business man and can make sure the financial aspect of having my own salon will be a smart move at the time or be able to advise me to wait on opening a business. I would think that having your own salon could be a fine business even if the economy slows down. The reason I think this way is because even when a person might not have a lot of cash available for extras in life, I feel like you still want to look good or as good as possible. Therefore, I think women especially, figure out a way to get their hair done, even if it is not done as often as desired. That goes the same for keeping your fingernails and toenails kept up and your makeup or skin integrity at its best too. In closing this discussion, I would just like to mention how much I’ve learned in cosmetology thus far. Also, how much fun I’ve had learning it all thus far. I can only anticipate the joy I will continue having while learning the many different techniques in hair, nails, skin and makeup on my exciting journey to becoming a licensed cosmetologist.
I have always had a passion for nursing. As a child, I watched my mother getting up early, putting her scrubs on and headed out the door for a 12 hour shift. She was always content, and at ease to go for a long shift and even overtime at times. I love the fact that after work, she would always come home, satisfied with the day no matter how hard it was for her. She would sit and tell my brothers and sisters how she enjoyed the conversations that she had with her patients and what impact she had on their lives that day. Listening to these stories as a child, I knew that I wanted to become a nurse and listening to the same stories and helping people, making their day feel better. I wanted to follow my mom’s footsteps. At the end of a long shift, it is a rewarding profession, knowing that I am saving people’s lives, making them comfortable when they are near of dying, advocate and teaching them. As nurses, we care for patients through illness, injury, aging, health. We also promote health, prevent diseases and teaching the community; that’s what I love about nursing. I believe that this is the right profession for me because I have all the qualities that a nurse should possess when
From five years old up I knew I wanted to be a nurse practitioner. When I was around 13 years old my mom got very sick which had her in and out of the hospital, this only pushed me further in the direction of becoming a nurse practitioner. I would always see nurses in and out of my mom’s room when she was in the hospital, some were nice others were not. I always tell myself, “You’re going to be one of the nice ones, the one that makes the whole ordeal just a little bit better.”
Growing up, I was never really sure what career would fit best for me. I didn’t know which direction I was going to take and I always ended up pushing it aside because truly, it scared me. Coming into high school, I ended up with multiple injuries – I sprained my left ankle twice and my right ankle once; I also ended up spraining my elbow. This all happened through cheerleading and lacrosse. I was continually going to the hospital and started to realize what my passion was – being in the medical field. My passion for being in the medical field grew even more when my brother married his girlfriend, Yuko. She happened to be a nurse, as well as my other brother who worked as a physical therapist. Though I didn’t know what field I necessarily wanted to go into, and I still am a little conflicted, I knew my heart was in the medical field. One that I’ve specifically looked into recently has been emergency room nurses.
When I was younger I use to pretend to be a doctor or nurse. It was always fun to go around and check to see who had a heart beat, who was bleeding, and who was hurt. I knew that I wanted a career in the medical field, but was unsure if I really wanted to be a doctor or a nurse. I thought the only career was to be a doctor or nurse. Of course, the medical profession is larger than that. It includes office staff, EMT’s, nurses, physician assistants, and several other kinds of physicians. While the opportunities are endless in this career field, I have decided that being a doctor or nurse was not what I really wanted to do. It takes too long; the schooling alone is longer than four years. I was not willing to spend more than four years in school. Instead I decided that I wanted to do something that is in the same field as a doctor or nurse. Yet, something that takes less time in school to get a degree for. In addition, I wanted it to be something that I could do to help doctors, nurses, and patients. That is when I found out that Medical Coding and Billing is what I wanted to do.
All my life I have known that I wanted to be involved in the medical field. At first, I wanted to be a Physical Therapist. The only problem was, I wasn’t excited about my possible future career. Then, I got offered a job doing in home care. I then knew I wanted to widened
Ever since I was in middle school I dreamed of working in the medical field. I realized nursing was the profession for me when my grandfather became terribly sick with lung cancer during my freshman year of high school. It puzzled me that one of the healthiest and most physically active people I knew could be afflicted by such a damaging disease. After watching my grandfather’s suffering and the pain my entire family felt from his death, I knew I wanted to go into a field to help others that are facing the same challenges. This is when I discovered all of the opportunities that a career in nursing could offer me.
Eventually one day I might decide to change my mind about working in the cosmetology field but for now I will stick with my main career goal. I lost a lot of interest over the weeks working on my senior project.
Both my current job and are dream jobs are in the medical field they are very similar yet different. For example, my job now is a certified nursing assistant and my dream job is to become a registered nurse. Both jobs consist of taking guardianship of people providing hands-on work, comfort care, and compassion. My dream is to further my career from a nurse assistant and become a nurse that does more for people in the world.
Pearson (2013) clarifies “clinical decision making is essential to every aspect of care delivered to a patient” (p. 214). It is the ability to blend information and make decisions that will later be implemented in the situation. Evidence-based decision making involves choosing from a variety of possibilities and combining the knowledge through research and the scientific evaluation of one’s practice. The purpose of this paper is to analyze my decision of administering ativan by advocating for the patient and anticipating her change prior to confirming signs; which provided a therapeutic response.
A career in the medical field is always evolving, and always needing more hands. I knew from a young age that helping people is what I was meant to do, and from then on out every step I took was the way to a successful career in nursing. It is a profession that allows you to see people at their worst, all while helping them become their best. The most important task for nursing students is to create a clear pathway for our education, and to be sure to follow that plan accordingly. When choosing this career, I had to access my own strengths and weaknesses and really establish clear goals for myself and evaluate if I had what it takes to be a part of this diverse and skilled profession. I also decided not only not only do I need to set professional goals for this career, personal goals are important as well.
In high school, I was among those students who always indicated that I will be going college. However, unlike most people I seem to meet these days I did not know that I wanted to be a doctor. When it was time to head off to college, I was still unsure of what I wanted to pursue. As most college freshmen, I did not know what major best suits my personality. I desired a career that would define who I am and a career that is self-gratifying. However, the path that I should follow was unclear to me. Because of my uncertainty I failed to see that my parents dream became my reality. As I began my college experience as a nursing student, I felt somewhat out of place. I realized that my reason for majoring in nursing was my parents' influence on me. They wanted me to believe that nursing is right for me. I always knew I wanted to go into the medical field, but I felt that I needed to know how to choose a medical specialty that I feel is right for me. My first step was to change my major. I chose to change my major to biology. My love for science led me to this decision. I began to explore the opportunities open to biology students.
It’s been my desire, longing for a nursing career since I was in my primary and secondary school. At the age of 12, I began to look after children and baby-sitting then, from there, I gained the understanding of how to deal with children. Nursing is one of the highly demanding careers that bring new challenges every day and it comes with various rewards and a real sense of job satisfaction. I chose nursing because it is a profession where you never really finish learning. It has been my dream job since my tender age. Seeing nurses visiting my school treating students, immunisation, teaching us about health and sexual health issues, this encouraged me. My goal and desire at that age have been to help people within the Health sector. That is how; I decided to go to college where I am currently doing my Access to Higher Education Diploma (Science), which involves Biology and Chemistry. I chose this pathway because I want to gain the relevant skills and knowledge of my career to be. As someone who wants to become a nurse, I found biology as an important role in the delivery of client car...
Nursing is a promising career that offers many rewards to caring individuals. It is more than just a job that one attends day to day. Nursing is a career that kind people get in to because they are passionate about life and everything is has to offer. They care for people they have never met before in such a way that makes the patient feel comfortable and able to relax. In a way that makes it possible for the patient to recover from whatever they have encountered. If I am going to spend valuable time and money on education, I want to a job that I absolutely love. I want to have the satisfaction of knowing that my job is safe even when times are rough. Interviewing Jennifer H, a Registered Nurse at a local Banner facility really helped me get insight on what the position has to offer. I have encountered many people who are not passionate about their job and just show up for a paycheck; choosing a job in the medical field provides people with the same check, but also offers job security, advancement opportunities and numerous benefits for the employee and their famil...
Change has been a big part of my career for the past five years. Initially, I changed my work from a hospital setting to an office setting to accommodate my inability to perform fully as an RN. Next, I had to leave my position completely, due to my surgeries and the year recovery period. However, because of my inability to work right now, I have decided to change my nursing pathway for now. Fortunately, being a nurse gives you a multitude of opportunities, therefore, I have other opportunity to work from home e.g., telehealth, medical transcription, case management (Childers, n.d.), as well as a medical coder, which I have been offered to do. They may not be the best jobs for a nurse, but, it gives me the opportunity to continue
I decided to take Guidance 30 because I wanted to make sure that nursing is the right major for me. I have a lot of hobbies, but I don’t want to do them as a job for the rest of my life. I knew that I want to work in a job that will allow me to communicate with other people and also help them. Since there were many jobs that allow a person to help others, I wanted to take this class to learn more about myself and my skills that I never considered as skills.
